The place to go for a lazy afternoon, pub quiz or last call
You can tell us more about Gourock.
Pubs
- The "Old Wherry" on shore street, next to Gamble Halls.
- The Kempock..Possibley the smelliest, dirtiest pub in Gourock if not Inverclyde.
- The Vic....No need to say more.
- Well, the Cardwell Bar, used to be ok for the football but the owner gets grumpy if you drain your glass and dont immediately run to the bar for a refill. The Albert, deserves far more credit than it has been given on this board, been refurbed since i was last there so may be even better. The Wherrie and Monties, I would give the former a miss and stop for aquick one in Monties, cheap, but if your not collecting your pension by now you may be the youngest there by far! The MacGregor, run past, no sprint as fast as you can go! I've been in some shady boozers in my time, this one is up there with the worst of them! The Vic, excellent for a cheap dram though gets packed out for this reason, closes early (midnight) and on Sundays. The Kempock, truly the greatest juke box the world has seen, Arrols beer and Kempock Jim not to be missed. Cleats, decent bar where that the anklebiters frequent esp. downstairs. Occasional live acts and cocktail specials, avoid the Guinness however, poured poorly and tastes a bit rank. The Cafe oh the Cafe, we all love to hate it but go back every time anyway, salmon farm, meat market, continental drinks emporium however you describe it, it is probably by far the best gaff in the town. Nice views good selection of beer, also does coffee and food during the day. The place to be if youve had a few too many kebabs recently as you are bound to lose a few pounds of sweat on a Saturday as the air-con is crap and they packed them in solid to the door. The Spinnaker, worth the walk if you make it this far sober, good beer and whisky nice views and food and if one o clock isnt late enough you could always book a room and stay in the bar till dawn, or so i'm led to believe. The Firth, went for a while when the Cafe shut but it is generally frequented by neds, or was last time I was there anyway.
- "The Old Wherry" next to Gamble Halls.
- THE SPINNAKER HOTEL!!!!!!! BIG STU!!! THE BEST PUB IN TOWN WITH THE FITTEST BARMAIDS! BUT WATCH OUT FOR THE GILLIE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
- do cleats still do cocktails? remember being very pished on red witches (cider, vodka and balckcurrant) classy!
the kennedy steps
- The victoria bar is the only one worth visiting for great measures and a busy atmosphere.
- Giggles was great back in the 1980's... if you couldn't pull a burd in there then it was off to the Health Centre for a heid transplant...
- cleats is the best pub in gourock, but the bay was the best place in the world
- Cafe Continental features Gus DJing. This man is the biggest fattest cunt alive. Lives under the dellusion that people think he's a great DJ. He isn't. He is a cunt.
- The Vic. Still the same. Big measures, reasonable prices. Restaurant upstairs for the classy appetite. Pub described as the best thing in Gourock. The worst thing about Gourock... The Vic shuts on Sundays.
- Cafe. Big green drinks made using Gary's finest 'close your eyes and count to fifteen' shots.
- Has to be the Albert, just do not expect Paul to have enough curry crisps. A frequent complaint of Gourocks best known photographer Jim Sinclair.
- come to the PIMP palace Cleats where the columba boys go wild!! thats if u can stand the HUNS
- Young Gourock MOB Cleats is the place to be!!! mad mental mob!!! pure sound enat!?!? Cleats ideal for the cheap booze if u can stand the HUNS!!! anyways not bad wee place for picking up a bird ask Stephen Mooney and the Big Paul,Baz Chris, Martyn, Craigy, Dean and Big Coyes!! Oh an dont forget the lyle road pimp Marky BHOY!!
- That'll be Cleats then. If you're looking for a young ride. In fact you'd be as well just to hot-foot it to the taxi rank to get a shot of Ms Nadine
- The shmafe!
- CAFE CONTINENTAL - nice to see some classy imported beer, and talented glasslifters (or will be when they come of age... the girls, anyway)
CLEATS - immensely "fresh faced" crowd, 'cept Thursdays when us old codgers go down on Markie and Malkie(oo er missus)
KEMPOCK - Jimmy boy reckons he was a drummer, both for van morrison and cat stevens...sniff.... sniff .... shite...., minging pub anyway, don't let the regulars follow you into the toilets..
McGREGOR - ned city, but also frequented by the best band in all inverclyde, the pies, no, powderfinger, no eh, wait a minnit, eh, THE LAZARENKOS!!!!!!
THE SPINNY - barmaids.... mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.........
FIRTH - naw bad, but be sure to be noisy to scare the hotel guests away so you can have the run of the place..
- The Firth - great views but why !
- Big Flossy oot the Kempock, What a man, serves strange spurious beer, but keeps a magic
Juke Box in the corner, I once spent my drum kit money in there £700.00, and still
suffering, Davy, Big Stu, Lairdy & Jimmy.Cheers Jim.
- Gourock has more pubs per square metre than any other town on the planet. or so it seems. In the drier months, you've got to do a wee pub crawl. At weekends though, it's the Vic, Cleats and mostly the Cafe.
- The Ocean Bar and Under the pier
- cleats and it's new "fresh faced" crowd after ricos has almost shut down
- Cleats is by far the best, the firth is by far the worst, but its always a good laugh starting at the battery and working ur way along
- the contrast from upstairs and downstairs in cleats, up- old, down- fresh faced!
