- Nando's is terrible. The service falls way below standard, and if the waiters make a mistake with your order they will still charge you for the food/drink you didn't order and the manager will refuse refunds when requested. Disappointing. Avoid.
- sam's diner is the best place for food on a budget...battered sausage and chips-£1!!! bargain! dr chippy do the best chips in town for £1.10 a portion. for bagettes etc then danny's bakery is the best. its delicious and really well priced...£1.95 for chicken, bacon and mayo bagette but the same baguette in bouncers is £3.50. bakers oven do a brill chicken bake for £1.10. or gellers the butchers (nr.wilkinsons) do great pasties and sausage rolls from 55p which are obviously great because they are actually from a butchers!!!
- The bungalow cafe at Marks tey is known to offer up a good portion of grease on a plate at a reasonable price!
- Wig and pen make decent grub at decent prices.
- Sam's diner has cheap food and its really delicious. The diner has an american theme to it,with the posters of Marilyn Monroe on the walls and others. It has a tv. permanently set to music channels and they basically cook the food infront of you so you can see it all in the making. It also has a singing lobster on the wall its just fantastic. The problem is it is limited with sapace so no more than 24 customers can eat in.Don't let that put you off because its just more intimate that way. There are no little gary boys and girls yelling in the background and you can sit and eat whatever meal you have without being disturbed.
- maccy d is full of people on a saturday and roosters are gd 4 chicken same wiv KFC
- Old King cole on Ipswich Road is pretty nice now its under new management
- club sandwich, the towns beat baguette shop, to eat in and take away.
- cant you just go to mc donalds
- For Old fashioned and sweets from your childhood days please vist my stall at Trinity Square (Saturdays only). Or visit my web site at www.sweetsunlimted.com
- toto's down the lane towards the castle off the high street is nice and quaint and serves italian food.
- Nando's!!!! Great atmosphere, friendly staff and clean, non-stinky toilets! And the food's great if you like chicken.
- Istanbul Delight... Phwoar!!!!
- Ha Ha Bar and Hub do really great food!
- McDonalds, Pizza Hut, KFC, Burger King, blah blah
- pizza hut!
- Zentral buffet does great 'as much as you can eat' cineese food. Stuff yerself for about 13.00.
- Allen's on St.Botolphs Street do a wicked carvery baguette. Top stuff!
- Food on the Hill does lovely organic type (mostly vegi) dinner.
- Does better for the latter than the former
- nothing beats the noodle bar on north hill.
- Mcleans (bar-cafe) is good for food at a lunch time quite cheap as far as trendy bar-cafes go. I would recomedn the Ham and mushrum pasta bake
- Minories Cafe. Great garden, good wholefood.
- The Noodle bar on North Hill- new and funky and a bit different to Mc Donalds.
- One of many kebab shops, for a prime piece of grease.
- Food on the Hill (FOTH) - excellent ever changing menu, friendly, well priced - one of the best places to eat in Colchester by far.
- PIZZA HUT! yum yum (high street)
HUNGRY HORSE - famed for their "big plates" and therfore LOTS of food there is one of this chain on the outskirts of town
- The Siege House on East Street is a fantastic Italian restaurant - pricey (£100 for 2 inc drinks when we went) but so worth it, the staff pamper you from the moment you walk in the door and i had the best lamb ive ever tasted there
- sloppy joes is good for lunch time deals and stuff
- Welcome to Colchester......a town full of bars and snackeries.
If you want to see Roman stuff you'd be better off going to Bath.
- The Sphinx in Queen Street - kebabs, burgers etc. Very near to Hawaii 5 O cab rank so handy for the end of the night munchies. Food is lovely and the staff are friendly too.
- clowns on the high street it has alot to ofer
- go to ipswich
- go to ipswich
- Mayflower Chinese is on Magdalen St. not on Greenstead estate. There is a China Garden Chinese opposite "Charlie Lue" (Charles Lucas School)but it is on Bromley Rd. not Hawthorn Ave. Also Greenstead is mostly ok, most people who are afraid of it have never been there!
- Sad Sack cafe has closed down
- Plenty of chip shops/Indian/Chinese, 3 McDonaldses, take your pick!
- the gurkka place at the bottom of queen str, excellent all round , shame about the lovely end of town that it's in .
- the red onion the best food ever, taste's like somebody really cares about what there cooking.
- BURGUR KING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
- Colchester just has too many food outlets to list - it's pretty cosmopolitan when it comes to food. I have to mention Pete's Treats though. I'd starve without this shop. They sell dented tins, items past their sell-by date but otherwise perfectly edible. Highlight of my week is exploring that shop and you can honestly feed yourself for less than £5 a week! Great if you're a student, or in my case just plain tight. It should be listed as site of local importance at the very least.
- "Ask" is new on North Hill......nice decor and food, good outside eating area out back too, if it's ever warm enough. Don't sit by the front door on a cold night.
- Mayflower Chinese Takeaway up on Greenstead Estate (if you dare) does great big yummy portions. It's on Hawthorn Drive/Avenue or whatever it's called, opposite Charles Lucas school.
- Toto's Italian restaurant near the Castle does a very mean Carbonara. Also very good general range of Italian dishes.
- Happy Betty's Pizzas, on the Grinstead Estate. Probably the best pizzas I've ever had!
- Doorsteps sandwich bar near Hythe railway station.
- Hicks chip shop in the High Street.
- Montys Indian Restaurant does the Best Panir Shashlick this side of Bombay.
- The Forresters Arms behind the castle does an excellent range of meals and snacks.
- The best eating places that I found were the chinese down the bottom of East Hill, but *not* the Lucky Choice, which is nearby. They should call that one 'bad choice'. The Indian on the opposite side of the road isn't bad either.
- Great food at The Warehouse, off Southway. Expensive, but always getting good reviews in Sunday Papers.
- Good selection of theme and independent restaurants - best theme - Cafe Rouge best independent - Warehouse, Ruan Thai, North Hill Exchange (all a bit pricey but well worth it)
- I know it's out of town, but the Swan Inn at Chappel does the best fish related menu for miles, but don't ask for anything large unless you've not eaten for weeks- 'kin Huge portions!
- The George Hotel & The Exchange for a lovely meal, China Chef & Mr Wings for good Chinese & To-To's for cheap & tasy pasta
