When to Go
The climate of Earl Shilton is much like any other back water gutter town. Generally the summer months are the best time to visit and for you sun worshipers this is a must. At this time of the year, a lot of the locals have been released early for Welford Road Prison and there is generally a jolly atmosphere. This is also a very good time to indulge local pastimes such as Post Office robbery and Gang land fighting in the parks.
Warning
The border between Barwell, at the extreme north of Earl Shilton, is a highly flammable area, forever teetering on the edge of violence. There is a local revivalary between the two communities which has been born out by the worst of all things, different Schooling. It is best to avoid this area at all times. If you are worried about the troubles, it is advisable to contact you local embassy before travelling.
Places:
Castle Park:
Castle Park is a beautiful place to visit on a sun blessed afternoon, although it is not advisable to travel to this area of Earl Shilton alone. If you must visit this area, do so in numbers of 10 or more. Located at the south west, this park has a castle with two reasonably size turrets which conveniently double as bathrooms. You can usually find at least half a bottle 'Turbo Red' here too but beware the contents maybe toxic. You will find an assorted array of used condoms in this area which clearly lay testament to the good natured inhabitants. The 'Avenues' are located only a short distant from the park and are well worth a visit. The 'Avenues' are comprised of two parts. Avenue North and Avenue South. You can get access to either of these areas from the north and are joined at the bottom. If you have time, try to walk the length until it's conclusion without being verbally or even physically assaulted by a five year old who hasn't seen soap since he left the hospital with his mother.
The park with no name:
The park is not what it used to be in it's hayday due to some poorly judge local council decisions. Put quite frankly, some uninformed Muppet decided to build a half-pipe in the park but made it out of some seriously substandard material and has since rotted in a fashion that can only be liken to the community it was built for. Never the less it seems to be a great place for 20+ tossers to hang out and smoke copious amounts of (plastic)Resin and try and pull naive 12 years old girls. If you are lucky enough you might even catch the local militia beating some poor innocent with in an inch of their life with a weapon that any baseball player would like to call there own.
Cedar Road Park:
This is a must for anyone trying to pull. On any given evening 12 year old girls are plentiful. The park is situated in the north east region of Earl Shilton and is the centre of many a night time activity. You can visit the park in the day but it seems to have more appeal in the evenings. There are things to watch out for in this area. It is quite common for the local females to ask you to 'Buy us some fags' cos I can't get served'. This seems to be, from an observer, a part of the mating ritual. If you are not planning to stay in the area for any length of time, it is advisable to stay away from these well timed advances.
Co-Op Car park:
The Co-Op car park is a fantastic place to catch up with all the other 20+ people. These would be the people that hang around in the car park for one of three reasons. A) Can't Drive yet. B)Can't Drive because they are ban.C)Trying to pull naive 12 year old girls in a car that they have had transported there because they can't drive. If you arrive in the summer months, you maybe able to take part in the local sport of throwing coins at passing motorists. To catch most of the action, be sure to go late in the evening.
Events.
Events in Earl Shilton are few and far between. If possible try to visit in October when the fair is in town. The fair usually lasts for a week if the violence hasn't escalated too much, and is a good time to watch drunken street bawls between rival sects. The fair usually attracts quite a few visitors even though the weather is not always suitable. You will be sure to see the local drug dealers out in force and even some patrons as far a field as Hinckley, Nuneaton and Coventry. It seems to be a good time to air ones grievances and usually ends with a grand finale of fighting and criminal damage before turning on the 'Gypo's' that own the attractions. It's a good idea to keep all valuables in a money belt but don't make it obvious, you may look like a gypo yourself. The Carnival is the only other major event in the calendar and generally attracts the same crowds. This is usually held in the middle of summer but is usually marred by bad weather yet again. Bored school kids are in abundance and is it is usually the venue for the local perverts to snare a new victim. If you are solo female traveller, it is advisable to carry at least one 12" blade.

Getting Around
Earl Shilton is a surprisingly big village and some of the local criminals would tell you it is actually a town. Travel around Earl Shilton is very simple and the locals will be more than happy to steel a car for you and if you are lucky, drive it too. Beware that if you are planning a return journey to get another stolen car. After use these vehicles are usually burnt or driven into the post office in the centre of the village.
