Hi there-I was just browsing through a few places on the knowhere site when I found Frankby. I was in the Seamens Orphanage at Hill Bark,Frankby from 1940 to 1947. During one of our infrequent outings to Greasby I think it was we were treated to a Pantomime or Variety show put on by the local Dramatic Society/Club. One of the members of the cast of this group was a Miss Dorothy Pemberton and she sang a duet with a gentleman on the stage. The song was called "Chewing a piece of straw" and as they were singing and chewing the straw, the straw was getting shorter and shorter until they inevitably kissed. This was close on 60 years ago so you would be about right with Dorothy's age. I would be interested to know if you do hear anything from or about her. Regards Pete Arthur. Kadina South Australia ... more >>

Hi Dorothy and Bob-just browsing through "Knowhere and noticed that you both had submitted replies since I had sent my message. Pleased to know that you two had made contact after all this time. Dorothy--do you remember that show you were involved in many years ago-and the song (duet) you sang called "Chewing a piece of straw. I notice Bobbie is from Queensland, just "up the road from us" in Kadina South Australia. Would be interested to know if you do remember the musical occasion. Take care of yourself-you too Bob. My email address if you feel like dropping a line is piparth@bigpond.com Regards Pete Arthur ... more >>

Hi my name is Tracy and my Mum Margaret Patricia Greenway was at the RLSO when it was at Hill bark Frankby at the same time as you. She was around 5 when she went after losing both parents. Her 2 brothers were sent to live with their Grandmother in Wales where my Mum grew up. She did not know she had brothers until she was 25 and only found and made contact with them approx 7 years ago! She left the RLSO 18/12/1948 she still has her bible from then. She is 77 years old now. Do you keep in contact with anyone and would love to hear your story on life at the Orphanage. Mum was never at Newsham Park.
Kind Regards
Tracy
