The Worst Things in Dublin, Dublin*

The entirely missable and worth mentioning because of it

You can tell us more about Dublin.
The Worst Things Bookmark and Share

  • Accommodation (no matter how many stars) in streets filled with loud drunkards
  • Idiots calling Ireland part of "The British Isles". Its been a Republic for a long time. People thinking that the Republic of Ireland is part of the UK. Drunken Skangers. English stag parties. English Tourists. Poor bus services
  • The rough dublin accent with all the swear words.
  • Drug Capital of the British Isles? Maybe if ti was British, but it ain't... anyway, flip the banks on Bride Street and i'll give ye e tenner...
  • ASTONISHING prices, litter, general reluctance of shop staff to acknowledge that customers might be worth serving occasionally, only one readily accessible climbing wall.
  • Despite the lovely countryside that surrounds the area, the city centre itself is actually extremley ugly
  • 'City of Dublin: twinned with the cities of Barcelona,Liverpool and San Jose' says the Welcome to Dublin sign off the M5O. Barcelona - a city known for its gangs and violence, Liverpool - a city famous for slums, deprevation and shellsuits and San Jose - a northern Califonian city near San Francisco famous for gays..... these all resemble modern day Dublin to me!!
  • THE SMELL THATS KINDA EVERYWHERE
  • Its so dangerous and violent
  • Benburb street
  • The smell of the Liffey and people jumping off O Connell bridge into the liffey commiting sucide
  • The smell of grease and diesel in o connell street....yuck
  • Its so depressing, you cant listen to the news on a monday morning without hearing about various shootings that took place in Dublin over the weekend.
  • Little girls and boys coming over from Britain with their mums and stopping you in the street and asking you if you actually know Nicky and Bryan (from that shitty boyband) and footballers Robbie Keane and Damein Duff. It has happened to me lots of times!! I find it a bit insulting acutally, i know its sweet in a way but loads of people from england seem to think that Dublin is a little town with a little over 1,000 people in it where everyone knows everyone
  • the accent!! dear god the accent!
  • To anyone that says Dublin is a friendly city....what unfriendly rude hole of a place have you come from???? The capital of this fantastic (cough, cough) country is about as friendly as a walking down an alley in a New York slum in the middle of the night. Trust me ive lived here for 19 years and as soon as im done with college im getting out of this shithole of a 'city'.
  • *ADVERTISEMENT* Looking for easy-to-find,cheap and 100 % pure illegal drugs? Well then head off to Dublin , the drug captial of the British Isles! In this kip of a city you will be sure to find reliable drug-pushers on every street corner, in every pub, niteclub, bus, and shop! Drug pushers are spread wide and far across this beautiful city, with the local police not bothering to do anything about it! So if your looking for that 'special dealer' who will sell you any drugs you want!! and the police wont care! (Flights available from all London airports, Leeds Bradford, Liverpool, Manchester, Birmingham, Plymouth and Blackpool)
  • The drug addicts, the alchaholics, the dirt, the murders, the buses, the rude knackers... the list goes on.....
  • AS A LOCAL - THE TOURISTS...FAR TOO MANY OF THEM CLOGGING UP THE PAVEMENT WHEN I AM COMING HOME FROM WORK!! AND GET RID OF THE STAG AND HEN PARTIES NOW!!
  • The smelly diesel atmosphere.... :(
  • The city is crawling with pond life and some of them are especially keen on targetting tourists. The Temple Bar area used to be derelict warehouses but has been trendified in recent years, now pretnetious, and very expensive. Beware spitting and scratching "Asylum seekers" - best not to make eye contact and note that all the begging female ones have a male minder close at hand of whom some are armed. Not much point in reporting assaults to An Garda (Police) as they are said to have a backlog of nearly 20,000 unsolveds.
  • LEAVING DUBLIN TO RETURN TO SCOTLAND
  • Ireland is a great country - apart from motoring that is. If you are at all inclined to road rage do not drive there! Apparently there is no penalty points system on driving licenses, and no dedicated traffic cops. As a result, there is a death rate nearly 2x to that of say the UK. Expect to be cut up, tailgated and forget about using roundabouts! Signposting is poor and roads markings erratic. There is a solid and dashed white line across junctions (where there is any markings at all). This can either mean no entry OR give way. If you stop at one of these lines in Dublin, expect fist waving, blaring horns and mean stares. If you ignore it, you are going down the wrong way in a one way system. Traffic lights appear at random at junctions, usually hidden behind lamp posts - if working at all. Potholes of all shapes and sizes appear at random all over the place. On main intercity roads, expect unlit trailers/lorries hiding from view on the hard shoulder (thats if you can see at all with the blinding headlamps from the car following you 2 meters behind your arse at 60mph). Give any car with a L - plate or with 'WW' on the license plate at least one mile clearence. Any closer and expect your car to be destroyed.
  • Scumbags threatening you with blood-filled syringes. High taxes and VAT. Poor public transport. 70s buildings everywhere. English stag parties acting like twats in Temple Bar.
  • The Worst ? erm.. honestly? The bird of peace has become very unreliable as of late...
  • In reply to the comment made in the "whats bad" section about Dublin, which hinted that the current situation with the Peace Process may affect the city: Dublin has never been affected by the "troubles" in the north of the country, and I can't see that situation changing. It is an unfortunate situation the whole of the British Isles faces at present, but the kind of speculation hinted at in that comment is unjustified and doesn't help the situation.
  • The original poster hasn't got a clue. Whether the bird of peace lives or dies has got a lot to do with the quality of life in Belfast, but not much to do with the quality of life in Dublin. Southern Ireland watches the Troubles like you do - on your television set.
  • Anywhere that plays rave music!
  • It's very expensive. And I can't understand why so many English men go to Dublin for their stag nights/weekends/weeks. Cosmopolitan it may be but there's still the underlying holiness. Perhaps it's the fiancees that choose the lads' destination. I'd go to Amsterdam.
