The Best Things in High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire*

If you're around, be sure to check these things out

You can tell us more about High Wycombe.

The Best Things
  • Whoever said Wycombes crime was not that bad is dillusional. However, most people on here seem to have the correct opinion of this vile ghetto town. People see the word Buckinghamshire and think that means it will be nice... THINK AGAIN. Bucks is a wealthy county and south Bucks inparticular, however there is an exception to every rule and dirty grimey urban Wycombe couldn't be much further from the leafyness and garden picket fences of surrounding villages.
  • About wycombe - your joking - i hate the place and you would be mad to think differently but i would have to say all the djs to come out of wycombe
  • Wycombe aint a bad place...its good :D plus we gt d eden cumin.... BIG UP CASTLEFIELD.... IT ISN'T IN POVERTY U FASSEYS...
  • Rolling Green Hills, great rendezvous areas for lovers, Agile Scaffolders for a quality erection, great friends, The White Lion Pub in Cryers Hill!
  • it is home to the causeway stadium, home to the LONDON WASPS! nad wycombe wanders
  • Umm - the friendliness that comes from living in a small town (possibly helped by the fact I worked in a local pub for over a year). The Rye is beautiful and the charity shops rule! Like any town, there are nice areas - and no-go ones! Went to uni there and have very fond memories...wouldn't EVER go back there to live though...far too dull and not nearly enough to do.
  • Transport routes to London, Reading, Maidenhead, Henley, Aylesbury and Oxford. Also one of the best things about Wycombe is that it's getting all knocked down and rebuilt (atlast). New multiplex building with cinema, bowling alley and shops etc is being built and should be ready by Q4o6 or Q1o7.
  • The Italian. I've been there about 50 times, always have great food, a laugh with the staff and have got no idea what it's called. The countryside around Wycombe and it's proximity to London and closer, nicer places make it a great location. The Hobgoblin, the market, Spices Kebabs (next to Subway), The Rye, The White Horse, The Bell, the people. Okay, maybe not all of the people.
  • RUBY MOON, 63 Castle Street....01494 513005.
  • loved high wycombe loads, had the best times and worst times but dont regret a thing, if you remember me please contact me at g.woolston@btinternet.com, my name is gennive, i went to college there for few years from about 96, and adored the antelope and everyone in it!!!! I was the small dark haired pissed up girl!!!!!
  • I know you didn't want negative input that wasn't helpful but the best thing IS the exit routes. I'm sorry but it's true. Failing that, if you have the inner strength, the best thing about Wycombe is that it can give you the determination and drive to aim for something better. - There has to be more to life right?
  • All these sad people saying how crap Wycombe is need to get a life. If it's so crap why did you stay for so long? My boyfriend and I moved to Wycombe 6 months ago because we wanted our daughter to grow up in a better environment than anywhere in London could provide. I guess many of these people haven't lived in Hackney, Camden, or Lambeth or Haringey or come to think of it.. most London boroughs; then they would know about the Bronx. (The Bronx is actually quite nice now but stereotypes stick!) But really, people need to stop being silly about this, Wycombe's crime rate is way below the national average, and has a third of the crime in Hackney and less than a third of crime in Camden. If you don't like Wycombe take control of your life and get out!! I personally love living in Wycombe because of the countryside the fresh air and the fact that it's multicultural. I lived in Hackney all my life as did my boyfriend as did our daughter (7 yrs old). It's all about quality of life and therefore I wouldn't go and live in Hackney again if you paid me!
  • Living in Totteridge. At least when you live in the same street as all the muggers, burglars, arsonists, vandals and useless kevs, you are less likely to get shot, stabbed, mugged, burgled, etc as the human flotsam that partake in these activates no that there is no point doing any of these things in the area as we’re all skint and have nothing of value to nick. Also their smart enough to realise that if they do over their next door neighbour they are likely to be identified. God bless Totteridge.
  • Quite historic compared to many towns, has some good facilities, being in the chilterns, and the valley setting shows how much potential the town once had before it was dumped with immigrants and council estates were built all over the surrounding hills.
  • The Rye, without a doubt. Football, tennis, gettin pissed, sunbathing, general arsing around, its great!
  • There are people who try to make a difference.
  • Wycombe Swan. Food. The fact that we're only 30 minutes from London!!!
  • The M40 North or South (either way your getting out of the place).
  • Drive 5 miles in either direction and your likely to find some nice scenary (West Wycombe)
  • The White Horse - Awesome lap dancing during the day, and the toilets actually smell superb!!
  • WELL IF YA LYK ME N DA MOST WELL KNOWN PERSON IN WYCOMBE DN ITS S'ALLGUD GET MEH
  • CRUISIN ROUND IN A KITTED UP CAR ROUND DA HIGH ST N CASTLEFEILD.MCIKLEFIELD,BOOKER,CRESSEX,SANDS DONT GO CRUISIN IN DOWNLEY BCZ ITS BORIN NO1 IZ EVA OUT EVN ON MENDIP N CUMBRIAN OH N YA CANT 4GET CRESSEX SKUL DA GANGSTER SKUL GET MEH!

