Dancers from across the Globe will descend on Cheshire to compete at the 'UK Star Studded Championships held at Northwich Memorial Hall on the 1st,2nd & 3rd of August. I remember coming to Deal when I was a kid on holiday. It was a school trip and I am sure the camp was called Hawkshill? Can anyone confirm this please. It must have been in the late 60's early 70's. Was a WW1 aerodrome,today a nice bracing walk with the dogs. I think there is still a camp there in the Summer, lots of pony trekking goes on round there. We're looking around various coastal towns in Kent and Sussex with a thought to moving. What do people think to living in Deal? Can you think of somewhere on the coast that's nicer? Re: what's it really like? by Dafyn Jones (Member 10018231) on 29-Jun-2005 Deal is a wonderful town, the reason being is that you have to be coming here, you don't drive through here to be going anywhere else. You are never more than 5 minutes away from the sea, behind you is rolling countryside. History surrounsd you, this is where Julius Caesar landed to invade Britain (twice!)Compared to other towns in the South East, house prices are reasonable, there is a thriving h igh street with events throughout the year. An inordinate number of places to get a drink for a town of its size. East Kent people are very friendly and very frank. If there is a downside it is poor rail links to London which frustrates me so I drive to work, even then it only takes about an hour and a half. The weather when it is cold is REALLY cold, a NE wind will come straight from the Artic. Nelson described it as the coldest place on Earth! We have lived here for 8 years and can't imagine living anywhere else. Top tip, when you move here get a dog, you will meet more people than you can shake a stick at. Through our dog, we have found cheap builders and other skills. Have tried not to be too gushing and failed miserably!
