• Did you know they are thinking of putting a mc donalds in hadleigh - this is a very bad idea. It will add to the stench of chip fat already coming from the Waggon and horses.
• The pagan thing is quite big under the surface in Hadleigh. Local spook mentalists Andrew Collins and David Southwell seem to know a lot about it's history, especially about local historical 'wise man' Cunning Murrel.
• In the mid 80s, the whole of Hadleigh was invited to 'The Affair Club' - a former Colchester nightclub. It seemed a good idea at the time until the guy who organized it refused to let the show continue until one of the locals stepped onto the dancefloor to take part in a silly game. Nobody wanted to and there was an embarrassingly L-O-N-G pause until the D.J. diplomaticaly turned the hosts microphone off and played something to dance to!
• I’d forgotten about the pagans in Hadleigh… the subject of much childhood playground chat. They’re not very apparent, though, tremendously secretive. I wish they would “come out” a bit more, it would liven up a very dull, very quiet town.
• Hadleigh has the distinction of a rich pagan heritage and was the only village in England to stone the Witch-Finder General Matthew Hopkins when he turned up to peddle his victimisation of anyone with any association with the old religon. Whether this sensible attitude would be adopted today is open to debate.
