Pubs
  • The White Horse is the best pub in Haslemere for a night out. No contest. Decent decor, light and usually possible to grab a table. Avoid on Friday night unless you enjoy queuing at the bar. Anyone who preferred the dark dingy pub it used to be probably also enjoyed thumb screws. For Sunday lunch (or any lunch in fact) go to The Mill Tavern, which has remained virtually flawless in this derpartment for as long as I can remember.
  • The mill tavern, shottermill, west sussex. The mill tavern offers a great selection of good quality beer, lager and wine, the food is excellent! They do probably the best burger in town, however you really must try their duck breast on sweet chilli noodles or their fillet steaks, they are to die for!!!There is talk of having live music back in the summer, making good use of the superb beer garden.CHECK IT OUT!! 10/05/05
  • Ive just read all your comments on the Crown and Cushion in Haslemere! What a load of rubbish you lot talk, or else this site isnt being updated. The new lady and landlord are Kriti and Diane who took over the pub a while ago. Friday night is disco night, Monday nights are pool nights and any other night the pub is filled with friendly, approachable people, excellent food and drinks...yes it might be more expensive than other places...but its worth it for the atmosphere alone. Ladies, look out for serious talent behind the bar! Watch out for Alan though, hes mine mwahahaha! The White Horse has turned into a wine bar, attracting the rich and posh, the Hotel is once again under new management and hasnt quite reached the 'Ian' stage that it once was. No music, nothing. Spoons is just spoons, a place to get cheap booze before you hit the C&C at 9pm. There is nowhere in Haslemere that compares to this place since Diane and Kriti have taken over!!! So instead of taking my word for it, just pop along :O)
  • Spoons is probably the most popular, but there are many more to choose from...
  • The White Swan in Haslemere (JD Wetherspoons) has come in for some criticism but is by far the best pub in Haslemere - at least the beer is decently priced and the food is a bargain compared to over priced places like The White Horse. You can't beat panini or chicken wrap with a drink for £2.99 ! And now they have finally got the car parking sorted out so that the tightwad Haslemere shoppers who tried to park their cars in there for FREE and do their shopping in somerfield etc, its even better ! Well done Miles, Cheryl and co !
  • Go to the Crown and Cushion - redone and owned by damm nice people. its got pool tables, duke box and a proper pub dog. fantastic
  • Wetherspoons used to be good until Julian Elsden started going there. Now we all go to the F&P in Grayshott.
  • Crown & Cushion getting back to being the best pub in Haslemere.
  • The White Horse is fab but pricey, expect to see half the alumni of Woolmer Hill - Wetherspoons is full of dodgy old men most of the time and thick with smoke.
  • Last time I was in the Crown the landlord stopped serving at 10.45 and kindly hoofed everyone out on the dot at 11pm. Yet another way he has 'improved' this pub.
  • Hotel needs to go back to its roots. Red lion isn't the same without doug behind the bar. The Swan is just a weatherspoons so no further comment can be made. The White Horse has gone all fancy. The Mill Tavern is a fair walk from the station. The Prince of Wales is probably the best but miles away.
  • Friendliest locals found in the Haslemere Hotel
  • Crown and Cushion - dire place, atmosphere not helped by under achieveing staff and management. Much is made of its welcoming approach which is admirable but carried off with little more than minimum effort. Mill Tav - tops the list in Haslemere - I lived there for 10 yrs Prince of Wales keeps a good pint, have good straw sucking yokels there too which is always good entertainment
  • White Horse on the high street
  • Been back to check on the Crown & Cushion, and it most definitely is not a young persons or local pub anymore. It is sadly just a soulless pub, with little or no atmosphere. If beer and a frindly atmosphere is what your after, then try the Prince of Wales in Hammer, or the Mill tavern. But bare in mind that the Mill Tavern has certainly got a lot to learn about bar service. Sometimes you wait for so long for a drink, you may as well give up. And this wasn't even on a Buskers night!! CONCLUSION: For the best beer and food, try the Prince of Wales in Hammer. You will not be dissapointed. The food is v.good, and they tend to have some interesting items on their menu , such as wild boar, swordfish, ostrich steaks etc. Its a cut above the normal steak & chips, and pre-plated sunday roasts!!!
