Cheap Food in Dorchester, Dorset*
Corner eateries, quick bites and the local chippy
You can tell us more about Dorchester.
Cheap Food
- For those that used to frequent The Mock Turtle, there's now a great new place called Alibi's Wine Bar on Great Western Road. Quite a kitsch name I know but it's pretty stylish inside and do a great range of locally produced food to a very high standard. You'll have to book in advance at the weekends of course!
- NOTHING IS CHEAP IN DORCHESTER!
- peter pan fish and chips
- Wimpy haha. Run by teenagers and is usually always empty.
- Judge Jefferys changed hands now, steak night Thursday night pint and a steak for under a tenner worth a go. try a rare fillet lush.
- ICELAND...and the wimpy in dorch is funny as hell, its so 80's i wouldnt be suprised if u saw duran duran enjoy some cheese burgers in there.
- Do not go to wimpy because you can never guaruntee what you will get in your food and the service is appalling: It's where all the young smokers hang out too. If you want fast food it's worth a drive to mcdonalds at monkeys jump. For lunch however go to the baguette shop opposite argos. It's take away but it's absolutely gorgeous and good value!

- china express fish n chip shops loads!!!
- Wimpy bar at end of South St is brilliant. Good offers on food and great coffee.
- Raj Poot - my favourite indian - and i've visited them all several times! and no matter how drunk I get, they're always pleased to see me again next time!
La Caverna is still nice too!
- Number 8 = a long wait. I was in there for over an hour before anyone came to take my order. Then the order was be wrong, cold and vary late! It looks crowded everybodys stuck in there for so long.
- wimpy ,tumpet major
- A marvellous Wimpy is the first and only brand-name takeaway in Dorchester, which stays open until 5pm, even on Saturdays. Beware. If visiting Dorchester you may need to bring your own sarnies.
- The Mock Turtle really is one of the best restuarants you could go to. The food is reasonably priced and completely scrumptious. Well worth a visit if you're in Dorchester.
- The Spice Centre - Dorsets most delicious Indian Resturant. Good looking waiters and situated outside Dorchesters main nightclub. Foods not bad either!
- La Caverna is a great Italian restaurant about 50 metres up from the
Dinosaur Museum. Must book tables at the weekends. Most of the tables are in a
cavernous underground room - hence the name. The mussels are a favourite
of mine. The chef, Franco, and his wife, Alison, run the place - you're
guarenteed to hear fruity Italian echoing from the kitchen. The service
isn't always great, so go prepared to take your time and drink plenty of
their excellent house red.
- Be careful of Empire Kebabs (High East Street): make sure you get your food before you pay them, also if they don't like you they will hit you with a big stick (literally) -- I've seen this happen to somebody at Easter; also their kebabs tend to get cold very quickly and are very greasy. Jacobs, just down the road on the right is far better and they won't ever try to beat you up!
- Thai restaurant at the bottom of High East Street is quite good.
- Mock Turtle (High West Street) is very nice, but a bit pricier than most.
- Indian and Italians are all quite good.
- Potter Inn on Durngate Street is O.K. for lunch - Unpretentious, good sized portions.
- Westers in North Square is really good for lunch.
- Don't bother with: Judge Jeffreys, Restaurant at the Wessex Hotel.
- Jola's- take away Sri Lankan food. Pricey but absolutely delicious.
