The Stuff We Can't Fit In Somewhere Else
  • If you are old enough to remember jobs dairy in the 60s, it was me and two friends who carried them bloody heavy cows across the road and lined them up at the bus stop.
  • Hanworth people have self respect.
  • It was good enough for King Henry the 8th, It's good enough for me!!!
  • Hanworth has a rich history, The place deserves a little respect.
  • Hanworth can still claim to be a village, Even though it is in London, There is still a community feeling to the place.
  • Hanworth does have it own lingo.
  • Building I Miss Hythe Farm on Main Street was a beautiful building - proper old country farm house, tudor, but the *developers* got in there and ripped the roof off and made sure it could not have a protection order on it before anyone knew what was happening. There are now 8 tiny boxy houses where it used to be.
  • Plant life. Hanworth used to be a big Market garden/nursery land area. If you search you can still find lots of trees, bushes and wild berries around. I've found Sloe, Damson, blackberry, raspberry, elderberry, rosehip, sweet chesnut, apples and cherrys all free for the picking. I know there are some rare orchids here too, I won't say where because I don't want them damaged. But for the true observer of this kinda stuff I'm sure they can find out.
  • I was born in Hanworth in 1940, my mother was born there in 1913, my grandfather was born there also in 1892. It seemed I was related to most of the residents of Hanworth. Anyone want to try me with names, places or memories ?? E-Mail...johnd23786219@aol.com
  • Famous People: Keith Leggett who became one of the Black and White Minstrels. He now lives in NZ.
  • The rivalry between Hanworth & Hampton, usually on the rugby fields, (by way of the alley in South road)
  • On the Hanworth/Whitton Borders - the old Feltham Marshalling Yards - Soon to open is one of the largest Royal Mail Centres in the UK. The size of two football pitches on two floors.
  • Hanworth has a great deal of history from Anne Bolynn right through to WWI. Hanworth Park before 1925 used to be London Air Park way before the days of Croydon Aerodrome, Heston and Heathrow Airport. Even the Great Zepellin landed there and another rumour as it, an American bomber crashed landed there during WWII. Speaking of crashes, this is 100% true. During an airshow in the early 30's, a plane actually crashed killing it's pilot in nearby Uxbridge Road. Lastly, Hanworth just doesn't have the rumoured ghost of Anne Bolynn. But in an area affectionaly known as 40-acres, there's a dark tunnel on the old part of Feltham Marshalling Yards, in where you can hear a mini driving and the screams of a woman as the car crashes. Bulls*it or true? Maybe you want to find out...
