Pubs in Chelmsford, Essex*
The place to go for a lazy afternoon, pub quiz or last call
You can tell us more about Chelmsford.
Pubs
- If you want home made fresh food that's yummy, go to The Hare in Roxwell. The decor could do with being re-done but I've not found a pub that does better food and the prices are really reasonable too.
- the peg, the bay!
- basement club. Bring back the army and navy.
- the Kings arms down broomfeild road is a good one or the william and brasery which is the first pub you come to on the corner as you come into hatfield peveral from the boughrum way
- the bay! we love the wednesday quizz night, hey quizz man who works in the works!
- the bay and the railway trvern a great little pub for drink and sandwiches say hi to all the lecturers that have a drink in there on a friday lunchtime!
- there are tons!
- loads!
- The Ship. A 'real' boozer. Never too quiet or busy. Nice ambience. Good bar staff. Have nice touches like flowers on each table on Mothers Day, or cheese and biscuits on the bar on a Sunday.
- The Fleece, a good night out here. Cheap drinks too!
- lloyds is the best!
- i say the bay horse the bay horse!
- Check out "the" bar opposite the odeon for a vibey mentally older crowd. Great music from funky house - to latin - breaks - soul - US garage.
Avoid Edwards, Lloyds, Yates (unless you are a typical super boring drunken essex girl, and a typical drunken boring essex lad just after a typical boring druken essex girl or vice versa)
- bay horse
- have you tried the Queen B yet, haven't been there since it changed from a tom cobleigh but they now have a two for one menu so you only pay for one meal and it was great, good sized portions and they cater for children too, won't be going back to the chelmer tavern now i've found the Queen B - why is it he Queen B anyway?
- Lloyds bar brilliant, good food and cheap drinks!!
Toad on the River......OVERPRICED!!!
- one down moulsham street or one down the slipped disc road!
- Other than D-place (more of a bar with a relaxed dresscode) I go to The Bay Horse as it's the only surviving pub in Chelmsford that plays the kind of music I like, I also go to the Wheatsheaf if I want to play pool.
- Best pub for real beer - check out real beer guys - is the Queens Head. Full of old people, but the best beer in Essex.
- Just check out the ones on Moulsham street
- some up moulsham street
- nnone
- army and navy been taken over no more rock and gay nights!!!!!! karoke, disco, live music, late licence, cheap food, quiz night, pool table, darts big screen
- THE bar to get older guys to buy you champers all night
- There was the Prince of Orange - it was a real traditional Irish pub - they shut it and sanitised it into and "Irish theme Pub" and now no-one bothers going in. The story on the board in the front is a load of old cobblers too!
- UB opposite megazone, very fresh faced, sometimes spotty!! All college students! There and the Anchor also on Moulsham St! Army and Navy has gotta be best, especially gay nights sun and weds!
- Army and Navy. it's the only decent one...
- Edwards Bar might be mistaken for a gay pub on a Sunday night which has seen a big gay contingent in recent months. The door policy has become very unwelcoming recently though, so they may just end up with no customers at all. Try Toad instead.
- UB is no distance from megazone, and most of the crowd from there would probably get served!
- melborne the red beret
- edwards, lloyds. yates. main street, the same bar all decotrated in white walls all playing the normal commercial chart music, yates has a dj thats been playing the same now 37 album for the last two years (i am not making this up)
- Pub wise, Wheatsheaf/Inn on The Green, Writtle, seeing it is my REAL home. I DO miss me IPA and locals!
- The Globe for cheapness, everywhere else if you don't look 25.
- When i was a lad judge tindalls was the place to go, only coz it served any1. However, now edwards, lloyds and yates's are definatly da best places to be.
- anchor, guaranteed silence, great for a quiet nite. bay horse, guaranteed atmosphere and dodgy geezers. used to go to the white horse behind the station before we realised it's an old man's pub.
- the globe is cheap with a nice atmosphere, but no music unfortunately. the DJ at Yates'sis hilarious but it gets really busy in their. edward's is Ok but a few too many scary groups of blokes not talking to each other...
- nearly all of them.......ermmm....moulsham street?......
- Yates is great for alcohol, i wouldnt eat there though!!! Of course the Globe is cheap and excellent value, but there is no music and it takes an hour to get served! Try the new Wetherspoons in town instead!
- The Laughing Mare, Galleywood Road. Great food, fast service.
- Riverside Inn,Bay Horse,Judge Tindals Tavern.
- The Duke Of Wellington in Hatfield Peverel only bout 8 miles away from town.
- THE ALMA 37 Arbour Lane, Chelmsford no longer has Pool Tables. It serves the best food in town now!
- The bay horse is one of the most hospitible pubs in chelmsford, if you are tired of the same old post yuppie dives like yates & edwards, give it a go and you will find that it doesn't matter who you are, you will be welcomed!
- YATES', EDWARDS, BROADWALK AND THE GLOBE- THE FIRST THREE AND GOOD FOR ATMOSPHERE AND THE LATER IS ONLY GOOD FOR A CHEAP MASH UP!!!
