• Cov has got to be the most depressing place in all the land! In a word it's a shit hole. Every time I've driven through it I feel drained of life. It's like a 3rd world country! The roads are appalling; think the council must spend most it's money supporting asylum seekers, druggies, single mothers and translating road signs into Urdu. Hitler had the right idea about that place...BOMBING IT!!!!!
• I would just like to input my five pence into this silly list of worst things, it seems that most of the comments link to chav kids and immigrants etc, well let me tell you something, if people of coventry are being told they are sick too many times, they will lie down, much like the "chav" of coventry is doing, did you ever stop to think and look around or research into other areas of coventry, take for instance, london, my gd there are some god awful areas of london, but people still visit as it is such a wonderful place, so much more to see than deprived areas, take this view on coventry next time you visit. immigrants !!!! well if there werent so many lazy people on benefits for no reason then there would be no need for skilled workers from overseas, regardless of where they are from and there ethnic backgrounds, if there werent corner shops where would you dossers get your gas and electric late in the evening without travelling far and wide, where woud all the wineos get there white lightning,

• I really love how coventry gets all this abuse from places about being ruff and full of scum. I'm sure you all have these stories about coventry how you got beat up and what not, however by any chance did you come to coventry thinking that everyone one is scum , because ok yes ive only been living here 20 years but i have never been judged by anyone in coventry we respect each other as equals.So yes if you come to coventry thinking your better than us then you probably deserve to and probably will get to see the not so nice side of coventry
• I was born in cov and lived in stoke aldermoor until 18 when i left the town in 1975. I aint no hardnut but people often comment upon my rough approach. I have worked all over the world and in some of the most dangerous places such as nigeria. When i go to cov for a night out - all the radar comes up. After a nite out my mum had to get the ambulance after some scum wacked me and I had 6 stiches in my lower lip. To other people this is a bit disconcerting. To me and cov - just another nite out. In the cov and warwick a and e I just joined the queue.

Try e-mailing you say, done that, still no answer, well send a letter - tried that as well still no reply!!Well you can always go to the council house in person, OK- you got me! tried that , waited around all day in the queue, finally got to see a woman behind a glass partition, made my enquiry only to be told that the computers were down and to try again next week!!!

• I was interested in your requests for no racist comments......yet you allow racist comments about asylum seekers /refugees in your worst things section. The comments about these people are an indication of the ignorance of many Coventry people about these people, the majority of whom have a right to be in Coventry and deserve Coventry people`s friendship and tolerance.For the record , there are very few peole from Kosovo /Albania as most have returned to their country. The majority are Kurdish men seeking sanctuary from the Iraqi regime that murdered their fellow men/women in their thousands. They would love to return home but as yet fear things are still not safe for kurdish people. So come on Coventrians......give these people a break......perhaps if you made the effort to get to know some of them you would learn a thing or two about peace and reconcilliation- coventry has an international reputation for these believe it or not!
• Wyken Green! The gangs that have moved around there are dreadful! I am truely sick of seeing all of the kids destroying and burning down property it used to be a fairly nice place to live but that was years ago the kids have taken over and made it another rough shithole -very similar to wood end and bell green right next to it in my opinion they might aswel call the 3 the same area except i expect wyken green is soon to be the worst out of the 3.

