The Knowhere Guide

Favourite Building in Crystal Palace, Greater London*

Art deco, contemporary, futuristic, tall, short...

You can tell us more about Crystal Palace.

Favourite Building
  • the scary house on church road
  • TV Tower, not a mast but more like the Eiffel Tower. A similar tower is nearby.
  • The Park- not so much a building but it has class and tranquility about it
  • The favourite building at the Crystal Palace would have to be the Crystal Palace, if it was still there. My mother watched it burn down (and she still lives in Penge) She tells me that she watched the first ever TV broadcast which used John Logie Baird's camera, studio and transmitter which were located in the Crystal Palace building and was viewed on the world's only two televisions, one of which was in the window of Radio Relays (which changed its name to Radio Rentals). His equipment was destroyed in the fire which destroyed the Crystal Palace. The Science Museum at S Kensington has confirmed that his equipment was destroyed in the fire ( and they have a replica of his camera), but I have never found confirmation about the broadcast. I know she was only a toddler at the time, but I don't think she could have invented this. Can anyone confirm thbis story??????
