I'm trying to trace some friends with whom I have lost contact over the years since I retired to Spain.
I'm hoping for some information about a Kenneth Lowe and/or his wife Irene who I believe may have run an hotel or hotels in the Felixstowe area. If either are still alive they will probably be in their eighties.
They had 2 daughters, Pamela and Sandra, both of whom will now be in their late fifties/early sixties. I do know that Pamela lived in the Felixstowe area as the last letter I can locate from her places her in High Street.
Any information would be a great help. ... more >>

Hi, my name is Monika Lentzen and I am searching for Phillipa Cracknell and her brother Robert. I stayed with the Cracknell family for nearly one year in 1959, when Phillipa was a little girl. I would very much like to find out how she and her brother are doing.

Thanks for your interest. Phillipa's and Robert's parents were Margeret and Bob Cracknell. He was a Navy officer. They used to live at 11 or 13 Waveney Road. Can't remember the exact address, as it is such a long time ago.
When I stayed with them, Margeret used to work at the Navy base.
Looking forward the some more news.

Hi, it's me again. As there was no feedback, I took the time to go back on this site and was ever so surprised, when I found a notice from a Phillipa Cracknell (Smith) dated 27th September 2002. I am quite sure, that it is the person I am looking for. Her Member Nbr. is 22452 and it seems that she left England in 1982 to USA. Now the question is, do I have to wait until she enters this site? which may happen sooner or later or never. Does anybody now her e-mail address? or perhaps her brother's? Any other idea? ... more >>

Thank you ever so much for your message re the Cracknells, although it is a sad one. I knew that Margeret died a long time ago but had hoped that Jim were still alive. Have no idea how to find Rob or his sister Philippa as I live in Spain and the "Knowhere Contacts.." is probably the only way.
Thanks again and best wishes for 2008.

I certainly know, who you are, as, once you left Germany we met again in Felixstowe. I am really excited to know from you after such a long time.
You ask about the Frosts, I am sorry to say, I don't know where or how they are.

| Felixstowe County Secondary School, pre-war
|
by Raymond Flavell (Member 10203065) on 18-Feb-2007
|
Hello Felixstowe!
My name is Rymond Flavell. I used to live in Garrison Lane, near the school, during all of the 1930s and I would welcome the chance to contact some of my old school friends. In my day the place was known as Felixstowe County Secondary School and members of our particular year would now be aged about 82 and still, I would like to think, in possession of their faculties.
As you may know, the school was closed during the war and the pupils were evacuated to some place in the Midlands. For family reasons I did not go with them and consequently lost touch.
I have managed to recall the names of over 40 of my former chums, among them being - Hans Morris (the headmaster's son), Douglas Tuddenham (sadly he was killed during the war), Mary Wheeler (whose parents kept a confectionary shop on the corner of Hamilton Road and Cobbold Roa), Anne Laycock (who, I believe, became Information Officer at the local Tourist Office), Eric Saward (Whose parents kept an umbrella shop in Hamilton Road) and, surprisingly, four lads, unrelated, named Smith - Colin (who became a bank manager I think), Fred, Tom (known to us as Ginger) and Willie. Oh, and Ifor Thomas, son of the geography master, a man who would let fly with the wood-backed board rubber at the first sign of anybody dozing off in class.
Still, they were happy days!
Any takers? ... more >>

Yes I remember you well and all the others you mention.I also remember the incident with Thomas and the board rubber.
I am now 83 and living at Cheltenham. Some way from the old town.
Very best wishes

Hello Tom,
How nice to hear from you. I was beginning to think that nobody ever looked at these messages because nothing ever seemed to change.
I stayed with genes reunited for a couple of years without a single match but, of course, the others would have classed the school in the Midlands as their final year and I didn,t know where that was.
We ought to have a chat sometime to compare notes. Are you in touch with anyone else?
We ought to be able to get the organisers to pass on an e mail without sharing it with the world outside. What do you think?
All the best

Raymond. Thanks for the reply.Iam not in touch with anybody in fact I only came across your message quite by accident. I did in fact attend a reunion about 15 years ago and met several people Hans Morris, John Birt, Napthine but after all this time we had very little in common.
Reunions I find are not a good thing.
We visited the town quite often up to about 5 years ago as I had a sister in law living there.
Unfortunately she died and we really have no reason to visit. Its also a hell of a journey frpm here.

Thanks Tom
I wish that I had known about that reunion 15 years ago. Even if I could not have attended it would have been nice to learn how some of my former friends had fared after the war. I would like to contact Hans Morris in particular; have you any idea where he might be now?
One thing you probably know which would be helpful is the name and location of the school to which our group was evacuated.
I hope that you are enjoying reasonably good health, Tom, and hope that you will continue so to do for a long while yet.
Best wishes

Hello Raymond,
I am the daughter of Ifor Thomas and the grand-daughter of the demon geography teacher you mention re the blackboard rubber incident! (Heh heh). Sadly my father passed away a few years ago - we all miss him terribly. He was a lovely man with a great sense of humour. He had served as a navigator in the RAF and during that period my brother (Douglas) and sister (Theresa) were born. When I came along some 16 years later (big surprise!) he left the RAF and qualified as a maths teacher, teaching at Thurleston School in Ipswich. He suffered a massive stroke in 1980 which left him paralysed down one side and unable to work again, but he made a remarkable recovery, all things considered, and went on to live a happy life for nearly another 25 years. My mother Joan still lives in Felixstowe and has just celebrated her 80th birthday. I would love to hear your memories of school days with my father and grandfather, please feel free to send me an email if you have time - barbiewyard@hotmail.co.uk. Best wishes. ... more >>

Oh and I have just seen that you mention Douglas Tuddenham !! He was my mother's brother (mother Joan Tuddenham - married Ifor). Yes he died in the war aged 19, a terrible tragedy, mum would have been about 14 at the time. My grandparents never got over it, Douglas was a pilot and was shot down. My parents named their own son after him. My mother would be overjoyed, I am sure, to hear your memories of Douglas.
