The Stuff We Can't Fit In Somewhere Else in Hamstreet, Kent*

The Stuff We Can't Fit In Somewhere Else
  • New shop in Hamstreet - Butterfly beauty therapy. Located in the old antique shop.
  • How about some Christmas lights criss-crossing the High Street this year? The Chocolate Box have put on a good light display and I'm sure the Duke's Meadow illuminations will be as good as ever, but some proper lights like they have in Charing would be great. Bring round a hat, I'll contribute!
  • Agree with thoughts on this site about Hamstreet needing to attract more tourists. This village has loads of history from the canal to the coming of the railway. It is famous for the Royal Mail stamps thing, and has protected woodlands all around it. Yet there is no plaque for visitors to find all this out, anywhere. B&B status is questionable. Opening hours of some shops are undefined, and at Christmas we have no lights across the High Street. The removal of Hamstreet from amny local signs isn't going to help either, plus it is simply insane that you can buy tax discs from the visiting post office in Ruckinge, yet not fromt the established post office that opens for long hours in Hamstreet. Come on. It's a great place to live but it rarely gets its due reward.
  • Some villages up north retain an upbeat feel even on dull days by criss-crossing their main street with bunting. Just an idea - how about some christmas lights across the High Street this year though? (They do this in Charing).
  • Wot, no new signs for Hamstreet in Tenterden, New Romney, Lympne...? Come here anyway - it's not THAT bad!
  • 6 months advance notice: Can we have some nice Christmas lights over the High Street this year, like they have in Charing. Why not?
  • Let's get this village back on some signs, back on the map and make it attractive to visitors. Why on earth can't the canal towpath cycleway be extended west of West Hythe dam and run all the way to Rye/Cliff End? It would be completely flat, very attractive and popular just as those converted rail lines in Sussex are. We could then have an off road cycle link to Hamstreet and its station. Our village would benefit from much-needed tourists too.
  • How about a few rows of Christmas lights over the High Street this year, a bit like they have in Charing? Let's get this village back on the map, back on some signs and encourage a few visitors. My suggestion is that the canal towpath be converted into a cycleway as has been done from Seabrook to West hythe dam. Then we can have an off-road cycle link into the village, and great, flat, tranquil rides that don't involve going on the A2070!
  • How about some nice Christmas lights across the High Street this year?
  • Ashford Advertiser is the only free paper that bothers to come out this far. Broadband cables run through the village but are not connected. No gas - does anybody want it?
  • Use the local shops and the trains and you will have a prper village that is a pleasure to live in for many years to come.
