If you don't have CTCSS on your radio you won't be able to transmit to the gateway but you will still be able to listen in on Channel 7.

When the system is idle the gateway will play this voice message every 10 minutes identifying the gateway. This message was generated using The Festival Speech Synthesis System on Linux.

During the week the network is fairly quiet during the daytime with most activity taking place during the evening and at the weekend but if it is quiet call CQ, a lot of people are monitoring even if they're not talking...

There are just a few Do's and Don'ts that will help keep the network sane: Don't swear, don't use call or ring tones, do switch off 'roger beeps' if possible.

I arrived in Gosport in May 1971 knowing only my sister and her husband,who was in the navy. Managed to get a job at the Co-op in the High street, where I became great mate of Gray Bushell. He was the leader of a bike gang called the Warlocs and as I was from a biking background in Stoke-on-trent in the midlands we got on really well. The lads and girls started to go to Stoke for weekends of b oozing and soon my mates did likewise.We used the Millstone Pub in Burslem which is a town within Stoke-on-Trent. One time there were over 34 of us arriving in Stoke early Saturday morning,in those days pubs shut at 2-30pm but we had a club called the barons that stayed open all afternoon, then the pubs were open again. We used the Brittania pub in Gosport on Forton road, the castle,Queen Charlotte and the Fox. We had many happy times in a club called the Elite Club,and the Cafe next to the Ark Royal,I think it was called the Wee Cafe. People I remember from then are All the Warlocs,Big Julie Julie Reece,Dave Moth,Lyn Rawlings,Sue Inskip,Big Pete, Lanky tom. Friends from the Co-op include Rosemary Osborn,Cathy Wells,Carol Knight,Libby, Jenny Hood, Lesley Richards,Derek Porter(Houston) I got married to a Gosport girl Bo clarke, in 1975 but we divorced some time later, and I returned to Stoke in 1976.We had a daughter Sharon, I have not seen her since she was 7 years old, she will be 34 this year, if any one knows her I would love to hear from her SHARON ANN HOLDCROFT. I still try to get down to Gosport every couple of years to see old friends and still miss the good old days.If any of this rings a bell feel free to drop me a line.
