Live Music Venues
- THe fleece, duke street by the station. Great for live bands on thursday, friday and weekends.
- V Festival
- the box. sometimes dukes have live acts and that.
- The Bassment in Chelmsford
- Escape to london if you want to have a very good time, its only 30 minutes away..... otherwise give the basement a go. Failing that bring back the army and navy.
- the bay! we need more punk in chelmsford!
- The Y and theBox
- Marconi club- adolecent rock
Bay Hourse Tavern- slighlty more mature adolecent rock
The hot house- people with pretentions to jazz [ [¬_¬]{..............) ]
quite a few places really.........
- Alter States is promoting Live Americana and Alt.Country at The Bassment club in Chelmsford each month. Check www.alterstates.com or www.thebassmentclub.com for listings. There should be at least TWO live events featuring the cream of US and UK Americana talent. 2006 roster includes Jess Klein, Gina Vilalobos and The Deadstring Brothers to mention a few. Keep music Live by supporting it.
- The Y
- The Box, The Y
- Army & navy RIP
- The Bassment Club is the ONLY cool Live music venue in Chelmsford. Covers anything from Blues, Country and Indie through to Jazz. see www.thebassmentclub.com or www.bitterscene.co.uk
- Chelmsford YMCA - Crossbar Club - Live Bands every 2nd Friday in the month
No smoking, drinking or sad old people. Just good music in a great venue.
- The Y
- Dream have done and still do loadsa roadshows in the middle of chelmsford outside Woolworths. They are sometimes kinda small and quiet a few bands play there the usual lot a band called Boysterous done a few... interesting is all i can say. Also carly hillman (ex eastenders) played there but mostly local ones.
- The Y now has bands 4th Friday of the month - 3/4 bands each time, variety of genre. Other weeks are djs, party nights, specials still only £3,50 to come in, still under 18's. Check us out...Dec 2004
- Y sucked and i think it closed. Army and Navy also closed a fair while ago.
The only real place to go and see good bands is at The Box, Near riverside and the post office. it's also just about a 2 minute walk from the Y. There is also the Cave but that only have live bands once a week, and it isnt a nice place.
- ipswich attracts the gd ppl and london
- the whits hart is wer all the not quiet famous bands play like barefoot and lighting lands its really gd when they have the gold feast cause everyone no matter how old can get in for free and even tho u might not know the band there always really gd and have fab songs.
- Army and Navy is under new management and no longer provides rock music. Friday night is RnB night however with usually resident DJ
- Music venues are very few and far between. There's a few live jam nights dotted about, at The Basement and a few pubs. The Bay horse were doing something once a month! Not much though, there's a new place under the arches just opposite the train station that has live bands during the week. It was hailed as the new army and navy, now that's a chain pub, but still no live music at the weekends! Sort it out people!!!
- The Cave (down th by the train station) looks like its gona b gd 1ce it gets goin, all ready had a couple of under 18 band nites, (with non-alcholic bar) nd theres all the drum nd base nd stuff thats 4 ova 18's.
- The box up near the postoffice is ok and the cave should provide live music soon
- Since the closure of the Army and Navy, its got to be the hermit in brentwood, the chinnerys in southend, the square in harlow, or the arts centre in colchester!
- chelmsofrd v festival and got all good bands playin at marconi especially depict!
- dunno just go down the y k?!
- Just outsude Chelmsford, on the way to Braintree, is Great Leighs... The best pub there is the oldest pub in England, which has LIVE MUSIC every weekend (See our website ; www.pickapub.co.uk/stannescastle.htm ) Plus on the first Tuesday of every month we have an acoustic Open Mic' Night
- Unfortunately the Army and Navy has now been taken over by a generic pub chain, which means no more good live music. I thinks it's an absolute disgrace. To think that bands such as Oasis played there (OK maybe a bad example - I don't like Oasis either).
- The Marconi Club for the alternative crowd, now that the A&N has gone
- the y hylands park for v thats bout it
- Saddest fact ever - The Army & Navy has now been taken over and is another 'Kareoke / mainstream/ football on big screen' type place.Absolute disaster. The only place where decent bands ( Seafood, Three Colours Red)played occasionally. There are enough of these places in the town centre if people want them . Lots of people are very annoyed about this, as it was one of the few places you could visit and you didnt feel like you were in among 'typical' Essex people ( Dukes etc).
- the "y" is spose the only good place to hear music if ur a greebo
- army and navy every saturday night - live music
any local bands interested in playing give andy a call 01245 354155
- None left now the Army and Navy has been shut down!!!!!
- There aren't any music venues in Chelmsford. the Y Club is either shut or sh*te it depends and nobody wants to play at the Army and Navy anymore because they're all fed up with Shawn ripping them off over their fees.
- Army and Navy! Otherwise You have to go to London!
- Live.... The Army& Navy, Hermitage.
- The Army and Gayvy. Ha!
- Army and Navy - decent bands, £1 shots, what more could you ask for
- the y.........well maybe it used to be, but the q's have wrecked it! all hail central - ex. the cold weather. - other than that the army and navy is always a good bet....... - music wise.
- Chelmsford Spectacula for you teeny boppers
- wot, hylands have the V concerts i suppose, xplain more.
- the army and navy, yay!beware tho its a gay pub...
- the army and navy's wicked, cool music, cool people. good times, just have to avoid certain days
- the subawys of chelmsford, such talent and music expertise
- The Y, nr the Met. police station was my indie haven. The Army and Navy, on the Baddow roundabout, is also good for live music (unless it's changed). No one tells me anything!!!
- dunno....army and navy??
- Well...Has to be the army and Navy. Even then though, they are usually just local bands. THe L.A doors play there regularly and they kick arse. However, Chelmsford is the county town of Essex and there is no big venue for big bands to play in!!! What is going on???
- I have to argue that the Y is crap and only good if you are fourteen and want to pull older blokes who are far too desperate for their own good
- The only decent music venue left now is the army and navy well know for having really good bands there i have been to several gigs there b4 which ahve all been good it could do with being bigger though
- army and navy i love it down there my kind of people
- the y
- Club Skint no longer operates at the Y. No live bands now, but the Y Club on Friday nights is still a great place to be.
- On the live music front Chelmsford is mediocre. The Army and Navy usually have up and coming rock/ metal bands, I remember seeing Oasis here many years ago (as a support band!) before they turned shite and Reef have been known to play here on occasion. Recent bands have been Breed 77, Wilt, earthtone9, Queen Adreena.
- The Army and Navy is great for live music.
- The 'y' club is the paradise,Dodgy played there last year!
- WELL I HAVE TO SAY IT AGAIN THE PLACE TO BE IS THE Y FOR MY KINDA MUSIC !!
OH AND EVERY SO OFTEN ZEUS GETS SOME TEENIE BOPPER BAND IN FOR ALL THE LITTLE TRENDIES OF CHELMSFORD
- Army & Navy by the fly over for all bands which come touring locally, One Minute Silence, Breed 77, have recently played there!
- CHICAGOS- WEDNESDAY.THE CORNIER THE BETTER!!
- The Y is full of kids on Friday night for Club Skint, but a great place to see good bands or for the occaisonal cool club night, as it is nice and cosy. Well a bit TOO cosy to be honest. And they have a very loud PA.
- The Bassment has a jam night every Tuesday. The Blue Lion in Great Baddow (about 1 mile out of town) has a good jam night every thursday.
- The Y club is known as the Attic and is found above the Chelmsford YMCA. LOUD!!!!!!