• This city, this Coventry, is the dirtiest, most foul smelling, smoke belching post-industrial shithole in the entire Western World with the possible exception of Flint, Michigan or Gary Indiana, in the USA. I never seen more endless identical rows of decrepit, dung coloured terraced houses than I saw in the grotty neighbourhoods of northern Coventry. How can anyone in their right mind ever want to live in a hell hole like this. I can see why the people who are forced ro trudge through life in this depressing, soot-stained slum of a city are so miserable. Be warned! Coventry is not a city for tourists. Coventry is not a quaint example of what England's green and pleasant land has to offer. In fact you'd be lucky to see any greenery at all in this grey and bleak landscape. And if you're looking for White Trash, brother, you've found the right place. There are enough Caucasionally challanged people here to produce Jerry Springer shows from now until Doomsday! Coventry? One thought. Stay away!
• People whinging. I spent three very happy years in Cov in the 90s. I'm back in my North Wales small town now & love it. But I still miss the "buzz" of Cov & the bands, the mega choice of Indian grub & the sheer cosmopolitan feel of the place. It manages to have all that without becoming impersonal like London or Birmingham. Try living in Brum, then you'd have something to moan about. Or, come to that, a small village in North Wales where you're an "outsider" because you come from three miles away & might as well be a Martian.
• The people are really narrowminded and absolutely negative! Its amazing how much negativity surrounds them, and why drink so much if you can't handle it. Its so depressing watching women totally out of control and men totally nervous and always looking for fights. Please smoke a little and chill...The whole point is we are all here , so please do ur best to have a good time and smile more senserely next time u see someone smiling to u!!!!Oh, and it isn't dangerous when someone raises his glass and says...SALUT!!!

• Coventry really is one of the nastiest dirtiest tackiest cities I have ever visited. The centre was designed by morons and still inhabited by them from what I saw. Aviod it like the plague, not a single redeeming feature and even worse than Stoke on Trent (and that really is saying something)
• I left Coventry in the early 1970's but can stil remember what shite-assed peice of crap it was. The only thing that ever happened 6pm was some shit for brains yobbos would either throwing up on your shoes, shouting "give her one for me"--if you were with a girl, or beating some poor fucker who'd accidentally wondered into the most god foresaken place on the planet. The polis were scared shitless to even go down the city center at night so god help you if aliens dropped you anywhere within 2 miles of the city center. The ?Germans had the right idea in WW2 but then some idiot locals had some misguided pride in the place and rebuilt it look like a city in the Soviet Union

• The whole city! Mainly the people. They are insular, lack any sort of vision and don't want it to ever change. They claim to be hard done to, however how many top-of-the-range cars are driven around? but just look what steps out of those cars! its either wide-boys with low class women or drug dealer types. I pity any student coming to this city to study, its certainly the University of low-life. I am a 2nd generation Coventrian and not proud of it. It lives in past glories and the councillors approach to rejuvenate the place gets progressively worse. Having lived away for many years it totally depresses me to ever return. To those new to the city please note; it was never this bad, unfortunately nobody is endeavoring or could care less to return to it to some former glory.
• WestMidlands Police are totally useless...they don't care about crimes. Police station is closed at 1700, 1800. There are 6 officers on duty during non-office hour...in the city of coventry!!! Crime rate is extremely high People are not friendly at all, unless you are local. Stolen items are everywhere (bits and pieces) Not a place to live Bad for foreign students (watch out those students at Warwick or Coventry) local people don't like YOU!!! Very dangerous place Local people are aggressive and asshole!

• The nightlife is terrible and the people are unfriendly. The place is rife with violence,drugs and prostitution. There is NO live music scene and the clubs all suck.
• The entire city is grim, people are miserable, ring roads are ridiculously dangerous and the whole place is like the Twilight Zone. Do not attempt to go there you will be forever scarred like me.
• The Campbell used to be the best most welcoming pub in town now this is no longer true

• I must disagree with a comment stating that Coventry is no worse than anywehere else. IT IS, its horrible. I saw more violence in three years in Coventry than 18 living in London. The people are aggressive and violent and the city can be described as nothing but grim. But yes I do agree that it is what you make it- I had a great time there!
• The way the Precinct turns into a ghost town at 6pm. Not having that 'middle class' to bring in a 'bar and restaurant culture'.

