The Best Things in Harlow, Essex*
If you're around, be sure to check these things out
You can tell us more about Harlow.
The Best Things
- the people are the best thing about harlow, there are lots for kids to do, youth clubs, dance, drama ,football, soft play, swimming.( there is nothing to keep the kids of the streets in north london) and how green harlow is, there nothing better than waking up and looking out on to green fields and trees.
- The cycle network, when it isn't over-run with brain-dead mothers with toddlers, school kids and dog walkers, who seem not to understand that the cycle track is dangerous until they get knocked over, and if you don't mind avoiding all the broken glass strewn across the tracks between friday and monday mornings.
- The woodland in Parndon Wood
The tramps here are cool

- Learning how to look after yourself, The cycle tracks, The Town Park, Learning how to look after yourself, The easy birds.
- Reaching the age of 18, finishing your A-levels (as many as three people from Harlow attain A-level passes per annum), getting a job and having enough money to move somewhere - anywhere - else.
Hang around any of the "hatches" - small shops selling things like girly mags, discounted lager and crack - if you wish to marvel at the intellect of mothers who believe that punching a child is the most effective way to stop it crying.
- Its quite easy to travel into London by train. The train servie from Harlow Town is pretty good. Also not many towns can boast 2 train stations. The original Harlow (OLD HARLOW), is quite a nice place to live, most places are quiet and a lot of the buildings date back many years. If you like fast food then wherever you live in harlow there is somewhere within a stones throw.
- The River Stort is beautiful at any time of year
- Franky, Uptown CLub, Totty
- Like Neil Young once said "And in my mind I still need a place to go. All my changes were there". Despite all its warts, past and present, I still have a great fondness for the old place. I lived there in the 60's and 70's as a child and teenager and still go back once or twice a year. Many, many memories...
- Harlow Museum, green spaces (when not covered in litter and dog poo by unappreciative people, who then blame the Council for not clearing it up), a fantastic selection of some really good sculpture
- all the cool rockers!!! go team! woop!
- he bits of countryside
- being able to leave!!!!
- Every one wants to have a good time in harlow, you get trouble but you get that every where, no one takes themselves too seriousley and its cool to be like that, ok so we have our fair share of dickheads but what would we laugh about if we didnt, oh and what is wrong with being a single mum by the way, they are hard working and deserve to go out and enjoy themselves when they can, some of the people who commented at the beggining are stuck up
- Harlow altogether!!!! When you move away you rearlise it ain't that bad, I even miss the graffetied bus stops, they don't look normal if they are clean!!
The people in Harlow are nice! Well compared to the imbreds that exist in the farming capital of the world where i now unfortunatly live. I love Harlow that much I am gonna come back. Oh and Harlow has DECENT shops, all you people moaning are only moaning cos your comparing it to London. STOP! One more thing, I miss and love the Harlow accent, I get so much stick for having it where i now live!

- lots of skate spots and skaters, funny people and quite good scenery.
- Having been born and bred in Arlow i recently spent 3 years living in Wales. All is not so bad in Arlow you know, save for the rubbish and noisy yob culture,it's good to have local shops and services which we all take for granted. It's not always greener on the other side you know!!
- The town park in the summer - especially if they've got a big fair, circus or some sort of charity event going on. its nice to sit outside the greyhound and drink an alcoholic beverage!

- Town Park - original Staple Tye - cycle tracks - Water Gardens - meeting under The Clock - Town Pool (before the tubes) - innovative housing design - Henry Moore statues.
- Unlike other towns I have lived in there are/were loads of outdoor concrete paddling pools dotted around the town!
- Actually Mark Appollo is a shit DJ and his real name is Mark Corbett but he is from Harlow. However, does not like to remember this and now resides in London up his arse somewhere
- Parking - there is plently of spaces in numerous car parks throughout the town centre, even on a Saturday close to Christmas you can get a space
- What?!?!?!?!?!
- Good, cheap shops, lots of green areas, near London and the Essex countryside. The sculptures.
- hanging at the square with the smell of W**D in the air and your mates bouncing around with you to the sound of metallica or the 'pistols!
- the ramp meet some pros and good guyes hell yeah skate and destroy
- DJ Franky and Uptown Club Entertainments - loyal to the town for over 20 years
- The people. In spite of severe poverty, high rates of illiteracy and single motherhood (most of whom are divorced, not teenagers), Harlow people are friendly, spirited and encouraging, which is why I always come back.
- Junction 7. The way out.
- The events they have at the town park including fire works nite!!!! oh except from all the fites that take place of course!!!
- Bill Rammell MP. He's a great man and is good for the Town
- Bill Rammell MP. He's a great man and is good for the Town
- r there any?
- There's nothing
- It no longer has a Labour majority council
- it does seem to be chilling out a bit more some of the old thugs have grown up a bit or had kids or have been sent to prison so it seems alot more relaxed lately.
- The town park (Apart from the fact that there has been so many rapes and attacks down there). The skaters, punks, goths and outcasts rule!
- Town Park in the summer, The Square but thats it.
- Old Harlow!
- Pets Corner. Skating spots rock.
- JELLIED EELS
- All roads that lead out of it.
- Good friends..... I have made some good friends, people are quite libral here. More than they used to be. Labour strong hold...!
- Going to London to find out that Harlow really isn't that bad.
- The Town park is very pretty - but only because they didn't ruin that by putting concrete lego blocks all over it. Other than that, it's hard to think of a single likeable thing about the place...
- the best things are all around the outside of the town.
although there are some nice girls there(we have tourists).
- everything, everyone moans but do they leave NO.... and if they do they come back or say how much they miss it(trust me they do)so all you harlow people stop putting it down remember its the people who make the town !!
- DJ Franky actually coming back to Halrow to perform a gig
- There was a fab mural in the Technical college by John Piper. I believe the college has been demolished (?) so what happened to the mural?
The London Plain tree and the Elephant climbing frame in Mark Hall Park.
The Slide (longest one at its time) in Pennymead.
The cycle tracks
All the fifties housing schemes
The Lawn and the Banana Block

- The best thinks about Harlow..???? every thing. I grew up there in the 60's. i now live on the otherside of the World...I can remember all the good things and bad things...But i choose not to remember them bad old things...Harlow was and still is special to me.! My first love lived there. "Margaret" Her dad was the lock keeper, All my best memories are in Harlow and i could not nock the place for quids...even after 30 years of being away....
- Without doubt one of the best things in Harlow is the HSO - Harlow Symphony Orchestra. Members meet every Tuesday evening at Tanys Dell School to rehearse music from the symphonic repertoire. They perform in some great venues including , most recently, Ely Cathedral.
I would be pleased to hear from any players who might be interested in joining the orchestra.
Next concert: March 7th at Bishop's Stortford College.
- Good cycle track network,a bit of maintenance would improve it no end. More tracks would ease congestion on the roads, if only more of the tracks linked up.Mopeds should also be allowed to use them again!
- The Pubs Blokes The Square The Cinema
- That for a large town , it has a villiage mentality, everyone knows everyone or is related to them, esp. by marriage, ( maybe second or third marriages have something to do with this, us baby boomers must do SOMETHING.
- It's handy for London, Stansted and road connections, it hasn't got a 'Hertfordshire' attitude like some of it's neighbouring towns and everybody knows everybody.
