Cheap Food in Ely, Cambridgeshire*

Corner eateries, quick bites and the local chippy

You can tell us more about Ely.

Cheap Food
  • three ruby houses, five chinese, kebab, pizza and a fried chicken takeaway.Do the idle women not cook in ely? forgot the four chippies ,sorry.
  • Absolutely the BEST chicken kebabs in the land are to be found at the Ely Kebab House in Market Street - you haven't lived til you've tried 'em!
  • Spice City do a great curry, Pizza Express do a great pizza (coincidence, i think not!) and there's KFC if you like that processed stuff. I have to say Ely Golf Club's resturant 'coz i waitress there...
  • USA Chicken, Pizza Express, Burger King (More out of town though)
  • That lovely Dominique's has closed down!! Now a Thai Restaurant which may or may not be ok.
  • Burger King - ok the staff need shooting but they are BUSY!!!! John Chinese Take Away on Newnham Street/opposite Atrium CLub. Kebeb House - if you want a fight.
  • You've missed out Dominique's - the best place to eat French food - the real thing! Cafe/bistro-ish during the day, restaurant in the evening. Open Weds-Sat (daytime and evening) Sun (day only) closed Mon & Tues.
  • The Old Fire Engine House - expensive but good food. Tables propped up with table mats - or yesterday's leftovers (?). In the Good Food Guide
  • Excellent lunch & tea time cafes attached to Cathedral (ie, usually located in crypt or cloister). Not only serve fresh homemade soups, breads, desserts & main entrees, but financially support the cathedral. You can get a good lunch or tea, and assist in the continuation of England's culture, architecture and heritage at the same time.
  • Ely Kebeb House (Market St) does excellent kebabs, also pizzas and burgers. The riverside area has several decent restaurants - The Boathouse and the Maltings Bistro are probably the best. Dominic's (St Mary's St) got an excellent review in the Sunday Times.
  • The Steeplegate Cafe. Possibly the finest Java in the fens. Ely's beautiful people and top celebrities are to be found here, munching on toasties at around 10:30 on a Saturday morning.
