Pubs
- My husband and I took over the Red Lion just over 5 years ago. We DO NOT recycle leftover!!! It's a lovely old, friendly pub serving great real ales (we are in the CAMRA Good Beer Guide and Cask Marque accredited)
Come in and try for yourselves.
- No no, the Red Lion is NOT good place to eat..I worked in the kitchen and all the food is reheated from frozen in the microwave. The kitchen is dirty and if you leave condiments (eg, mustard, ketchup) on your plate, it is recyled and scraped back into the mustard/ketchup bowl to be placed on the table of the next unfortunate customer. If you've already eaten there, i sincerely hope you enjoyed your food poisoning!
- the black boy, the red lion and the crown
- Wheatcheaf, kings head-if you can fit in it
- Again The Crown is a great meeting place on a Friday night, as there is a disco it is usually packed but there is still room for the vodka and the beer to flow.
The regulars will now what I mean. Oh and the bar staff are very nice looking, particularly a girl called ..............
- Did you know the Kings Head is also known as 'The Hole in The Wall'? Not because its set back from the road. Apparently in 17th/18th century, the Crown (100 yards away) was used as the courthouse at quarterly assizes, and the cellar of the KH as gaol. A tunnel connected the two, so convicted felons were marched staight into the lockup. The tunnel was at some time bricked up, leaving a large hole in the cellar wall. Nice story, but does anyone know if its true?
- The Red Lion was always pretty nice...
- Some of these places have pool tables which I suppose is a bit of a plus. And lets not forget the Social Club, call me old fashioned but I can't resist a bar with plastic 'leather' seats and formica tables.
- Ha HA ha oh dear. There's 8 of them, I've got drunk in all of them regularly and I hate them and their clientle. apart from that the Crown does food.
