The Stuff We Can't Fit In Somewhere Else
- If the Avon is full of sh*t as one contributer who lives in Australia puts it, they will know what Aussie rivers are full of, and its worse than sh*t certainly a dam sight more toxic. As to fishing in Aussie rivers, no fish of any reasonable size swims in Aussie rivers, unless it happens to be what the Aussies call ferral fish ie Redfin Perch (English Perch) Carp etc. These they cull by blasting them with dynamite! What price the oft heard claim of the Aussies to be a land that cares for its environment. Come and live here and you will soon want to be back in Fordingbridge, or anywhere else for that matter. Oh! and as for whinging Poms, listen to any Aussie radio station and you will hear dinky-die Aussies whinging like hell all day, they could add this to their frequently misclaimed list of world beating capabilities! Certainly anglinng is not one of em, they can't get the practice in their fetted rivers, G-day

- No, it's true, the Avon is full of sewerage. I've been boating on it just upstream, at the back of Sandy Balls, and kept fishing out sh*t on the oars! Made me ill as well.
But don't let me stop you swimming in it, that wouldn't be CONSTUCTIVE!
- My Husband was born in Fordingbridge in 1952, and I grew up there from 1960ish. even though we now live in Australia, we have returned to fordingbridge and to us it is still home. Yes it's small, No the locals are not unfriendly, but they are proud so don't make silly remarks about them. Fordingbridge is a quaint English town, on the edge of the new forest. Most of us don't realise just how lovely it is until we leave.
- Whoever submitted the Paragraph 'Fordingbridge is not that bad. I have lived there for 18 years, but am now studying in Nottingham'
Sorry but you are talking absolute rubbish. If you did not get on with the locals it is probably your own fault and not the locals. There is a hugh amount of wealth in the area and not full of 'Poor' people! I have lived here for a long time now and know a huge amount of people. All towns have people with bad attitudes.
As for sewage in the river, what rubbish!!!
The river Avon is one of the cleanest rivers in the UK. The river by the bridge is a dangerous area and there have been several deaths and scores if people being injured by jumping from the bridge.
If you have nothing constrctive to say DONT BOTHER. If you have something constructive to say, MAKE SURE IT IS TRUE!
- Fordingbridge isn't that bad. I lived there for 18 years before going to Derby! Wow, Derby!!
Its good for Mountain Biking in the forest etc, and its proximity to Bournemouth and Southampton
is excellent, apart from that everyone is pretty friendly if they've lived there for years,
otherwise stay out of the way of newcomers!! Women, there are some yes! Men, there's some of them as well!
- Fordingbridge is not that bad. I have lived there for 18 years, but am now studying in Nottingham. The worse thing by far is the bad attitude of the people living in the town. They all act as though you owe them something. This is due to the fact that it is an old market town with relatively poor people, but tons of tourists due to the fact that it is near to the Forest, and the locals do not like them. Also, never swim in the river. People say it is dangerous because it is strong. Nonsense. It is dangerous because it is full of sewage.
- [BUT]: Thrilled to see my old home town mentioned on the Net. I was born there over 50 years ago and it doesn't seem to have changed much apart from the sewage in the river. It used to be safe to swim there! We plan to return for a trip in 18 months time.
- The recreation ground beside the Hampshire Avon is an attractive family venue in the summer for picnics. A medieval seven-arched bridge complements the setting. The library houses a locally crafted mural of the town. Fordingbridge is set on the edge of the New Forest, with a tourist holiday centre based at the Sandy Balls touring park. A note about the river: the Hampshire Avon is a fast flowing river which can produce good-sized trout, salmon, and excellent coarse fishing - the river is in fact clean enough to support a wide range of wild life and a local trout farm. The Avon Valley footpath passes through the town, on route from Salisbury to Christchurch.