- The Green Man in Highwood, (aka club casa mia!!!!) is a complete shite hole!!! Then again if your name's Ghosty, Porky or Graham you'll probably fit right in! Also, beware of the dodgy hippy!!
- i cant remember what it was called on mousham street.. that was good..
- The Bay has gone down hill a bit....The globe is good for deals on good food!! But, It has to be the Army and Navy!!
- dont go to the black horse accordin to them u can get a driven licence any where????
- Gay night's wed & Sun at the Army and Navy
- The black bull (very good), the Ship (haven't been for years), the rat and parrot (good) and the white horse (haven't been for years but was good in it's day).
- The Alma has changed beyond recognition since the previous review. Totally redecorated, interesting pub with a superb restaurant. More expensive than usual pub grub but this is anything but usual and well worth it.
- so may, Edwards, Yates and finches are the best. less likely to allow underage people in here. good music is always played and good time is guaranteed.
- The Odds up Springfield Road is one of the beeter pubs in C'ford,
not much competition really! If you want to get on the pool table, you'll
need to beat the old fart whose always nearby.
The Hot House is brilliant for unusual beers. Great atmos. also.
- The Bay horse down Moulsham street is the only place I drink really. It has an alternative crowd, no 'fresh-faced' youths and only townies on weekend nights. Lovely jukebox and delicious Kronenburg.
- Green Man - Howe street (Over near Gt Waltham - broomfield way) the oldest pub in Essex
- Best pub has to be The Ship, in the heart of Chelmsford's west end. Good jukebox and beer, great food. The Globe is also a good places for us "westies"
- the star army and navy sunday nights
- The Globe is a cool pub to go to though it usually takes about 15 minutes to get served because its always busy. Its a J D Weatherspoons Pub so cheap drinks all year round.Yates is Ok and a new pub/bar/restaurant with a late license called Edwards has just opened up which is a good place to go to aswell
- the crown
- If you want a non-trendy pub you'll be hard pushed to find one. The Army and Navy is your best bet for an 'alternative' atmosphere, The Bay Horse and The Wig and Mirkin used to be OK, but have gradually been overtaken by 'townies'. The Rat & Parrot is OK early evening but I tend to drink in the Wheatsheaf as it is generally a quieter pub (except when there is a big sports event on TV then you can't squeeze in the door) it's also the only Chelmsford pub with pool tables. If you like your vodka then go to the Hot House they have many flavours!!
- moulsham street is too busy and the best pubs have closed down but you can go to the wig for drugs the Army & Navy for gigs, the globe for cheepness the critters for the fresh faced crowd but the best left is the queens head and if you don't like then you've never been
- both the best pubs on C'ford closed down but i can say the orange tree is crap the globe is good for those fresh faced people and the Queens head is the only good one left
- The Red Lion on New London Rd is undoubtably the best place to start any evening. You can always rely on getting a decent pint and, if you're lucky, conversation with the famous Laughing John. There's also a superb jukebox and where else can you get pepperoni at about 10pm without moving from your seat? Say hi to the darts players on a Fri or Sat night and but them a pint or three.
- I prefere rock music and tend to stick to the local pubs out of the town center, however, if you're into dance you can take your pick. The best rockish pub around is The Army and Navy, it is also a gay pub on a wednessday night I believe.
- NEVER drink in the Original Plough,I was not served because I WAS WEARING WORK BOOTS! WHAT A CRIME!
- The globe is cheep, the ship is nice, the Rat and Parrot is banging, and the Old Judge Tindal Tavern is.. well GAY
- Loads of Brilliant pubs, especially down Molshom Street
- Have a drink in The Black Bull. In the summer Mike does great Barbies and in the winter there is a real log fire! AAHH!
- The Alma, Arbour Lane, Chelmsford Tel: 01245 256783 A friendly Pub. Good cheap bar food available lunchtime. All Sky Sports shown - two pool tables -Live music - Anyone coming in and mentioning this article will get a free pint!!!!
- Carpenters Arms,Gt Baddow,Strippers Sunday 17th January AND EVERY FOLLOWING SUNDAY-BE THERE!!!
- The Red Lion in New London Road is nice for a quiet drink. Moulsham Street is the place to go for busy pubs, although the Bay Horse has now been turned into a horrible yuppee pub...
- Prince of Orange has now been closed down and re-opened as some Irish theme pub. O'Connor's I think. Expensive and no atmospher.
- The Plough (duke St opposite the bus station) and the wig&mirkin (moulsham street - used to be the Kings Arms) are the only two pubs I've found that are both lively and fun, but not full of pre-pubescent Capri-driving boys and girls who eat a lot of philadelphia (lovely!)
- Prince of Orange closed to be replaced by a identiket fake Irish pub lacking in any atmosphere whatsoever. Prince of Orange RIP. Wig and Mirkin in Moulsham street has taken over from the Bay Horse as the slightly older yoof pub.
