CLEOBURY MORTIMER 1901 by Alex Titley (Member 10259899) on 1-Apr-2011
Good afternoon

I am lookinf for information on my Great Grand dad George Titley, who died in June of 1901 in Cleobury. An inquest was held after his death, does any one know where I might find out details of this inquest, also which hospital or institution was in cleobury back in 1901.

many thanks

Trying find the whereabouts or any information on Pat (nee) Evans. Pat's family home was in Albert St. Kidderminster, Worcestershire - she lived there during the late 1950's and early 1960's.
Pat was the only child of Bill and Mary (nee Gwilliam). She was a ladies hairdresser by occupation and during early 1960's worked in an upstairs Salon at the junction of Blackwell and Coventry St's, in Kidde... more >>

Peter Blount - clockmaker by Cyril D. Blount (Member 10131495) on 3-Sep-2004
Cleobury Mortimer had a clockmaker in the 18th Century by the name of Peter Blount (1688-1765) He was my 5xggf. He used to look after the clock in the Church. His son was a papermaker - Charles Blount (c1715-c1777). I decided to write this message when I saw the reference to Paper Mill Cottages in one of the replies. Does anyone know anything about them? Any advertising leaflets for the cloc... more >>

Further to my message about Peter Blount the clockmaker (1688-1865) of Cleobury Mortimer - here is another question:

Do you know where the Trustees Minute Books are for the Lacon Child School when it was still a Charity School in the 18th Century? Peter took apprentices from the School and I would like to see the records.

Does anyone from Kinlet have any information about the Baxter family? My Baxter ancestors left the Kinlet area in the late 19th century, but there were still relatives living there as of the 1901 census...

My mother remembers being taken to visit a (strawberry ?) farm in Cleobury Mortimer as a child - it was owned by a family named Whatmore, and she had the impression that they were Baxter rela... more >>

Hi.
I am doing some research on cleobury, does anyone
know where the victorian rubbish dump is or was,
ie where did the good people of cleobury dump their rubbish.

  • Re: Rubbish Dump by John Brewer (Member 10046071) on 20-Feb-2003
I was born in Cleobury in 1951 and lived there until 1970, and have returned there often to visit family. I recall one dump, although whether it goes back to Victorian times I do not know. It is up the lane to Barnsland from the Tenbury Road, on the left about a two-thirds of the way up, just inside the field. Its indentations can still be seen. Would not parish records help? Good luck

Hello Brian. What a pleasant surprise. I was in Cleobury for a two week holiday in early July and met up with Melvyn Romeo and Trevor Green, and we reminisced about the old days with Michael Conniff. I moved from Queen's University Belfast to the University of Aberdeen in 2004, but I married again to a Belfast girl (Grace Bray and I divorced in 1991) and the marital home remains in Belfast. Jacquie - are you Bob Lines daughter? I recall he was the biology teacher at Lacon Childe's School and that you used to live at the top of Ronhill bank. You may not recall me since I was at the secondary school for most of the period you describe (1963-1968), which is why I recall your father. I have to say I hated biology! The fact that I was headboy (1967-68) was entirely down to the fact that ... more >>

Hello Jackie Lines! You are a few years younger than me I think! Your father Bob Lines taught science I think, and was my form teacher in the first year at Lacon Childe. By that time, Batman Bill Smith was teaching biology. Your Dad was highgly amused because I had aspirations to become an actress!!
