Live Music Venues
  • Backline Live the new 300 capacity live music venue in Guildford just 2-3 mintues from Guildford main line station completely revised layout and great sound quality... Live music 5-6 nights a week with two bars and a great selection of drinks open until 2.30am seven nights a week... Situated under the Farnham Rd bridge in two railway arches...
  • The Boileroom Guildford www.theboileroom.net
  • The Grantley Arms,The Street, Wonersh,Surrey Live music every bank holiday sunday
  • Waterloo is about half an hour on the train so best gigs are worth travelling to. In guildford the 2 main venues are The Star (live and loud bar) and The Boileroom, the boileroom is the newest venue and has a pretty decent rig inside of it, live music or dj's ost nights of the week and cinema club on a sunday, only downer is it's a bit expensive for drinks. The star has cheaper drinks but the sound isn't the best. Gigs also go on in Backline studios now and then, Planetation Cafe do all ages gigs every other friday and you occaisionally see events at the Electric Theatre
  • The BOILEROOM is a very cool new venue in the town www.theboileroom.net
  • Plantation Cafe - Greebo Cafe for 13-24's. Most guildfordians in their youth spend most of their lives there. Gigs every other friday The youth center - just NO, it's full of private school kids on gig nights. Getting wa**ered on a couple of wkd's & taking down their la perla panties behind the dustbins.
  • Cranleigh Arts Centre, for Jazz, World Music, Blues etc Electric Theatre has some cool acts on.
  • Kershaws house
  • The Star always used to have some happenin stuff going on in the back room (!?)
  • kids go down to the youth center, you can hire out the place for your own gig if you like aswell, lots of alternative teenagers. same as plantation cafe, gig nights on every other friday: recentley they've been getting some really good bands in there, some ska, punk, hardcore, screamo...just nothing gentle really.
  • Backline Studios is putting on gigs for unsigned bands on fridays and Saturdays Small cozy venue thats accomodates upto 80-100 people.
  • The star (pub) has some good gigs - just local bands mainly but good and it's a friendly atmosphere.
  • oh also plant every other friday nite. And the star pub when they decide to let under 18s in!
  • the youth club
  • The Star had Reel Big Fish a while back - one of my favorite bands, therefore the Star is a gd venue
  • Peel in Kingston is great. Pews has good bands but you will feel over dressed what ever you wear. Kings Head in summer out side is ok.
  • The Live & Let Live (Haydon Place) lives up to it's name as the acclaimed American bluesman COLIN JOHN (fresh from Scandanavian tour) will play his only UK gig there on 21.04.04 - at 20.30hrs - Miss it, Miss out!
  • guildford youth centre (near pizza hut) plantation cafe (every other friday night) civic hall - red dog night (now postponed till further notice)
  • Bluetones down Jeffries Passage (oo er) have live music. Also the Robin Hood, up the top of town.
  • hi just saw your site while looking for venues outside our own areas - occured to me that Gfd is probably ready for some development I know it a little, can'tunderstand why there are no good gigs there. Stop moaning and do something?
  • Guildford Songwriters Night meets once a month, currently in Robin Hood, Sydenham Rd. They also have bands on other nights [mainly blues]. It's small but very musician friendly. Find listings for GSN in NuSmell fanzine in pubs and shops all over Guildford.
  • The White Lyon at Worplesdon. Electric jam sessions every Thursday night from 8.00 p.m. Live Music Every Friday and Saturday. Acoustic Jam Sessions the first and third Tuesday of each month.
  • The White Lyon at Worplesdon. Great Jam sessions every Wednesday. Bands on Friday & Saturday nights.
  • The White Lyon at Worplesdon
  • Royal Oak in sydenham road has an excellent resident classical guitarist called Dave, he plays once a month. Also a good chance to catch the very talented bar staff singing along.
  • The White Lyon at Worplesdon. Wednesday night Jam sessions, Thursday night acoustic jams, Friday and Saturday night live bands and every first Saturday of each month a comedy club.
