The Stuff We Can't Fit In Somewhere Else
- If your're looking for a new place to live, this has got a vibrant local scene, mostly centred round the local pub, so if your're tee totla its probably not the place for you
- You mentioned Westwoods shop, and what was next door. Well! next door on the other side was the house that I was brought up in,and it wasn,t much different in size to the phone box that is there now. Chris Hamp.
- There are two interesting rumours about Dunton Bassett church: 1) Oliver Cromwell paid a visit and sharpened his sword on a pillar (check if you want) and 2) the keyhole to All Saints CHurch is in line with the spire of St. Mary's in Broughton. hmmm
- actually wakes close used to be a set of tennis courts, however, the twigdon family inventors of the fairground carousel used to live in the building which is now the post office.....get your facts right.
- recently adopted resident 'Gareth Williams' made famous in Broughton Astley with his snow dome and paper clip collection, has been arreested by the DBPD
(Dunton Bassett Police Department). The crime against the village include:
Alledged traffic cone theft,
Walking around in a load shirt in a built up area between the hours of darkness.
- To answer the reliably informed chap who mentioned merry-go-rounds and other jovial contraptions of that ilk, I can reveal that Wakes Close is allegedly so named because there used to be a fairground just down there. Apparantly a Wake is a type of funfair. Just imagine the hilarity of days gone by when the question; "are you awake?" was returned with "no, but my dad was a safari park"....
- One of the finest collections of modern pornography in Leicestershire. 'Richy Moons Rorn Emporium' is not to be missed.
- Those fairground rides, the merry go round ones were you sit upon the horse and it goes up and down the pole, they we're invented in Dunton Bassett.
- The Church has the largest spire in Leicestershire.
- But, Dunton is home to the uk headquarters of the Children of God religious cult, now known as the Family. They live in Dunton Bassett Manor at the bottom of Bennett's Hill. As a result both Channel 4 and the Independent have been hanging around Dunton Bassett in the last three years.
