  • This is an update to 'Swede' the busker. He's very poorly at the moment and on the 4th February 2010 we will be holding a Charity Jam night in his honour to help him through this difficult time.   • Phil, often found drinking around the various town centre pubs. He'll swear blind he's had a good few weeks of betting (and share a few tips) but still look as haggard as ever. Nice guy though.

  • The busker with the hat, that "plays" guitar and sings in the subway and on the bridge is called "Swede". He's been doing it for years, (same song mostly).

  • The girl who sits on the bridge outside BK wearing da stripey hat. Friend of spleeny but appears to own shoes!

  • Black Jack!I dunno if he`s 1 of the ppl you`ve seen but I know that at every morning around 7:30 he walks from springfield into the town centre and looks into bins for some food.I`ve seen him once and he was literally black as coal.

  • Anyone know David Stanley (also known as David Spurgeon)? From Melbourne. He is a real character, a bit of a freak-nutter (like puffer), and is as gay as gay can be. Yes folks, if you know him and your male, backs to the wall...!!!
  • SPLEENY, spleeny is the man! if you see him busking (you'll recognise him with a blonde beard and long hair and no shoes) give him money, the guy is cool as a cryogenically frozen icicle!

  • I have to say actually, Chelmsfords buskers can actually sing. Go to southend and the contrast is amazing.
  • Laughing John is one of the most distinctive characters around, Chelmsford would not be the same without him.

  • well there used to be some down moulsham street subway since thats been taken out the man who stands outside marks and sparkes selling the big issue!
  • There used to be a blonde haired woman with a great voice who busked in the Moulsham Street subway, haven't seen her for a while. Maybe someone offered her a well deserved record contract.

  • Mark Shillaker (ex- Mouthful of Ashtrays now based more in Colchester) Rhiannon (the blonde lady in the subway) and Richard The Didge (Its a way of life man, its the gipsy caravan of the 2oth century)
  • The mad Ginger brothers from Brook end, who ride pushbikes with trailers, wearing crash helmets making motorbike noises. One of them dresses as an American footballer and runs through the town going whooooooooshar!! whoooooooooshar!!. What a nutter!
  • The Moulsham Street Underpass sometimes has this dude who plays guitar... drop him a few quid, he's a good guy. Watch out for the crazy hobos outside the bridge at the ramps... nasty buggers...

  • Da guy opposite music box has a cute dog but can't play 4 his life. Has a nervy fit if you watch him 4 2 long. Lol

  • The bloke who runs about in bright yellow ice hockey gear is called PUFFER and he has also got a brother who rides about on his push bike with a motorbike helmet on.
  • del (the guy with the beard, looks like dj Product with a hangover) in the moulsham street subway, complete tosh but worth a penny.

  • In the subway so stinky old sod plays the guitar and there is that fat tramp near the poly or the station, he changes.

  • can i just say spleeny rocks and the guy from astral circus with the digery doo that busks in the subway at the bottom of moulsham street! Keep it up guys, it's nice to be reminded that some people in chelmsford have talent (no offence to other buskers intended)!
  • UNDER THE TUNNEL APPROACHING MOULSHAM STREET- ALWAYS GET LOADS OF BUSKERS THERE.
  • theres a few cool ones.... theres a bob dylan guy and a fleetwood mac girl that hang around in the walk way under the road from the centre to mousham street.. and some mexican guys.. what else do u need?

  • Local wierdos include the man who always wears flaurescant yellow ice hockey kit, complete with crash helemt and pads and man who wanders around with a cat on his shoulders
  • Yay! Spleeny! Give him all your money at once. And that guy that stands in t he subway that always seems to be singing a different song to what he is playing on his guitar. Which, although sounding hideous, provides a curious form of entertainment
  • There's a very good trombone player (!) usually just across from McDonald's during the week, not bad at all.
  • all the members of -ISM play at the army and navy, they count.
  • Weird old tramp who hangs around the city centre having arguements with thin air.
  • There's a really cool guy who plays the guitar in the subway leading up to Moulsham Street. There's also another guy who sits outside the shop, Music Box, with a really cute dog!
  • the bloke whos always juggling down moulsham street who cant juggle longer then 2 secs nice effort
  • There is always buskers under the walkway between the town centre and Moulsham Street and a few entertainers outside Macdonalds but that about it
  • The bloke with the pan pipes is something never to be missed on a wet day in the High Street.
  • Say no more about the new king of busking- "spleeny"! few know how he got this name- fewer know exactly wot goes through his head as he zig zags down roads with no shoes; carrying a guitar. dedicates his life to being a tramp although he actually owns a house, he is the king. even found his way to reading festival campsite- U CANNOT ESCAPE SPLEENY!
  • Spare a thought for Barney - the old bloke in a hat in Moulsham St subway - he's been playing Simon and Garfunkels "The Boxer for at least 70 years straight.
  • Jonty says : The blonde busker in the Moulsham Street subway is Rhianon. She used to be a backing singer for another Chelmsfordian, Suzi Quatro. And yes, she is good
  • The subway connection between the high street and moulsham street is the busker's mecca in Chelmsford. In particular there is a blonde woman who has a great voice and can actually play the guitar (hint, hint to other buskers!!)

  • The underpass by Mulsham Street has some really good buskers, they've haven't change for years and never seem to age.
  • Unfortunate as it is the "word on the street" is that Laughing John has passed on. I'm sure many of us will miss the man that was never sober.
  • THIS REALLY COOL LADY WITH BLONDE HAIR WHO PLAYS THE GITUAR SHE IS NORMALLY UNDER THE THING U HAVE TO WALK UNDER TO GET TO MOULSHUM STREET AND SHE IS REALLY GOOD SOME BODY GIVE HER A RECORD DEAL !!!

  • I had jeard that the infamous 'Laughing John ' used to one of Chelmsford City FC's greatest stars - with a super future a head of him- but then everything went wrong

  • Laughing John, who is known by just about everyone who ever set foot in Chelmsford... Never without a bottle of white lightening, a smile and a laugh. Sample dialoge - Someone says "it's Lauging John". He says "We Are All Laughing John's". This actually happened.
