The Best Things in Guildford, Surrey*

If you're around, be sure to check these things out

You can tell us more about Guildford.

The Best Things
  • Although I live about 10 miles away from Guildford, I try to visit it when I can as it is much prettier and has more of a local identity than glorified suburbs like Camberley, Woking, or Staines. I also find most people in Guildford to be friendly and quite relaxed compared. There may well be lots of obnoxious rich idiots in Guildford but if they exist they tend to stick to their trendy wine bars and restaurants. Even the 'chavs' in Guildford are usually pretty friendly and reasonable. I never feel unsafe in Guildford. Best of all are the proliferation of obtainable/attainable cute rich girls, and if that fails, there's the student population.
  • The teenagers are a proper good bunch [;
  • rish girls
  • teenage scene on friday nights, ace!!!!!
  • friendly pubs, pretty well policed at night time
  • sighnholders, the one man band bloke, brenda the bearded lady, the shops, skateboarding, plant, gigs
  • GHS
  • Us!GSA students
  • skatepark!!! BEARDED LADY. tegan. plant (although it gets boring) THE GRAVEYARD. sophie.
  • The Superdrug staff
  • we punks look scary and weird but actually we're lovely coz we're always stoned...the pikeys can't handle their marijuana
  • Cheap, all ages shows promoted by people that don't do it for the money, just for the scene.
  • erm........nope.....nothing sorry
  • Visitng highest sunday morning congrgation in England 'are they feeling guiltly?'
  • ALL THE PUNKS AND ROCKERS. MY BEST M8S VINCE CARROL, GEORGE CHANNING, ADRIAN, ALEC AND SIMON! i love u guys......
  • The madman who wears the army hat, and talks to all the passers by about killing people in the war!
  • Yate's, Bridge Street!!
  • Orlando Jewellers - Lots of yummy jewellery, big rocks, classy stuff and modern trendy peices, well worth a visit. nice staff. Everyone in Guildford is friendly - people smile here!
  • Probably the best town in Surrey (and there are a lot of great towns in Surrey).
  • basically everything. Its a great street spot, packed with benches, ledges, curbs, rails, stairsets and every thing really
  • The talent!
  • Surrounding country side is lovely. I grew up about 8 miles outside Guildford at Grafham (after Bramley village on the way to Cranleigh). I now live in the caribbean (I know how arsey that sounds!) and I've been about a bit, but I still think that the Surrey countryside is one of the nicest places you could hope to live in.
  • GUILDFORD IS OVER ALL A GREAT LAUGH . RIKI Lowther
  • Unearthing hidden corners...
  • The closeness of the surrey country side, the old buildings - easy pub crawls - the canal...
  • Guildford gets a bit tedious when youve lived there all your life, but it gets more interesting as you meet new people. Plus your only a small train journey from london and all the wonderful little villages around surrey which hide some seriously funny night life.. eg godalming, horsely.. (yes where there is Budgins)
  • The best thing about Guildford is the entire Homebase posse!!!
  • Bo's on cheap nite's, familiar faces, old friends, new friends, the mount, Shere, the shopping, Bar Med, Edwards, CR's, a reasonable safe place to get pissed, Tim (the pizza express waiter!!), fit men altogether, Colours, fast acces to London and some beautiful countryside.
  • Plenty of pukka bars just a shame there is no proper clubs as yet
  • The lighting effect used by Edward's bar. Not far from Slough.
  • The Chuckle Brothers come to Guildford every year which is brillinat!
  • The Guildford Fisherman. Ususally seen in KFC at the top of the high street each evening.
  • Cobbles - you don't see them much elsewhere. Train link to London.
  • Secret Place and Racks Close- best atmosphere for us.....love it Collectors Records too, my other favourite place
  • The ladies
  • Cobbles
  • The very best thing about Guildford is the 14-18 yr old rich kids that embrace the hippy/goth culture (ie hang around in East West) and sit in rows along the wall up by Tunsgate, pretending to be poor and/or homeless. They return home when Mummy arrives in the Volvo. Although this happens in many of Britain's better off towns, I think Guildford has perhaps the best collection.
  • The underground scene, small but perfectly formed.
  • The architecture / environment - the view from the High Street of the fields on the hills opposite must be one of the most pleasant in the UK. Also try the river for boat hire etc on a hot afternoon.
  • Drinking - try Rogues a tiny but lively bar at the upper end of the High Street. It gets a bit full of estate agents but when it's packed on a Friday night you can't help but meet people!
  • I think Rogues is no more. Add Scruffy Murphys - during the summer on the river bank The White house - ditto The King's Head (Stoke Road) all year round) great food great beer (Fullers) and a beer garden with live music Thursdays (Sort of Van Morrison esq)
  • The variety of skate spots around like the Youth Club (fat steps, small steps, big noseslide curbs and blocks.)
  • Pubs - have completed the "Thirty Challenge" (30 pubs around the centre of Guildford - a half in each half in one day from 11.00 - 23.00). Great shopping.
  • Great surrounding countryside - some of the nicest "Shire" scenery around, with rolling downs, village pubs, cricket greens, etc.
  • Hanging baskets.
  • Castle Grounds.
  • The heart of Guildford lies with the parks - the Quarry, Racks Close etc.. This is where the real youth of Guildford live.
  • Cafe Toto, quite expensive but nice and quiet. Another point in it's favour is that hardly any garies go in there.
  • It's easy to get to London and you can wander about absolutely ratarsed and still not get into too much trouble.
  • River, stoke parks roundabout,
  • The surrounding countryside is a great place to get away and think.
