Is there a man out there who can satisfy my needs? I am a widow in my early sixties, and I am still young at heart. I am looking for a local man to keep me warm at night. The best way to find me is via the www dateagranny dot com web site - I would rather you find me there than email me directly - I hope you understand. Sylvia x

Hi,
I was in the 1230 AACS later to become the 2130th. I loved my 4 years in the area. I lived at Walnut Cottage, in Charlton. I worked at the receiver site. If you remember me - Tim Ryan please let me know and send an email.
Thanks,
Tim

I don't remember you but as a waiter at the Airman's club and NCO club and even the officers club I had to drive a van out to the receiver site and pick up you lot and bring you to the club and amazingly we all survived. In 1966 I got married to a Banbury gal and moved to Jasmine Cottage in Charlton. The bloke that ran the Hobby shop behind the fire station lived on the right as you entered Charlton.
Lots of good memories of Croughton. I know a few who were stationed with me that still live in Banbury and Brackley.

I was at RAF Croughton in 1964 & 1965. Unfortunately, I was volunteered to go to Turkey and that cut short my duty assignment for Croughton. We ran a radio relay shack next to the Crypto and teletype groups. I've been trying to find out how high the tower above our radio shack was. I'm still in touch with one of the guys I was stationed with. John P. Christian, who hailed from Amherst, Ma. I stood up for him when he was first married. ... more >>

This is in reply to Aria asking for information on the Croughton area for when he/she is posted here in 2006. I would refer you to two web sites giving local information as follows :-
www.southnorthants.gov.uk (then click on T for Tourist Information Centres and look for Brackley TIC.
www.northamptonshire.gov.uk/Leisure/Tourism
I hope you find these useful.
Kind regard.

I am one of the Old Fossils who arrived at RAF Crow forty years ago having extended six months for a consec overseas tour, then another six months to stay there. 3AF said no more extensions and LtCol Gilchrist got me extended yet again. I even offered to re-up just to stay, but they weren't making any deals. Did I like the place and the UK? I've been back twenty times at my own expense - often visiting the station and getting a tour. You figure it out. I'd still like a lease on Room 121, Barracks 140.

Dennis, I remember you. Weren't you from near St Louis? My daughter lives in Brackley and I understand Tom Adams does too. Peanuts Koenig and Bob Legg live in Banbury. Desmond Harding was still there working on Croughton when I last visited in 1999. I have fond memories from Croughton but find it harder and harder to get back on the base. Des got me on in 1999. I wonder what happened to Charley, the cook at the snack bar. Many years ago I saw Faye, another cook at the snack bar had married an Airman and moved to Florida!
Hope to hear from you.

Just wondering whether any of you remember my Dad, Mick or Mike Kenny. He worked in the nco club on Croughton between about 1960 and 1994. He would have been known as "Irish Mike". He Passed away in 1994 3 weeks away from retireing. He lived in croughton village opposite the blackbird pub. It would be nice to here from anyone who has any fond memories of my Dad who we all miss very much.

The things you find stumbling around the internet. Why yes, I do remember "Irish" Mike Kenny. I was stationed at RAF Croughton 90-93. Good man. I remember one time I was planning a trip to Dublin (New Years 93). Who else to ask but the resident Irishman on what to do New Years eve in Dublin. Mike was a big help. I traveled a lot while I was stationed there and Mike had a lot of advise. I'm sorry for your loss, he was quite the character. I have nothing but fond memories of the man.

I was there from 89-93 and I definitely remember "Irish" Mike Kenny. I worked as his bar back for several months. He let me pour a few for customers now and again. Mike was the nicest man I knew. He would tell us stories of what the base was like "in the good old days". I think he really loved working at that bar with all those "Yanks" either there or when he was younger and worked at the NCO club in UH. Mike was a not someone you easily forgot. Always there with a smile and a quiet word.
I pretty sure that I can say with absolute certainty that there wasn't a single person who worked on that base who didn't know him nor anyone who didn't like him. (I think I said that correctly). ... more >>

I was stationed at RAF Croughton from 1990-92. Yes, I definitely have fond memories of Mike. I spent quite a bit of time in the NCO Club. For a bit of time, when a drink was made wrong or whatever reason - it was added to the "LA Freeway" can. After a bit, one or two of us would buy whatever mystery concoction was created by the "LA Freeway" method.
Sometimes tasty, sometimes not, but always effective! Thank you Mike for the entertainment, conversation, and everything else! ... more >>

Iwas stationed at Croughton from 1964 - 1967. What a shock to here Mike has passed. I was just looking around the net when I came across this very bad news. I have always considered Mike a friend. He was a big part of my time at Croughton. What a great personality. He could make my day with the sound of his voice. When I came into the NCO stag bar I'd say "Michael!" and he would reply " Ah jasus Finny me boy" My name is Finlayson and he callled me Finny. When I returned to England for a visit in 1985 I went to Croughton to see the old base. The AP's let me on the base and I went stright for the NCO Club I walked into the bar And there Was Mike, Just like no time had past at all. Mike said "Ah jasus Finny me boy." He had not forgotten Me and I'll never forget him. We took a picture togather. I'll treasure it even more now.

I'm so very sorry to hear that Mike has passed away.
I was stationed at RAF Croughton from 1982-1985. Since I was a women in a place where there were mostly men; Mike always made sure that I was treated with the utmost dignity and respect. We sang together each St. Patrick's day. He really could sing quite well!!
The priest at my parish is from Ireland and since he has the same 'brogue', I think of Mike almost every Sunday.
He always had a smile and never seemed to have a bad day.

Amazing what you find on the internet. My wife was stationed at Croughton from 1993 to 1997, and I worked as a bartender with Mike as well as Mike Gidman. What an experience this was. Both great guys and mentors. I may have some pictures of working in the bar, now named after both of them.

Further to my message of 5 April 2004 I now think that Emma (my gt.gt. g.mother) died in Croughton about 1856 and that her husband, William, married again in Croughton in the early 1860s a lady by the name of Hannah (possibly Hawkins) and at some point moved out of the Croughton area, as their children were born in Broughton (according to the 1881 census). thanks Linda

I was at RAF Croughton from 67-71. I spent much time at the Blackbird Inn. At that time it was owned by a man named James, I believe. In 69 we we were on our way to the Isle of Wight concert and I had some friends from New York come over to join us. They stayed with James and his wife. I can't recall her name. I had a friend that worked on the base. He was a local named John Allen. He ran the Alexander’s clothes store on the base. His mother's name was Mary and worked in the Base Exchange. I've been back to Croughton many times since then visiting friends in Banbury and Brackley, but have never been able to find him. When he got married he lived somewhere on the Brackley Banbury road, maybe in Thenford or Farthinghoe. I actually brought his picture of 30 years ago to the pub in Farthinghoe a few years ago, but no luck. Does anyone remember him and if so please Email me. Either at ConeyisBoy@aol.com or jkopelow@bellsouth.net. Thank you so much.
A healthy year to all
