Pubs in Hanworth, Middlesex*

The place to go for a lazy afternoon, pub quiz or last call

You can tell us more about Hanworth.

Pubs
  • The Swan, Everything else has gone.
  • The best ones are all shut down.
  • The Swan, If you are not local I would stay well away, Ever watch A warewolf in London.
  • Since the sailer and Oxford Arms were shut down, The Swan seems to be where the Drunks go.
  • The Jolly Sailer and the Oxford Arms were the best. The Doom and Gloom was terrible, It was more of a youth club in the 90's.
  • Not only did the Oxford Arms (In the days of Alex and Peggy) have the best darts team around, (i think i still have some trophies somewhere) with players like Jim Kimber (best left hander ive seen) who beat Bobby George at the Airman, Little Bill (carried his darts in a holster on his hip) John Charles, Alan Wilder (he was a big lad), Simon Goddard (Later to be nick-named fish by John Sparrow who took over from Alex and Peggy), we have forgotten what made the Oxford Arms great,,, Herbie the piano Player.
  • Remember the Horse & Groom--started going there when I was 14-never had a problem getting served! Oh and the Hanworth Carnival Circa 1970-1971.
  • Apart from the old Brown Bear public house who housed one of the most prolifick darts team ever led by the infamous Tommy Barrett & Alf Wilder was the pub over the road run by Alex & Peggy the Oxford Arms,Billy Ripley,Alan Childs,Alan Wilder, Phil Dyte,Brian & Colin Reese to name a few which took over the land mark of the Brown Bear all those years ago when some-one decided to pull down the Bear and build a motorway, Great memories lie around this land mark, the people of Hanworth where in abundance attending Hanworth carnival at Bear park which again was moved to Hanworth Airpark due to its popularity, Hanworth is still full of memories and its charaters, Oh to go back in time to see the people I spent my younger days with and throw a dart to win the Hampton & ditrict league trophy.
  • The New Moon gets a young lively crowd in. I'd avoid the Swan, a lot of fights seem to happen there and taxis won't even go there.
  • Beware the Doom n Gloom!
  • Horse & Groom has become an OK pub since barratts took it over, swans still got dodgy clientele.
  • I see the New Moon got a mention, but what about the Half Moon that was pulled down to make way for it.
  • The original Swan pub, (with Les & Kathy Witham), Summer nights into the off licence, buy sweets and coke, then into the beer garden.
  • Brown Bear pub, should never have been pulled down, best sea food in the area.
  • Lovley Canadian bar staff
  • horse and groom enter thru' doors exit by windows
  • The Horse & Groom, Hampton Road West used to have a serious bad reputation with managers in the early 90's going after a few months. But, the good news is after a lack of customers in the past and regular punch-ups, it's now a better and brighter pub. But more so suited to Hanworthian's, because outsiders will probably feel they don't fit in. You're see what I mean if you ever go in there after 6pm. But overall a nice enough pub. Hanworth's other two pubs are at the other end of town in Main Street. The Swan and The New Moon are both reasonably good.
