The Knowhere Guide

The Worst Things in Hamstreet, Kent*

The entirely missable and worth mentioning because of it

You can tell us more about Hamstreet.

The Worst Things
  • Update: we now have brand new trains with electric doors, etc. Very comfortable.
  • Update to message below - Hamstreet now has brand new, air conditioned, tinted windowed, comfortable trains. If you haven't used 'em yet, give them a try!
  • wel its hamstreet wot more can u c. okok so i spose its a break from ne mayhem :oS but i gota say i think theres more life in a fish
  • Judgemental Cynics.
  • Apparently the mobile post office has tax-discs so much smaller villages with no post office at all can get them - weird isn't it? Hamstreet vanishing from many road-signs isn't good for the village either.
  • There's not a lot for cyclists here. If you want to bike to Ashford you have a choice of two main roads. Lots of people would like to see a rideable track along the canal bank like they have in Hythe and a connecting route into Hamstreet. Come on - sort it out!
  • Trains that don't connect at Ashford or run after 10.20pm. (visit mlag.org).
  • Let's get Hamstreet back on the map and back on some signs. We should be a secondary destination like Charing and Sellidge, not an obscure backwater!
  • No petrol. No kebab shop.
  • Apathetic villagers with large salaries that say it isn't viable for them to use the local stores. Try it!
  • The fact that you cannot buy petrol, diesel or car tax here, and that the train service is often unreliable. The operator keep promising improvements but we are still waiting for something as basic as an information screen - what hope is there of new trains and an improved timetable if they won't even do this!
