- tudor rose. try there breakfast. massive and really cheap. they do lunches and tea as well and the value for money is unreal. better than wetherspoons etc.
- Not THAT cheap but still amazing value and choice (esp. for veggies) is to be found at Browns on Earl Street (I think).
- brian farrell butchers just took over from aubrey allen ,in jardine crescent coventry he does small cuts and pieces of meat as well as large .ideal for students etc and you can order online and get free delivery even to warwick uni

- the ocean is good its located at jubilee creasent
- This is a review for Rupali Restaurant in Tile Hill Coventry. A restaurant where the attitudes of the manager and the staff were as apalling as the food they served. We had ordered paneer tikka jalfrezi and had returned it as all the food was swimming in a pool of grease. When we tasted the new 'still as greasy' dish they brought, the only taste we could get was curry powder - a taste so bad we lost our appetite and ended up returning it to the kitchen without want of ordering any other replacement dish. When we were presented with the bill, the dish was included in the bill. When we spoke to the manager about this he insisted that we had to pay for the dish. With an arrogant and not so polite tone he made it quite clear that we should have tasted all the food as soon as it was brought to the table and sent it straight away. He pointed out that it was our fault for eating the food in the order we had eaten it in and even threatened that he would do something if we did not pay for the dish. Trying to convince him how ridiculous his arguments were becomming was like trying to sell ice to the eskimos! Please avoid this restaurant at all costs!

- The absolutely excellent Bombay Palace in Earlsdon and the Monsoon in Far Gosford Street (try a Korma - it's so sweet it should be a pudding).
- Superb range of food in Coventry. The Royal Bengal serves THE BEST Indian food around
- THE SUBWAY SANDWICH SHOP MMMMMMMMMMMMM
- i sorry but boots meal deal is blatently the best!!!!
- SUBWAY!!!!!!!!!SUBWAY!!!!!!!!SUBWAY!!!!!!!!
- Surprisingly, a good selection these days. Millsys in Earldson High Street was written up by the Guardian, as was Norton's in Bark Butts. Etna's is a good Italian, as is DaVinci's in Earlsdon. The Spire Cafe bar is a wonderful bar in an old spire and does a good selecton of snacks. There is a Greek restaurant on Corporation Street & the Dragon Phoenix Chinese Buffet is excellent. The Thai Dusit on London road is a decent Thai restaurant & for a good Chinese try the Fernleaf on Ball Hill. Good place for snacks and cheap fast food is the Ball Hill diner. There is also a Chinese restaurant in a pub in Earlsdon.
The Cosy Cottage in the city centre is good, as is Ostler's on Spon Street. Avoid Bastille's on Spon Street -- it is awful.
Tabascos in the Canal Basin does a neat selection of tasty Tapas and there is also a Tapas bar on Hertford Street in the City centre.
Curry is well represented in Coventry, with the award winning Rupali & numerous Sweet Centres and a Balti pub along Foleshill Road. There is also L'Imran experience in Spon End & L'Imran Balti hut in Wyken. Cheylesmore has a couple of Indian restaurants & there is a small "Balti Quarter" at the bottom of Far Gosford street, which includes the excellent "Monsoon".
Browns is popular and well regarded.
There is a Pizza Express in the city centre and the usual chain places.
I am baffled by the comments here about "no decent" restaurants! Coventry has a growing selection of eateries from pubs to well regarded restaurants & a number of curry houses listed in the good curry guide.
- FOR A REALLY GOOD INDIAN I GOT TO AKBARS NEARR THE BUTTS TECHNICAL COLLAGE BAD AT ALL THERE U CAN TELL THE CHICKEN DID NOT ONCE MEOW..AND THE GAFFER NIGEL'S SOUND IF U ARE A SPOTTY STUDENT U ALSO GET A DICOUNT OFF YOUR GRUB !!!...(TRY THE KNIGFISHER BEER OR COBRA NOT BAD AT ALL!!)
- Got to mention the Monsoon Balti House on Far Gosford Street. Have a Peshwari Nan - tons of coconut and honey.
Etna's in Hertford Street has always come up with the goods.
Lloyds Bar on the corner (opp. Council House) is cheap AND nice for food and drink in pleasant surroundings.
Student nosh (nice kebabs/burgers) at Express Diner, Gosford Street.
Food on the go - 'Loafers' do a nice bacon sandwich (opposite rail station).
- Gingers the best for sandwiches etc!!!!!!!! but sadly had a fire but
should be back up and running soon!
- tHE SANAGOEN in styvechale, the old mill in Baginton, Lloyds do a very nice chicken salad
- FAZIRA's the best Indian Take away - lovely Bhoona's
- Royal Bengal in Albany Road, White Lion in Brownshill Green
- Gringos Cafe and Bar does pizzas for really good prices. The Pagoda chinese restaurant above C&A in town is excellent as well as the Etna.
