The Best Things
- Robertson Barracks being in a soldiers bed they are so yummy and so many to choose from.
- Soldiers so many fit ones
- A Nice Market town back in the 90s
- The council officially named the town Dereham quite a few years ago... see The Worst Things! A councillor stood up at a meeting & said: "Well I call it East Dereham, and I've lived in Dereham all my life!" Point taken, thank you. :)
- I grew up in Dereham and could not wait to leave; so I did, 30 years ago! However, I now appreciate what a pleasant, safe place it was to spend the formative years in. I had some great times being bored around the town centre, sitting outside the cinema eating chips from Big Fry, cycling to Watton open air pool in the summer because Dereham didn't have one (or going the falls at Swanton Morely), or cycling to Norwich for a pint 'cus we were bored with the local pubs etc etc.
On the few times I've been back things pretty much seemed the same and this is confirmed from the other entries in this forum & that's the appeal - if you don't like it you too could always leave!
- nice chavs
- ITS OK IF YOU WANT A QUICK HIT ON THE AMOUNT OF DRUGS AVAILABLE AND TO BECOME EVEN MORE SMALL MINDED LIVING AROUND ALL THE MINDLESS PEOPLE THAT LIVE THERE.(NOT)
- going to norwich
- going, friends and memories
- Chameleon club, give it support!
- the best thing about dereham is when my smushys up there. all u dereham slags can keep your hands off coz hes mine forever and ever and ever. is that clear??
- When i was living in Toftwood, the schools where brilliant!! I left and went to a school where we played games all day for 3 years and never did maths English or any other subjects!! Everyone just mucked about we all left without qualifications. It was a high school in Bramhall Stockport Cheshire. The shools in Norfolk where great teachers taught you correctly, 21 years later I returned to the town teachers met me out of their own good heart. Well done Northgate and Toftwood schools.
- The best thing about Drearyham, is the fact that the film U-Turn (staring Sean Penn) was based on this tumble weed infested, inbred capital of ye olde fens.Frosty.
- having places to go 4 16 yr olds, the downstairs is great 4 a laugh and gettin served is lush
- My mummy
- The people warm, friendly but a bit shy.
- ..............(thinking), er is there anything that you can like there might be something that i might not have discoverd.
- bus routes to norwich
- IT'S BETTER THAN LIVING IN EAST LONDON AMONGST DRUGGIES P**S HEADS AND BAS**RD CAR THEIVES
- going back there and feeling so happy that you don't live there any more
- There's no good things that come to hand. I have some good friends their but like myself they have graduated and moved on to real lives.
- aren't many really: Neatherd Moor - lots of ducks if the sixthformers haven't scared them off, playground
loads of driving instructors
leaving is probably the best thing about Dereham
- Bed time
- Dereham has been much slagged off on this web site and this is unfair. It might not be a mecca for teenagers, but it is a great place to live if you have young kids; you like the countryside; you dislike big cities; you like to live in bigger houses than you could afford elsewhere; and you generally want to live life in a slower lane. Dereham is not the best place for nightlife around, but then it does not want to be!
Local people once you have made the effort to get to know them! Yes they can be retiscent, but they also have hearts of gold/
- you can walk it in around 20 mins
- PEOPLE
- National Express runs through for those with any hope!
- If you like the quiet rural life, Dereham is a Mecca. It has a market, lots of unexpected shops, some basic caffs and food places, and a bit of history . I go to Norwich about once a year.

- Dereham is, in many ways, typical of a small Norfolk market town. If you want a hectic life, full of everything up to the minute and lived at a fast pace, don't come to Dereham or Norfolk. If, however, you are prepared to live life at a slower pace, in a place where it's still safe to allow your kids out on the streets, then this part of Norfolk may well be for you. Norfolk is great - plenty of open spaces, it's quiet on the whole, people are usually friendly and polite. Dereham, being in the heart of Norfolk is ideally located for access to the city - Norwich, the *beautiful* North Norfolk coastline with its mile upon mile of golden sandy beaches - beautiful countryside in the form of the Thetford Forest, wonderful heathlands and many, many public rights of way through wonderful country lanes, forest paths and the like. If you are into walking but don't want to hike up and down mountains, try the Peddars' Way footpath and the Norfolk Coastal path. A great variety of scenery with easy walking and plenty of pubs en-route to act as watering holes.
- I SUPPOSE I COULD HAVE BEEN BORN IN THE FENS OR THE OUTER HEBRIDIES
- The lovely girls working at the cinema !!!
- me and my mates....we rule the town!!
- Quiet
- erm..
- Free parking. Good shops. Massive choice in take-away food. Road, bus and (soon) rail links to Norwich.
- the 'everyone knows everyone ' kind of feeling- it's really friendly, if annoying at times.
- Peacefull to a point no crime