  • Well, going around pubs in Haslemere (like u do) my general view is that after 9 the Red lion has about 4 people in it, the Crown, well everyone looks board until they have a drink, the Hotel is not worth mentioning very 'nice' atmosphere? Weatherspoons and White Horse are friendly enough and cheap enough (cute blokes! - sometimes) no food served at White Horse not even chrisps! good for a laugh and game of pool until they get rid of that one as well!
  • JD Wetherspoon, occupying the old Swan building is good for cheap drink although it lacks music and seems to be a bit slack when it comes to asking for ID. The White Horse is serving all drinks for £1 Sunday to Thursday, but this place needs demolishing, most of the building has been condemmed already.
  • So the Crown and cushion is undoubtedly the best pub in haslemere. Nice friendly people, good atmosphere, clean and tidy. Reasonable priced food excellent beer.
  • The Mill Tavern is now in The Good Beer Guide.Members of OASIS&ALL SAINTS spotted during the summer & scottish soccer player seen dining after xmas.Dave Stewart caught singing at Buskers.AMANDA bURTON was in munching. You just never know who will call in for a pint.
  • The Crown and Cushion is friendly but the atmosphere has decreased - bring back the sticky carpets at the dingy old Swan - Haslmere pubs have definatley gone down hill - apart from the Mill Tavern which is always good for a meal and chat - but not a Friday night out.
  • The Crown and Cushion has now re opened after a nine week closure. come in and see the difference. New roof, see that outside, inside new floor and bar. Great friendly atmosphere, good beer and food. I am looking for a cook/chef to help to develop the food to attract new customers and to keep the existing ones interested as well. We have a lot to offer here. and only the best will do.Please disregard some of the comments on the web page as most are way out of date and do not relate to my tenure here, but to past managers who have left long ago. Peter.
  • The Customers at the Crown and Cushion raised £100.88p for children in need charity on 18th November Thanks every one. WE made it up to £101. but also put in £10. The Football team are also doing well.Keep it up boys, and Sue and Jane.
  • Having been away from Haslemere for about 6 years - I was shocked to see some of the changes. The Crown & Cushion used to be a very friendly pub, with some good music & beer. Sadly, it has gone the way of many decent pubs and is now trying to cater to the family / food crowd. This seems to be a trend with money grabbing landlords. Having lived in Europe for the last few years, I like to think I know what good food tastes like, and for the prices that Peter is charging, he should really be serving something half decent. Unfortunately, all we are given is rather mediocre family "grub". What a shame to lose such a great drinking venue to just another 'Big Steak' style pub. As much as I like foody pubs, I do find it rather optimistic that he can compete with the likes of The Mill Tavern with it's food & beer. I can't believe that the pubs have gone down hill in the last few years. Without doubt, the Mill Tavern serves the best beer, whilst Weatherspoons sells the cheapest (but also attracts the younger crowd). Gone are all the great bands playing in The Swan, The Crown & Cushion (such as The Hamsters & B-Sharp). Thankfully, we can still find live music at The Station Hotel & The Bill Tavern (check out Busker's night - it's amazing who you see down there!!)
  • I moved to Haslemere 2 years ago and have made my best effort to try every one out. The Swan no longer exists and neither does the Georgian. The Crown And Cushion although expensive is probably the best for its friendly atmosphere. The Haslemere Hotel is ok on a Friday and Saturday for its music but I don't get the doors shut by 10 thing. In the main town the white horse and witherspoons are having a price war. The White Horse is winning with £1 a drink. The Mill Tavern is rubbish. Boring. The Red Lion is ok, the people are alright. The drink sometimes isn't all that in there though.
