- During the last years of WW2, three bombs were dropped by a single German aircraft close to 2 miles from the village.If you walk to the end of the wagonway from Front St.,and go to the T intersection (junction) at the Priory,turn right and go to the top of the bank.Down in the water there is a small crater,as well as the opposite side of the gorge where there was an open cast coal mine, another one.The third was in the entrance way to what was once private property to the right.Anyone in Lumley remember this? It's true!
- London for 5 yrs with the Met.Police. came to Canada and spent 34yrs in the Toronto Police service, and am now retired.
Lumley is far from being isolated and if you feel YOU are do what we young folks did, go out and better yourselves and stop moaning and groaning about the things you don't have and should have. So chatter boxes speak up and let's form a chorus. your moans and groans can be heard this far away. Good Luck
