The dude who appears to be doing something vaguely illegal up a dark alley by the Whitgift Centre-never actually seen him, but instantly recongnisable by the music blaring out of his hidey hole. Not exactly an entertainer, but definitely a 'character'. As is the old drunk guy with one leg who plays the harpsichord and tries to get money off you.

THAT MAN USED TO SCREECH AND SQUAWK THE SAME TUNES OVER AND OVER AGAIN AND IF I EVER HAD THE GOOD FORTUNE TO DROP OFF TO SLEEP I WOULD DREAM OF WHOOSHING HIM AWAY VIA A HIGHLY POWERED WATER CANNON. I CAN SOMETIMES BE FOUND IN NORTH END TRYING TO STROKE PIGEONS WHICH SOME MAY FIND ENTERTAINING. I AM SELDOM LUCKY IN THIS PURSUIT. MY FRIENDS CAN BE IDENTIFIED AS THE ONES WALKING SWIFTLY AWAY.

  • Has anyone seen that female fossil who jogs absolutely EVERYWHERE? She has greying dark hair, and I am subjected to her wrinkly knees everytime I go to Croydon. I must say that she is SUPER, mind you, as I jog around the block a couple of times, and I'm exhausted. If this is your Grandma, my humble apologies at calling her a fossil, but she is ancient, man. Museum material.

  • a very friendly, fairly well matured gentleman by the name of arnold, always talking to someone, always laughing at everything, gives me excellent advice on what reggae records to buy. i'm not being sarcastic, i do actually buy things on his recommendation, and they've always been good. plus he was charming to my mum, so he get a thumbs-up in my book. i haven't seen him in a few months though - does anyone know who i mean, and how is he?
  • the men in blankets outside dorothy perkins deserve a mention- will a CD be coming out in the near future?!?
  • There's a good bloke with a 12 string swho hangs around the underpass out of the whitgift. But he only plays stereophonics songs which I hate.
  • funny rastafarian who always tries to sell you reggae tapes outside mcdonalds
  • The guy who sells the Big Issue outside Alders is really nice, go talk to him and buy the Big Issue! Hes a decent guy. There is usually someone playing a guitar badly in the subway outside the Nestle building, the reggae guy outside McDonalds, various entertainers in North End
  • Those lovely ladies who present you with some home-made lucky heather which'll bring you loads of good luck, in exchange for just a few quid. There's also a very short (midget) black guy that does acrobatics. Everyone else has been mentioned, apart from the young man who plays the guitar and sings through a microphone outside Virgin Records. He's definately got a good voice, but please mate, just sing the songs and stop trying to impress us with your vibrato's and the unnecessary notes you can hit. Leave that to Mariah Carey.

  • Croydon is full of street entertainers if you go along the main road on the weekend - most of them very professional using stereos, microphones, etc. Occasionally there are religious preachers as well. If they start to walk towards you, turn away.
  • the bloke who plays reggae tapes in north end and the other bloke with a guitar in the subway.
  • The very well dressed opera singing lady outside Allders always makes me chuckle!! Why oh why is she not in the Royal Opera House, rather than Croydon Town Centre?!!?
