- I believe Pete Waterman slummed it round here for a while. And the Stephenson (you know, the guy who built thr Rocket and revolutionised steam trains) lived here although his former residence was knocked down.

- Colin Welland, won an Oscar for screenplay of Chariots of Fire. Professor Porter, won Nobel prize. TV presenter Stuart Hall had a travel agency here.
- Colin Welland (was Colin Williams in his youth,) but someone else had the same Playwriter and actor, ex newton grammar School. Has wriiten about the school in his early plays, particularly Jack Point.
- Gerry Kenny aka "The Minister of Noise" aka "Sir Freddie Viadukt" leader of NAAFI Sandwich, International recording star and inspiration and role-model for all not wishing to grow up or dip more than their toes in the fetid gene-pool that is Earlestown.
Chris Cookson: Guitarist with Jah Wobble and former member of several NW bands.
- RICK ASTLEY (We're so proud!). STEVIE HAMPSON (Rugby League player). The chap who created "Cotten Traders" cloathes went to school here yesrs ago. I can't recall his name but I think he played profesional rugby aswell. WIGGY out "The Hit Man And Her" lived here for a bit.