- Subway mmmmm good shit next to taxi rank
- Hoi Kee on the binley road nicechinese after a quiet night on the piss down the biggin. Express diner near the campbell. or efc near the burgess but food poisoining is possible!
- Coopers chippy up Gulson Road is the only place south of Sheffield where I'd consider buying fish and chips. There's also the chilli and chips in the Cov union bar, the Sunday lunches at the Hope and Anchor, Mr Nawaz's fine baltis, and the excellent chicken kebabs and half-pound cheeseburgers at Kasra up Far Gosford Street
- The best chippy in Coventry is the Chip Butty on the Ansty Road
- Sunday lunch at Browns is almost compulsory. Once I saw the guy who played Billy Boswell in 'Bread' there - reason enough to go.
- Bengal Delight, Bombay Joes, Corks Wine Bar, Cottage in Town, Coventry Kebab House, Da Vinci, Etna, Falstaffs, Farmhouse, K2, Mogul, Pagoda, Pizza Hut, Quo Vadis, Rupali, Shah Bagh, Styvechale, TGI Fridays, Tollgate Carving Room, Walsgrave Toby, Yates's.
- Cracking Indian restaurants...great entertainment at closing time, with pissed arseholes trying to avoid paying/ start fights etc.
- If you like Curry, then there are plenty of top balti houses - Nawaz in Gosford street is very good, but dont go in after 11 on a Friday or Saturday without either a Rugby Team or police escort. Rupali in Tile hIll is FANTASTIC - many awards won, but quite posh and expensive. Also, Bengal Delight in Holbrooks is very good but not really near any pubs etc, so a bit of a trek if part of a night out. Dont go to KFC in the Burges - Fried Rat is a speciality!
- Browns again
- Breakfast at The Cottage in Earlsdon
the Shag Bag curry take away
the istanbul kebab house
- Fishy Moores serve the best fish & chips in the world - only place to eat.
- So few decent restaurants it beggars belief, but plenty of Balti houses. Too many, in fact. Best chips at Fishy Moores, opposite the Bus Station. Best sarnies at The Upper Crust, beside Nat West in the Centre. Juicy Pear, decent down-to-earth bisto, not too pricey, in Cathedral Quarter. Istanbul Lokanta, behind the BT Tower in Earlsdon, best kebabs in the whole...er, of Coventry. Oscars Food Court in West Orchards: impressive choice, portions, prices and the food's good too. Best Balti House: the Moonlight Balti on Foleshill Road, by a country mile. Brown Bag Deli's good for sandwiches.
- Best shop is Alma Delicatessen, the best deli in the world (ever! etc. etc.)
- For good, cheap food try the pubs near the University.
- The Herbert Art Gallery has a new tea room open to all and offering discounts to students. Run by the charity Newpath Services. For details of our cafe or our trade bakery e-mail me p.bliss@ukonline.co.uk.
- The best chips are at Chick King on the Burges, especially at two o'clock in the morning. They do great mushrooms and curry sauce and when you're drunk the method of serving chips useing a plastic jug is most amusing. Coventry Kebab House by the Police station is also very good but watch out for that chilli sauce!
- Three Spires Chip Shop, Cheylesmore: the best ever! Mayflower House Chinese Take Away, Daventry Road also in Cheylesmore, worth the drive from anywhere in the city.
- Gate House Tavern in Hill Street (near Spon Street) is also a great spot for Real Ales and excellent pub grub during the day.
- Coventry lacks decent restaurants - but a very good curry house is Akbars in a street called 'The Butts' - this place does real good food !
- Bastilles in spon street, bar 153 warwick road, ostlers spon street, Corks all good places to eat offering a reasonable choice..also browns does a cracking selection!
- Plenty of pubs serve main meals or all day breakfats all at good prices. Take your pick, theres loads of them.
- The best place for lunch is Browns which has now moved from the lower precint to Jordan Well. Big plate of top grub for a fiver. The best Balti house in the city centre is the Red Rose and is open even when the clubs kick out.
- Craven Arms (Chinese in pub setting) Linos (v. expensive tho) Quo Vadis (ditto)
- the chicken kebab at the City Kebab House, opposite the Transport museum is something to be devoured after a night on the town
- Coventry is almost universally bad for eating out, with a few bright spots. Etna Ristorante, Hertford Street- good enough for a date. The Royal Bengal on Albany Road, best Indian in the central area, also the Rupali in Tile Hill Lane- even got a write-up in The Guardian's food page! Excellent pubs for food if you can travel a bit are The Rose and Castle at Ansty, and The Bear Inn at Berkswell.