- I love Cleats and on a sunday night the Macgregor is the place to be the Gaels are mad!!!It like being in a movie""HAHA""
- Cleats and there 2 "cafe" glasses, one of them is mine!!!!!!!
- The Albert Hotel.....Keep up the good work Paul & Trish
- CLITS oh yes apparantley this is thee place to go if you are a 6th year in a gourock school! Not that its tempted me.
- Saturday night,Cloch hotel(1973 onwards) great place for a beer(waitress service).22.00 hundred(the pubs/clubs shut, before the chip shop then!on to the'RED DRAGON' Magic.Best huddle you ever had, lots of dancing(and winching on the floor)(maybe my group of mates only(:o)the "DRAGON" finished dead late....02.00....
- Kempock. Jim's the top man with all those 70's pictures of him playing the drums hanging up inside the pub. A good juke box with some real music on it. Not too good on Draught pints but who cares!
- CLEATS ........SCARY GREEN MONSTERS!!
THE MCGREGOR ....THURSDAY NIGHT QUIZ
THE ROYALLE GOOD FOR A CHEAP DRINK
THE VIC ALWAYS BUSY
- What happend to "the locker"?

Do a pub crawl!The quality,..
The Cardwell Okay in the summer, for the >25 year olds?
The Albert pretty awful apart for the seperate room with the bell for service.
Get your beer delivered through a hatch in the wall!
Monteith Similar to the Albert, good pub crawl stop off!
MacGregor Similiar to the Albert & Monteith if anything somewhere you Granpa & Nana may go for a drink
But also worth a stop on a Pub Crawl.
The Vic - Great! Packed at the weekends! 1/4 Gill measures hand poured with the cheap prices.
Stop here for a while.
The Kempock, okay, usually overlooked but worthy of a mention.
Cleats.. Upstairs 25-40 year olds, Downstairs the youngest around.
Good pub plus the owners (Daisy Brothers) love keeping everyone happy, free pies when big matches on.
Better on a Friday night than Saturday.
The CAfe has gone, this was the best pub in town. Marble floors & Bar. Solid Brass.
Great Music, younger generation, Toilets awful!?
Truely a contintal Bar- Hopefully to re-open!
The Spinnaker Another Great pub small beer garden, good food, one of the best views in Scotland.
The Firth Similair to the Spinnaker not as Classy!
Royal Gourock Yatch Club- members only, good beer fantastic setting.
Gantaock Stakis Hotel, out of town and Hotel guests only no locals. Crap!
- The now shut down Cafe et Continental.
Due to dodgy dealings in the Gourock underworld, our one time Gourock junior social club has now been closed.
What the fuck do we do now I hear you cry.
Well our temporary swally residence over the last few weeks has been that old favourite, The Firth Hotel.
Although it is pish, it is somewhere to go whilst we await the resurrection of our beloved Cafe.
The Firth has been known to host some shady characters, however if you get enough mates to fill it, who gives a shit what wideo bastards congregate in it.
- The Kempock should be the best hangout in Gourock it has a fantastic juke box, cheap booze and drink straight from the can option.
- All of them from The Cardwell to The Firth (OK The Spinnaker).
- Cleats, the barmaids, say no more (down boy). And its a cool cheap pub.
- tonnes of them all within walking distance of each other...so you'll have a job trying to do them all in one night...
- Gourock Pub Crawl (Starting from Battery Park end):
Cardwell Inn; Pretty quiet these days but does food.
Albert Hotel; New owners and cheap drink, meeting point to go to the footie (HOME teams i.e. Morton and Scotland!!!).
The Wherry Tavern; Home of The Dream team and Ted, thick skin a must!(but decent measures)
Monty's; Another 'drinkers' pub.
McGreggor; What was once the Darroch, pretty good.
The Vic; Possibly the busiest pub in town, cracking measures.
Cleats; On the corner, don't forget the basement.
Kempock; Don't know much about this, but you should have a drink in them all!
Cafe Continental; Making a real effort these days, lots more on.
The Spinnaker; Just expanded, a great wee spot.
The Firth; Another with fairly new management, lets hope no more dodgy pub singers!!
If that isn't enough to get you drunk include the clubs on the way;
Torpedo Factory workers,
Ex-Servicemans,
Royalle.
- The Cafe Continental, Kempock St. Tuesdays is the Quiz, Wednesdays is the Acoustic Club
Thursdays is...I cant quite Remember, Fridays we have LOOP (Great night),
Saturdays is Saturdays, Sundays is Smoothe! Drinks promos every night.
The Cafe will be online soon!
- The Cafe Continental- posers
Cleats-not bad but lots of young
- Cafe - a poser joint with a mission to be the best! hahahaha
- The Cardwell, Victoria Bar.
- The Vic is good.
- Cleats for cheap drinks. The Vic and the MacGregor for big measures. The Firth to dance (and to get skint) Cafe for underagers Kempock for old men The Albert and the Cardwell for pub lunches.
- The Kempock Bar - Best juke box in town!
- Cleats, Cafe Continental (both good on a Friday/Saturday night)
- Cleats Bar Room otherwise known as F.C. by the regulars
- Café Continental in Kempock Street comes highly recommended!