• The less-than-generous student discount, meaning that it still costs fourteen quid to see Coventry City, despite them being rather low-standard. Aston Villa's a better bet.
• Students ,not all of them, but the ones who constantly slag Coventry off but at the same time live here. If it's that bad, go somewhere else!
• You can't buy plain bread, proper slice or Aulds pies
• I challenge you to drink in the town centre for a few evenings without seeing someone stabbed/ beaten up/ start on you etc.
• Not enough green spaces in the City Centre. The only place the River Sherbourne (which runs through Cov) is visible in the city centre is in a back alleyway! Not enough imagination by council planners to creater beautiful peaceful spaces within a busy city centre.
• Full of inbred morons looking for a fight, too ignorant and feckless to get off their arses and abandon a dying town with no life and less appeal than William Hague in a posing pouch.
• Student pubs where everyone is dressed in big baggy trousers and everyone has long hair
• Litter The Burgess Small minded thugs with small moustaches.
• The blocks of flats in Hillfields, most of northern Coventry

• The pubs and clubs mentioned are possibly the shitiest in Coventry unless you're a long greesy haired rocker. If you're up for more of a Party try Chatterways in Grey Friars Green or Craisy Daisy's on the A45 at Ryton on a Friday or Saturday.
• As a resident of Coventry for 26 years until May 1995 (now living in the USA), I agree with anyone who says that Coventry does not have any really good night club spots. Except of course if you're 16 or younger, all the young kids spoil the atmosphere of the night clubs in town. There isn't a lot to do in Coventry anymore. And let's just say it's like a mini-Calcutta.
• Coventry Bus Services Are Crap!!
• I have lived there for twenty years and it is shite, glad to leave the dirty smelly on the dole place.
• Well basically Coventry had its last good day around 1985: it really is a shit hole with no night life. I spent 23 years there until 1990 and can only cry for the young people who are left there. No wonder they just have so many kids at an early age when the city is so shit. My friends and I returned to the city on 30/1/97 and were horrified by just how dead the city wsas on a Thursday night: most bars just don't bother to open any more. The only semi decent place (Yates) was only half empty, with yobs who do not realise how stupid they look with their long shirts hanging out of their trousers. It's true that Coventry people do not have much respect for themselves and for any prospective visitors. You should know about the violence of the city centre: two brothers were stabbed to death and the amount of muggings and assults that go on by young yobs is ridiculous. And where are the police? Nowhere!!!! Spend and hour in this city and suddenly all your problems will not seem so bad.
• The moaning people who are apathetic towards everything, the city centre which might be nice if it hadn't been spoilt trying to modernise it. Coventry City Football Club's eternal battle against relegation.
• I left Coventry in 1966, probably before most of the "bitchers" in this section were born. Believe me Coventry, though it may suffer from the contempt bred from familiarity, taking it for granted, or just not having the iniative; It is one "helluva" city to come from. I have travelled extensively in the US and Canada and found that there is always somebody who wants to talk about Coventry. People out there know about the suffering of the war years, the Phoenix rising from the ashes, its motoring history, the cathedral etc etc etc. To the unhappy residents get out there have a look around, to potential visitors, I say arrange a visit, theres a lot to see.
• No concerts or anything nearby
• The ring road - "Best in Europe"?? What were they thinking of? It's the most dangerous stretch of road I've ever been on, with lanes crossing each other, lanes that start nowhere and end in a brick wall, and junctions where you have take the left-hand slip road to *stay on* the ring. Visitors to Coventry are *strongly* advised to avoid this road if they wish to live.
• Dont even think about getting around by bus - they are useless. Generally the shops are rubbish. Your better off going to Coventry, Birmingham, Leicester or Nottingham. Trouble is often not far away on the Friday and Saturday nights in the town centre. Sometimes it feels as if people have come from all over just to beat each other up. There are a lot of #gormless# individuals littering the whole area. This is probably due to a lack of technological employment and an abundance of manual labour in warehouses and the like. I've been given a hard time several times because I sound educated...so be warned.
• People who have lived here who now feel they have the right to slag it off. Coventry is what you make it and no different to any other City in that there are good areas and bad areas.
• I spent exactly 15 months in coventry, and I was bloody glad to get my arse out of there. Forget having a social life as the people in the pubs tend to be aggressive. The weather seems to be crap there also, as it rained more or less every day for the whole time I was there. It's CRAP!!!
