The Stuff We Can't Fit In Somewhere Else
- it's a dead town - don't bother as you may well die soon after your first "Not from around heree then?"
- Does anyone remember Neil Malpass? [Boxing champ]
- Re:famous people connected with doncaster - Sheridan Smith 9actress; comedienne; singer; West End musical star [Legally Blonde soon to be in the new musical Bridget Jones.
Also John Parr [Saint Elmo's Fire]
- I have been reading avidly about Roman remains recently unearthed in Doncaster. It appears the remains are of a TATORIUM or DUPONDIUS shop, similar to our modern day 'Pound Shops'. Experts claim you could purchase items such as a multipack of amphorae, Plebeian board games, leisure togas and cheap cosmetics made of lead. Apparently people would just throw this tat out or bury when they'd had enough.
My dad is now collecting all his tat together and burying it all in the garden, so in 300 years time it will end up in a museum...
- Doncaster Waterfront and the surrounding area: lots of used needles, empty wine bottles, dirty sleeping bags and other muck behind Tesco... see all the drunks and injectors round there at the weekend, especially in the summer months... and dossers too! Stand under the new bridge and get a whiff of stale piss: this is the spot where Donny dick heads like to stop off for a piss. It's quite a good place to commit suicide because no one would care, they'd probably just rob you, or walk on by!
- JAMES ROBINSON DONCASTER KNOWN AS ROBBO CONVICTED WOMAN BEATER YES IM TALKING ABOUT THE JAMES ROBINSON WHO USED TO LIVE BEHIND STAG PUB WHEATLEY DONCASTER HE GOT SENT DOWN FOR 6 COUNTS OF G.B.H ON HIS EX SHE HAD HER FACE REBUILD DOWN TO THAT WANKER JAMES ALEXANDRA ROBBINSON DONCASTERS NEW FAKE HARDMAN FUCKING NO MARK WOMAN BEATING WANKER!!!!!!!!!! ROBBO BOBBO THE FUCKING CLOWN GIRL FIGHTER ROBBO DONCASTERS NEW FAKE HARMAN WHAT A WANKER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!11
- The Theatres and pubs in doncaster offer the best entertainment often for little or no money, join in become a member of the theatre patronise the pubs before they all close due to lack of interest and you will be forced to go elsewhere
- how about the new breed of suicide bombers mounting a holy war against the chavs
- i loved livin there wish i still did my acent kaned!!! moved to somerset wen i was 5 so now i'm a wurzel guttin. my 1st year at school warmsworth c of e wot a gr8 school dunno wot it is now some stupid thing.
- the herbalist stocks a massive variety of healthy sweets, which taste better than anything you can get anywhere else. coltsfoot rock is a great example. and it's only 14p a stick! try the liquorice rock too.
- Travellers!
- If you can help it, don't stop in Doncaster! There isn't anything to do or see, so keep moving people!... keep moving!
- I really recomend Balby Carr Community Sports Collage (formaly known as balby Carr School) it's great for the kids and teachers are dedicated to there job.
- i have lived here all my life and i hate it pleas pleas pleas demolish doncaster now and kill all the townies, smackheads and gyipsies
- The person who slagged this place off obviously had no right to be there in the first place. I bet if they had lived there their whole lives they wouldn't be complaining about it. I only went on this because viewers need to know the truth and not someone unrealistic opinon.
- I have just read (Famous t.v. programme 'Open All Hours' was filmed in Hexthorpe, Don't know if the shop is still there) rubbish Open All Hours was filmed in Balby, using a hairdressers shop front. As far as I know it is still a hairdresser. There was only one episode filmed in Hexthorpe, where Granville was interested in a girl who worked in a fashion shop, and I live in the house that was used for that episode (no longer a shop though).
- The TV Sitcom OPEN ALL HOURS was filmed on Lister Avenue in Balby and the shop (really a hairdressers) is still there!
- All the schools deserve credit, none of them should be demolished!!!If they were all the kids could end up at your school and you wouldn't like that now would you?!!!!
- In 1993, 85000 people, 48.1 per cent of Donny's population, signed a petition which stated "I would rather be dead than live another day in Donny". However, it was later revealed the petition was the work of mischievous hoaxers from neighbouring Scunthorpe. "We were right narked" moaned local MP Alf Gimp.
- all donny birds are slappers - whats that all about.
my mate came down from manchester & was shocked about the clothes the donny birds wear
(or lack of clothes)
- There are 147 snooker tables in Doncaster (excluding those in private ownership).
- Famous t.v. programme 'Open All Hours' was filmed in Hexthorpe, Don't know if the shop is still there.
- Bollocks!
- Somewhere in this list a comment was made about roads upgrading around Doncaster - I thinks that's excellent news as I'll be able to get back out of the town quickly following my infrequent return trips. The A1(M) northbound must be one of the best directed in the country! Only kidding! History buffs may like to know that Doncaster was encompassed by Sherwood Forrest in times of old and a drinking well supposedly used by Robin Hood sits beside the A1 at Burghwallis. My favourite places in Doncaster were Cusworth Hall Museum - the hill down to the lake was great in winter!, the motor show at the racecourse exhibition centre, and the park at Hexthorpe. Maybe current residents can let the world know if these places are still worth a visit. The last time I visited was over three years ago - sorry Donny!
- Cool site in Copley Road. A cybercaf at last. Let's all meet there and parley, Craig.
- Buildings and Architecture: The Mansion House, built in 1744. There are only three in the UK. The other two are in York and London. It was built as the mayor's residence, but was used to entertain Doncaster's famous visitors during race meetings. South Parade and Regents Square have some great Georgian architecture. These fine town houses were built in the late 18th century. The Co-op Emporium, built in the 1930s, is one of the country's finest examples of art deco architecture, and it was said to have been a target for the Lutwaffe.
- A previous correspondent states that some pubs are unsafe, and that Doncaster is mainly a working class town. This is not strictly true. The pubs are all safe, and Bessacarr, originally developed in the immediate post war years, is the country's largest private housing estate. The town was the center of the nation's largest coalfield, from 1910 until the 1980s, but today it is a retail and service centre. This has evolved from its earlier role as a service centre for the 250,000 pop who came to the area, attracted by colliery and railway jobs, and the professional and retail services for them, which were developed by a growing middle class population. Hence Bessacarr, and numerous private, suburban developments from the 1880s onward. And there was a private house building boom in the 1930s. Just count the endless semi-detached, bay-windowed house around Donny. These private estates probably outnumber the council estates, developed from the 1920s onward.
- Visitors to Donny should also check out the Doncaster Museum on Chequer Road, the Doncaster Racecourse, and the nearby Dome leisure and entertainment center.
- town was one of the nation's most famous rail centres, from the 1840s until Thatcher. The Plant Works built some of the nation's most famous steam locomotives, including the Flying Scotsman and Blue Peter.
- Famous for much of the filming of hit film Brassed Off.