  • plantation and that places down jefferies passage
  • The G-Town Thrash Centre. All ages gigs are the way forward.
  • the student union club fetish nights bring a friend
  • PLANTATION and The Star (reel big fish played there a few months ago)
  • The White Lyon at Worplesdon has loads of live music and jam sessions on (at least five events a week) ... as all other live venues seem to be closing down it would appear to be the up and coming live venue in the area .... check out their gig guides or visit their website!
  • Blue Tones
  • The Star Plantation (if its a mates band) Backline (apparently)
  • Rugby club has a great bar and great gigs with bands like racing green, lame excuse and texas hold 'em!!! (GREAT BANDS)RIKI Lowther
  • go down to pews, chapel street for the NRG wednesday its a great laugh and blatently full of the sexiest DJ's in town, playing some of the best hard trance and techno tunes you'll find. The nite kicks off around 8 and its FREE ENTRY, cheap and cheerful always guarentees a good time
  • Badgers bar is pretty good - in Jefferies passage (hehe).
  • the civic but only if decent bands decide to visit, other wise get on the train and go to london.
  • Civic. Guildford 20** whatever date...ect
  • Plantation cafe has all the local talent and civic hall has had REEF and other similar bands.
  • Plantation Cafe has a lot of local stuff (i know a few guys who play weekdays) and Civic centre hosts gigs occasionally.
  • Has anyone ever seen a real punk band down Plantation except for MAIA, Winner and Goober Patrol. Its all Green Day rip off bollocks. And the DJs a wanker too.
  • If you are in Cranleigh on a Thursday night, go off the main road and down Summerlands a little and listen for the sweet sound of noise. The noise eminating from a garage. The noise eminating from a garage band. They are quite cool and usually quite welcoming if you knnock on the door. But trust me, if you walk down Summerlands, you will find them!
  • Lion Brewey, Guildford Rd, Ash. Blues Jam every Thursday 21.00-23.00. Backline supplied, bring your own, git's, stix
  • Plantation Cafe in Market Street is getting better. Gigs last year included the very fantastic Monkey Island, off the wall weirdos Monkey Boy and the wirey pop of Fantasmagroover. Go and support your local scene!
  • Plantation Cafe does different events/gigs each month, check out their flyers.
  • Plantation Cafe does a punk night on the first friday of the month (run by me... wooooo). Goober Patrol & Winner have played there and Tribute To Nothing and Consumed r on soon too. The Civic hall has bands like Ash n' stuff like that every now and again
  • civic hall....electric theatre, but their only splatch and thats now moved to woking and it's shit anyway. redwood are always there and they suck except for one song (falling down) and then sattellite beach ROCK!!! see them when you can. i met the singer and he was pretty cool.
  • Pews Wine Bar in Chapel Street has excellent DJ run nights including Dub, Drum and Bass, and alternative nights. On Thursdays the alternative night is very open music policy with the DJs inviting you to bring down your own vinyl/CDs/Mini Discs. An excellent prelude before going to the alternative night at The Loft (Bojanglez)
  • The Civic Hall was known for Splatch!, the local alternative music scene's showcase. Underage drinking put off the older, more serious crowd and alarmed the powers-that-be and so the event has now been moved to Woking. The Civic is trying to revamp its image, and recently hosted Spititualised and Shed Seven. Other than that, Guildford's pretty devoid of decent live venues IMHO. It's better to try the Maltings at Farnham, the Shed Club at Aldershot or the Agincourt at Camberley. Woking has a few decent bands now and then (Portishead played a "secret" gig at the HG Wells suite not so long ago).
  • Civic Hall London Road (poor choice of bands, except for the occasional Splatch evenings), plus pubs for local bands.
  • The only decent gigs in town are at the University of Surrey Students' Union (the Civic's crap). Sunday nights are good for up-and-coming bands and it's free to get in (you'll need to be signed in by a member if you haven't got an NUS card).
  • The Stoke Hotel puts on a lot of punk gigs run by Caffeine Mega Corp. Check in Heaven Sent to see when the next one is.
