I was born in Chinnor in the sixties and we lived in a caravan in a place called Stepping Hill Field. We only lived there a short while before we got a house in the village itself. I'd love to hear from anyone else who lived in or remembers the caravan site, especially from the years 1965 to 1969. I live in Plymouth now and still miss Chinnor like mad. They also remember Ken and Jenny Thorne very well - we all remained friends for years. We lived in Greenwood Avenue next door to Mick and Beth Seretny if that rings any bells? Colin - my parents were June and Tony Robinson. Other people we knew were Mick and Glenice Barry a nd Jackie Laurie and her husband. My parents also used to drink in the Crown. My parents remember it exactly the same way - we were poor but we lived in a lovely part of the world. Having gotten very frustrated trying to find out why BT have set the local Chinnor exchange to have a trigger level of 450, where as other exchanges like PENN have been broadband enabled at only 200 registrations, I decided to byte the bullet and invest in a Satellite link instead. I don�t believe that the Chinnor exchange will ever get to the required trigger level, as the number of lines it han dles is no more 3000, and by my estimates probably only one in six connected lines is likely to require or use broadband.. I live near to the Red Lion Pub and have setup my satellite system such that it can be expanded by way of cheap wireless lan, anyone that is interested in joining my lan, and thus benefiting from the advantages of a Boradband connection please drop me a line. I am still interested in pushing to get our local exchanged enabled, so sharing info eta could benefit all. David ... more >> Reply
