| 60s beat/mod/R&B band members from Hastings wanted
|
by Paul (Member 10233578) on 24-Nov-2008
|
HI,
I’m based in Sussex I also collect records and am completely obsessed with the 60s.
I am working on a project of putting together a compilation LP entitled “60s Savages from Sussex and The South Coast”.
I’m looking for members of 60s Beat/mod/R&B/Soul and even Psychedelic bands from Sussex and the South Coast area’s during the years 1961 -1967.
I’m interested mostly in hearing your stories, seeing pictures and hopefully you may have old acetate demos, (or if you were one of the lucky groups who actually managed to record a 45)... It would be so fantastic if you would contact me and maybe contribute a song or two to my compilation LP project.
What got me into wanting to make this LP was when I managed to purchase a copy of Horsham’s The Beat Merchants debut 45 ‘Pretty Face’ on Columbia. It made me think that surely there were other bands from the area that never got as lucky as The Beat Merchants.
If you were in a band from the 60s and were based in East or West Sussex please feel free to contact me and reminisce to me about your times in the 60’s.
Because if I have enough material I may even try and write a column for 60’s beat magazine Shindig about the Sussex & South Coast BEAT SCENES.
CONTACT ME at SONIC3691@AOL.COM
Cheers Paul

| Looking for house-sitting/ affordable place to live
|
by Autumn (Member 10231050) on 27-Aug-2008

To whomever may be able to assist,
I'm a very experienced house/pet sitter, looking for a position in the Hastings/St.Leonards-on-sea area for short or long-term, beginning immediately. I'm a writer and a composer needing a quiet space to work in for a few months, possibly longer, and I have many, many references for the caretaking of both animals and properties. I'll also consider an affordable room rental in a peaceful spot. Hope there's someone out there who can help!
Thanks,

Are John Sims and John Wilkinson still about in Hastings. I'd love to hear from the pair of you. We worked together for, F.H.Wheeler Ltd and had a lot of laughs. The only thing I have ever heard about you; is that John Sims run, or probably still runs, a karate school in Hastings. I hope to hear from you old rapscallions, all the best for now. Vic Jeffreys.

Sorry, don`t know the people to whom you refer but thought I would say that I too worked at Dungeness Power Station in the early 60`s for A.E.I. Cables and Lines. My bosses name was Mr. Chapman. It was a great place to work, plenty of laughs and good food over in McAlpines canteen. I have fond memories.

Hi! Angela, thanks for responding to my request. When I first worked at Dungeness 'A', I worked with my father for, A Reyrolle and Co and I'm shure A.E.I.Cables, were next door to Reyrolles. The entrance to our yards faced the Switch House, and I have a photo of me and a workmate named Red Wilson standing by a 4 wheeled hand barrow right outside the cable cos' yard c1963. I also have several A4 size proffesional photographs taken throughout the building of the 'A' site which shows all aspects of the costruction work which I think, shows the Cable Cos yard, including the huge boiler that was floated round by sea. I can E-mail you some pictures if you like, just let me know and I'll send you my E-mail address. regards Vic. ... more >>

|
by Diana (Member 10210429) on 9-Jul-2007

Hi,
Anyone know of the Marmont family that originated from Chepstow and ended up in Hastings and Tonbridge Kent? The family comprised Ellen, James, John, Cecil, Ida to name a few. Ellen was born in 1887 and disappeared after 1901 census. She married an Alfred Perry and they ended up in Stoke Newington from 1915 - 1940ish.
Any help would be gratefully accepted.

| DEEPROSE FAMILY TREE

Hi everyone, can anyone help me.
I am trying to trace my family tree but I am having a little difficulty tracing the tree on my dad's side of the family. My dad's name was William Deeprose. He was a HGV driver and in the 60's he was a Bouncer on Hasting's Pier. My grandad was also William Deeprose and was a farmer uptil his death. He lived on The Ridge in Hastings. Any help would be greatly appricated.

Hi im Mark deeprose my father was Thomas Nelson Deeprose and I believe he was william Deeprose's brother. It was a long time ago but i thought the farm was over the top of the old ore road (past the King Head pub?)and on the left hand side or it might have been past the ridge cemetary on the right hand side (I was very young) My mothers name was audry Winbourne. My Father had a sister my aunt Mary who lived close to Redlake School. if any of this information is connected to your search, please contact me at luxorshaman@yahoo.com ... more >>

Re: Alister Crowley by Mark Deeprose (Member 236370) on 12-Jan-08
Hi, I am a Crowley fanand actually lived on the ridge for a while close to where Netherwood the last Crowley home had been. I now live in Egypt and have done so for the last 13 years, for the first couple of weeks one did have the usual home-sickness, but thereafter as went well. And im still here in fact I married a local girl and have kids so theres not much likelyhood of my returning to Hastings! that be as it might, i do sometimes miss the old place though, but it proves that you can move away (and without the holed stone) if you want to start over. | Memories of Hastings and St Leonards

by Angus Jones (Member 10050634) on 22-Oct-2006

There was barbed wire along the seafront. You could not get onto the beach. I had to learn to swim in the swimming baths. I still have a card from H.E.S.S.A. The pier had a hole blown in the middle, I assume so that it could not be used for landing. V1s would fly overhead. It could have been one of those that landed on a church to the west of St Leonards.

Imagine what it would be like to play the National lottery and Euromillions for free. With a greatly increased chance of winning either or both. Add to this the fact that you could be earning a potentially great income while you play. Copy and paste the link into your browser and find out how you could change your life for ever. http://www.v-w-d.com/g.asp?m=cheapbeer&goto=/vwdgu

Do you remember me, I'm Louise Claridge, your old mate. I used to live in Orchard Way too, and you came to me when things got bad with your stepmum...

| Moving to Hastings

Hi
I am very interested in moving to Hastings from London.
I can only do so much research sitting at a computer in London and was looking for some local knowledge on where to avoid when puchasing a property although I would like it as close to the sea front as possible.
I would also like to know more about Hastings itself, warts and all. I have not been to Hastings for a few years now but will be coming to view properies in the next week or so.
My memories of it are very positive although I seem to remember that it was not very child friendly in local bars etc. has this changed?
I thankyou for any helpand advice you can give me.
Regards

Ignore the idiotic message above. Perhaps a down-side of Hastings is people of that kind of mentality.
The town has actually picked up a lot in recent years. The new shopping centre seems to have breathed new life into it.
There are some really nice walks to be found along the top of the cliffs to Ore and Fairlight and of course the castle and plenty of olde worlde shops in the Old High Street.
Transport wise, there are trains to Ashford (for Eurostar), Brighton and London. The roads are not brilliant (no dual carriageways for miles) but they generally keep moving.
The traditional seaside elements like the fun fair and pier are still here too. ... more >>