  • Cheers. At last, its time I had my say about the Crown and Cushion. I am the new landlord and would firstly tell every one that I have the best customers and the best Pub in Haslemere. Secondly I have put my money where my mouth is, (many thousands of pounds), unlike all those other people who simply want to find fault. When the pub was on the market last year they could also have put a bid in if they were interested. Ive only been here since 13.4.2000 and I have lots of plans for the pub. Like every other circumstance, "Rome was not built in a day" and I too, have to tread a bit at a time, relative to the ammount I can afford. Sure we are looking to build up the food trade, particularly at lunchtimes and of course evenings as well, but to also cater for our existing regular customers, who have, for the most part been using the pub for years. We had a leak problem several months ago which has caused me to have to close whilst repairs are being carried out to the floor, at the same time we are having a new roof put on because the old one had perished,( the pub was originally built about 1858. We would hope to re-open officially on the 30th October. The actual date is yet to be confirmed but should be 30/10/00 as above. Next year I hope to have a childrens play area, with Wendy House and some childrens play equipment too. If you waant to know what is going on here, please come in and ask me. Thanks for reading this long script, hope to see you soon, have a good Christmas and new year. This job is hard enough without the negative comments to contend with. I can't please everyone all of the time, I am only human, But I can assure you all that I do my best, all of the time! See you at the Crown and Cushion. (Wipe your feet when you come in.) New floor. Your new landlord, Peter.
  • The Crown and Cushion is too expensive and the Manager is going for a more "exclusive" crowd, get real, its Haslemere
  • The Mill Tavern is still a great place for superb food , ale & conversation.
  • Crown and Cushion - the Crowns is now a great fun pub to go to, great crowd of people up for a laugh. Bar staff and management are friendly and very enthusiastic and the food has been turned around and is now to a very high standard. For those of you who forget to eat before heading out for a sesh, I suggest the Bacon and Egg Sandwich, bowyakasha!
  • The Crown & Cushion has changed a lot over the last year, but has now finally gained new management with a fresh attitude and the interests of the locals at heart. Good food, Good Fun and lots of laughs - keep your eye on this pub, its beginning to fill up again, with the right clientelle, no under agers, probably 25 plus, so try it and if you don't like it go somewhere else and leave us to have a good time
  • The comments you have on your page are extremely out of date. The gripe about The Crown & Cushion, removal of football table and big screen happened 1 year ago when temporary management took over the premises. Since then a number of temporary managers have come and gone. The Crown & Cushion was sold to lease 2 weeks ago to a lovely gentlman and his wife. They are fantastically enthusiastic about all events (any suggestion is welcome). The food is great ranging from snacky stuff through to posh stuff. The clientelle are much maturer since last years refurbishment and the general image of the pub is now one of class as opposed to cattle market.
  • The Crown and Cushion is now under new management, they took out the bar football, the Juke Box, The large Screen and in its place put in a miserable rude set of bar staff. Avoid it at all cost use the Wetherspoon which with it's cheap lager beats the pants off the grumpy reception you get when ordering a pint in the Crowns.
  • There's a new Wetherspoons' pub which really does seem to be rather better than some of the others there.
  • If you fancy a drink, go to the Haslemere Hotel, opposite the station. Pubs in town are pretty limited, but there are good ones in surrounding villages (e.g. Fernhurst).
  • I disagree with the feelings you have about the pubs in Haslemere, the one oposite the station is crap, the best pub is the Crown and Cusion near the railway bridge.
  • The Crown and Cushion is OK if you like to hang around with dermatologically challenged 16 year olds - but then again this applies to almost all pubs in Haslemere, which is why most intelligent life disappears up to Godalming to drink. However, there is a glimmer of hope on the horizon in the newly reopened Mill Tavern opposite the Mill ponds near Camelsdale which serves good beer and excellent food in a trad. pub atmosphere.
  • The Prince of Wales is the only pub I really go to since my friends broke the pool table in the Swan, and the bar owner is a top bloke.
  • Cant believe The Swan has turned into a 'Family' pub, how terrible, now frequenting the place are old people drinking coffee!!Bring back the old jukebox and soiled pool table, thanks to my friends!Ahhh sweet memories!!
