Arts, crafts and such
  • Herrings High West st is brilliant for knitting yarn, upstairs
  • cerijan gift shop on high west street has really great gifts and is very friendly
  • doodle potz
  • There is a shop in trinity street which is great for the kids because you pay a certain amount of money to paint things on plates, mugs etc. Then you get to take them home.
  • Hi Ho Silver in Antelope walk is a cracking Silver jewellery shop which sells all types of designs and styles they get their Silver direct from Mexico and India, they also sell aluminium bowls and plates which are hand cast in sand. Ask for the manager Emma who is always helpfull and happy to chat and if you have an idea for an unusual design that you cant find anywhere just ask and she will try to get you a one off made on her next trip to Mexico.
  • Barque in the Tudor Arcade (that's the Waitrose one!) - excellent range of silver jewellery, gifts, etc and lovely hand-made cards.
  • Herrings is fab - High West Street, you can get lost in that place, full of everything you ever needed to make/paint/sculpt/sew/knit?? anything you ever wanted
  • The Potter Inn used to sell really groovy pottery (surprisingly), made by a mate's Mum, Rose Swann
  • Thanx for all the great comments about Arcadia & The Arc!! We closed in September 2000 to move to Penzance where we have opened a new shop, DV8, which is way cooler than our other shops ever were! If you're ever down this way come & say Hi! Thanx to everyone in Dorchester for all your support. Peta & Paul xx
  • Arcadia in the arcade has shut. There are now no good shops in Dorchester but you can still go in to town and check out all the weirdo's [There are loads in Dorchester]
  • The dinosaur museum for the only Reptiloid model outside of Canada, and the Tutankamun exhibition - just because!
  • THE best shop in Dorch is Change of Scene or Seen in Antelope Walk
  • There is a (small) art gallery in the town centre but I don't know if it's any good.
  • Try Arcadia, in Tudor Arcade, Dorchester most original shop and by far the friendliest
  • Arcadia, Tudor Arcade. Loads of funky gifts, jewellery, textiles, lava lamps etc. Take plenty of dosh to spend!!
  • For pure American-oriented kitsch there is Peaches in the Antelope Walk. It's so naff you won't belive it.
