  • Beatback Records, just down a side street from the tail end of Nicolson street. this shop is piled high with records. LITERALLY!!! You can't move for piles upo piles of records each 8-10 foot high! You can find anything and everything in this shop.
  • Unknown Pleasures on Canongate is the best vinyl shop in town. Good selection, well-presented, sensible prices. They've even got decent reggae and northern soul.
  • HMV has the best selection of regular titles but Virgin has either really popular or really obscure, nothing in the middle.
  • Elvis Shakespeare on leith walk- new not bad, good selection of cheap second hand. Backbeat records, just off south clerk st - Unbeatable selection.
  • Fopp- one in Rose Street and one in Cockburn street is gooooood. Avalanche too in Cockburn Steet.
  • Virgin store next to St James centre. Wear a hood and ski mask the ponces who shop and work there won't stop you, if you're fast and brave enough.
  • redlight records, 36 shop street, galway, ireland friendly, informative staff and good stock. very supportive of irish artists. its hot! a must must must if ur in galway.
  • www.backtracksmusic.co.uk at 17, Brougham Street Tollcross, Edinburgh 0131-228-4898 or 07889-363686 huge range in small helpful shop.
  • FOPP and Avalanche are great for getting anything you want that's not in the charts but then the charts are crap now so that's ok.
  • Vinyl Villains (top of leith walk) über disko cockburn street in general (you'll find plenty there)
  • Try Backtracksmusic 17, Brougham Street Edinburgh is aqn aladdin`s cave of music and equipment.Fantastic selection of obscure and collectable vinyl, cds, videos dvds even original 78s and 8 track cartridges. For gamers every format from atari 2600 to Playstation and x-box.www.backtrsacksmusic.co.uk
  • underground solution, cockburn street. amazin hiphop, dance drum n bass etc.
  • Avalanche
  • HOUSE, TECHNO, D'n'B, HIP-HOP, BREAKS, are all stocked in UNDERGROUND SOLU'SHN on cockburn st. This place is where to go for your tasty black wax. Richie Rufftone (DMC Champ) works here. The Main problem with that place is that every time you go in (..and i mean EVERY time) you come out having spent AT LEAST £30!!! Its a bit too good. and recs are not cheap. Check out the FOPP bargain boxes for some bloody stunning £2 vinyl!! I got origin unknown, andy c, mark rae & quality breaks tunes in there yesterday. *well chuffed!
  • avalance rocks the most. fopp is second best. you shouldnt need to go anywhere else really.
  • fopp. fopp. fopp. friendly and cool. avalanche, not so friendly but a great selection too, just always compare prices with fopp before buying new stuff (usually cheaper next door, certainly for vinyl). underground solushn, the least intimidating dance shop i've ever been in (which is a good thing by the way). quality choice, but can be on the pricey side. still, if you want the best... all of these on the fabled cockburn street, although there are a couple more avalanches around bristo and a cd-and-book-only fopp on rose street.
  • Fopp on Rose Street is really great.
  • Te best music shop in my opinion is avalanche there are quite a few situated around Edinburgh the main ones are on cockburn street, teviot place, west or north hanover street
  • the new fopp down rose street- where else can you drink, smoke, read and listen to records all at the same time? And you dont even have to but anything!
  • Fopp Records in Rose Street. Part of what I call the new Edinburgh triangle. Fopp, Sainsbury's Central and Marks and Spencers foodhall.
  • avalanche on cockburn st
  • There's 'Gee-cd's' in tollcross, and also 'Hogshead' in newington. But the hallowed places are 'Fopp' and 'Avalanche' records around the centre of town. They are considered sacred by all.
  • Professor Plastic in West Register St is the place for quality second-hand vinyl and top notch reissues. Owner Mark is very friendly and knowledgeable and willing to give discount to regulars!
  • FOPP at 55 Cockburn Street. Welcome relief from the chainstore type shops. Sells music on CD only and also books. Prices for everything are fantastic. Nice round prices like £5, £8, £10, £15. Staff are friendly too. 10 out of 10!
  • uber disko goodfor tickets too
  • vinyl villains on elm row will sort you out with everything from spermbirds to nofx
  • -this has allready been mentioned a lot but if u want cheep music then go to fopp or avalance on cockburn st!!
  • Fopp, Avalanche, much cheaper and better than your HMV shit.
  • Avalanche of course, the only place where you can get decent priced CD's unlike the overpriced over stated shiteness that is Virgin and HMV, who couldn't even find their own backsides in a toilet let alone a reasonably current CD for you!
  • FOPP is absolutely top-class.....and the staff are friendly and knowledgeable, which makes a nice change.
  • Virgin Megastore and HMV are too expensive, instead go to Cockburn Street and check out the shops there - massive savings to be made on even the latest stuff.
  • Fopp is the best. But for intimidating dance music stores: Check out the ones on Cockburn Street.
  • For vinyl 23rd Precinct & Soul Sh'n (spelling!) in Cockburn Street.
  • Underground Solush'n - Quality vinyl shop (Techno, house, hip hop, jungle), these boys get all the new stuff and are also very friendly. Located at the bottom of Cockburn Street (down the road from FOPP)
  • Underground Solushn is currently situated underneath Whiplash Trash in Cockburn Street but shall be moving a few doors down to a streetlevel unit within the next couple of months. SSpecialising in US import house, deep, funky house from the UK and the finest underground hip-hop Underground have carved a niche for themselves in the Capital. If you can't find what you're after here never fear as 23rd Precinct is across the road and Fopp is just a few doors up. Support the independent retailers !!
  • Wall Of Noise - Just opened in Edinburgh down Leith Road - It has lot's of great cd's (indie, grunge, lo-fi, punk etc) but the vinyl selection is the best Ediburgh has at very reasonable prices
  • Avalanche Records - excellent range of new and second-hand CDs and some vinyl. Mainly indie and rock/metal/alternative. Lower prices than the main chains by quite a long way.
  • Bandparts Music Stores, 10 Antigua Street, probably the cheapest place for CDs and stuff in Edinburgh. Most CD albums at 10.99 incl new releases and chart stuff. CD singles from 99p. They'll also order up any back catalogue stuff you want though it does help if you know the label/order number. Do a mean deal on guitar strings too.
  • For record shops there is none better than FOPP. FOPP has just opened a new store up Coburn ST with the entire bottom floor devoted to vinyl, Cd singles at 1.99 and a good range of indie, techno.
  • Record Shak, South Clerk Street. Loads and loads of well priced second hand stuff all kinds of music. Lose yourself for a few days in here.
