The Worst Things in Eastbourne, East Sussex*
The entirely missable and worth mentioning because of it
You can tell us more about Eastbourne.
The Worst Things
- estates, gangs, straps,
- gangs,estates,gangsters,drug dealers and violence
- housing estates and gang and gun culture
- The Langney Housing Estate , illegal dogs , being able to get illegal firearms and drugs in a click of ur fingers , gangs .... lots of gangs , druggies, scousers , burnt out cars . deffo dnt wanna live in eastbourne at the moment , old town and meades is the only nice parts really oh and the harbour but everywhere out is pretty run down
- Harry Ramsden's Fish 'Restaurant'
I think it's the only fish restaurant permitted on Eastbourne's elegant sea front. Which is a pity. Yes, it's pretty cheap but then it should be.
We 'dined' there very recently and the fish was largely batter, too small and presented with absolutely no style at all. When dining there I felt we were being processed in a similar way the peas which accompanied the completely lack -lustre fish and chips.
Finally, I noticed that they couldn't even be bothered to complete the interior decor, as the ceiling just had bits of open metal framework and crummy fluorescent lights.
Why did we go into such a crappy place? I guess it's that old one about the power of the brand.
Never again!
- Eastbourne is fast becoming a hovvel
People weein in doorways, litter, drunkards, and full of dirty slappers on friday and saturday nights.(Alright if you need a quickie i suppose)
Eastbourne we hear local policitans pontifcate..'its a greatplace to live'..well they need to step out of the victorian era, open their blinkered eyes and stop kidding themselves ..its violent, dirty and intimidating..unlike London where I used to live
- The worst thing is this site slagging off scousers (get a life) whoever wrote this . why judge people?
whats wrong with elderly people?
the worst thing is the teenagers who have no respect
- Local Council are backward and conservative in opinion. This means that bars and clubs are rarely open for long as they have a lcencing department who would give the third reich a run for their money in strictness.
- The worst thing about Eastbourne is the Scousers. Eastbourne used to be a lovely calm and safe place but the massive influx of scousers has dragged the town down.
- the wannabe gangsters that wouldn't stand a chance In a real city
- Lack of jobs, the economy is a low income one. Eastbourne needs more vibrancy but the council is not very pro-active and things are falling apart from lack of funding. Large shopping schemes are sucking the life blood out of the town centre and secondary retail areas. There are more vacant independent shops and businesses up for sale than thriving ones.
- the traffic-nightmare! try and get along seaside on a saturady morning you've had it! and the problem with traffic means parking problems aswell, and the shops in the town are abit naff too many pondshops and 'discount stores' where are the bigger shops- better name ones?though it isnt exactly a fashion shop-why havent we got a woolies?!
- charity shops
- Old People, Genteel Victorian atmosphere, drunks, wierdos, murders in seafront chalets, boarding houses, lack of shops & cafes and general boringness.
- haloosinit (hang out for homosexuals with attitude) / seagulls / the tramps named above (they are ruining a lovely town)/ the attitude of the council towards the youth of the town / the drugs (if its rife in eastbourne its got to be everywhere)
- People can be soo boring!
- The ongoing war between townies and grungers. Sort it out!
And in Summer the streets are packed with old biddies (more than usual anyway) who've come down on coaches, and large groups of foreign exchange students (identified by red rucksacks/ flourescent yellow baseball caps etc)
- Shinewater (aka Crimewater)
- Not enough decent pubs and clubs
- The entire area of Hamden park
- Still not a very modern place in terms of shops, clubs etc but hopefully one day (crosses fingers)
- The new generation of scousers moved down last week for the silly (twatty) season.
- The tourists
- Scousers aplenty. Not my bag baby!
- Decent gear is well expensive (if you know wht I mean) also seems to have been a population explosion in grungers, come on guys sort it out, get a suit, some unripped clothes and earn some respect, God knows you all compromise your 'individual values' just to work at McDonalds or Debenhams anyway. p.s. Love the uniforms guys
- The people dragging the town back. The demographics are shifting and
Eastbourne's getting younger, but there is a tension between the historical
'forces of conservatism'. The Lib Dem/Tory council doesn't know its arse
from its elbow on most matters and nothing progressive ever gets done. This
suits the cosy middle class pensioners that are the only politically active
group of any substance. However, this doesn't represent the youth (meaning
those under 35) or the disadvantaged, or a whole load of other people. The
local papers add to the problem, by paying peanuts for reporters and getting
monkeys. Problems of support and services for addicts, homeless, refugees,
small businesses, poor young families and students need addressing. The town
planning could do with a re-think too. However, everything will change, as the
growth in young families (Stone Cross, Langney) and commercial development
(start-up businesses, stable commerce and specific projects, like the Crumbles)
combine to prompt a shift in attitudes. The old people aren't a problem, but
their over-representation is. Cheers - I was born here and nobody ever listens,
all the good people get disillusioned and leave.

- irritable grumpy bargain hunters who are under the delusion they pay my wages
- The place is full of dribbling townies!
- The people who live in the lovely big houses
- All the foreign exchange students who just seem to be stuck permanantly in shop doorways.
- Everything...except the above. Don't move there if you value your sanity!!1!!
- Lots of old people. Too many foreign students cluttering up the pavements and buses in the summer. Too many out of work Liverpudlians.
- The beach in Winter
- the townies
- To many old farts around
