St Joseph's convent Freshfield 1946 by Pauline McLynn (Member 10252046) on 17-Sep-2010
I spent a term at a convent in Freshfield in 1946 when my mother was ill. I remember walking in pinewoods. Does anyone remember it? I think it's gone now and would like to see old photos of it.
  • Re: St Joseph's convent Freshfield 1946 by Frank Morley (Member 10264930) on 3-Sep-2011
I've just noticed your query. The convent -St Joseph's- was, I think, a convalescent home.My sister and I were accommodated there in 1946 when our mother was in hospital.I recollect that there were a lot of orphan children there in transit to Canada-these I suppose were victims of the war in Europe. I have a vivid recollection of one boy, about my age 7, collecting tea leaves from the other childr... more >>

You may be happy to know that Coronation Park is really looking super these days. It has had a lot of work done on the park and is really a pleasant place to visit.

Anyone Heard of This? by phonefun (Member 10234964) on 30-Jan-2009
Funny as anything. All sorts of randoms on it

It's basically a landline telephone number you can ring. 0870 755 0872.

Where you get put into a waiting facility, it then connects you to another caller, you say hello, and they can choose whether to talk to you, or put you back in the queue because they don't like the sound of you or whatever ... more >>

Pinfold Cottage by Les Norman (Member 10200065) on 31-Dec-2006
Hi to all you Great Crosby old boys.
Do any of you out there remember the little old thatched cottage known as Pinfold and later became Pinfold Pottery.
When was it pulled down and why was it allowed, surely it was a listed building.

  • Re: Pinfold Cottage by Rodney Molloy (Member 10262403) on 14-Jun-2011
Do you mean the thatched cottages in Cooks rd?

  • Re: Pinfold Cottage by penelope marmion (Member 10271441) on 8-Mar-2012
Hi there, just noticed your listing. My grandmother Lilian Leonard lived in 25 Cooks Road, G.Crosby. This building should have been listed. However, the local Council of the day gave permission to have it pulled down, shame on them. My ggrandfather Peter Leonard ran a construction business from there. Have no memory of it being turned into a Potter's House. Also have a photo of it if you are ... more >>

Support your Local Authors!! by John Haines (Member 10162936) on 4-Sep-2005
Seeing as many local book sellers are still reticent about getting involved in the new Print On Demand ( POD ) phenomenon, it's up to local authors to bang their own drum, and get prospective buyers to let the stores know that they should at least advertise the work of local authors, even if they have to 'order in' special print runs.
My name is John Haines, although I write under the name of Jos... more >>