  • altho high wycombe gets more like Hackney everyday, becoz its in Bucks people think its a nice area. o yeh there are loadsa nyc cafes and stuff in the town centre.
  • Nothing....
  • Best thing that happened to me is immigrating to another country far far away.In north America now and love it.Spent 20 years in High Wycombe, miss nothing!!!!
  • John Hampden Grammar School rocks, dont u put it down, plus, they're doing refurbishments to make it even better, GO MR. JEFFERYS
  • Narcotis Anonymous
  • ummmmmmmmmmmm..........
  • Erm... honestly can't think of anything. S'pose the Rye is good if you're still young enough to use the park! Oh, and the train and bus system... plenty of ways to escape from here!
  • ) out of 10, ok nightlife
  • its a community enit, wateva ppl say yer, u get used 2 it, u get 2 know ppl enit, jus get urself known den its s'all good. Bare girls
  • I don't know why so many people whine about HW being such a shithole, I used to live in Uxbridge which has a far worse reputation than HW, yet it was ok living there. Grow up! It's not that bad here, and if you don't like it then perhaps you should go and live somewhere else. Don't tell me that you are trapped here by poverty as we live in one of the most prosperous counties in the UK and in one of the most affluent areas of that county.
  • The Noodle Bar, Ruby Moon, the Rye, Bloc 3.
  • beaconsfield.
  • Um...despite what people say, Wycombe is actually quite alright. If your wandering around in the day you generally will not get mugged, and its good to sit on the Rye in the summer with a couple of beers.
  • great social town, as long as you know everyone!!
  • Get out of the town centre and you are surrounded by green fields
  • Nothing, its a dump...but a classy one...which is close to both london, Oxford and has good access to major motorways.
  • The Rye, Hughenden Park etc.. I love it in town, all the other wankers slating the place don't know what a little gem this place is.
  • The bare jokes and jankrottonising to be had
  • The skate park, Ruby Moon...........
  • It's not London!
  • Going home to london at the weekend.
  • It can't be worse than Croydon!!
  • Atleast it's not a full of arrogant, stuck up middle class types who spend their time keeping up with the jones' and washing their 4x4's like many towns in southeast England. Instead, Wycombe has council estates, industry, old terraces, and a multi racial community. Better or worse? Well better in my opinion!
  • The bush diving potential is just awesome and the valley gives you hills of sheer pleasure.
  • The bush diving potential is just awesome and the valley gives you hills of sheer pleasure.
  • WYCOMBE SUCKS AND I LIVE HERE!!!
  • The new Roosters chicken place. O'Neills at the weekend. The Hogs Head for a quiet sunday drink. The Noodle Bar. The girls, there are no ugly girls in Wycombe just girls bith good personality's. There all very friendly and open minded. Sports, the newly named Causway Stadium is home to the mighty blues & London Wasps.
  • Best things??? ME!
  • the firemen
  • Wycombe Show on the Rye
  • I'm not even going to write anything decent here.
  • Arent any
  • Nothing I can think of
  • Leaving...although you have to go uphill to do it. I'm sure the fact that you have to go down to get into Wycombe is a metaphor for something...
  • London access + public transport (although atrocious after 6pm). Kids getting soaked in the frogmoor fountain (a replacement for the BIG metal one taken down in WW2).
  • Hughenden Park (How can such a nice place be here)
  • Issac Lords -
  • That sleep is a temporary escape.
  • tesco, free asda bus hehe. Nah prolly O'Neills if you've had enough to drink... going to Denis's van and chatting to curazy locals... tramping up Amersham Hill... sitting in the cemetery.
  • going home to hazlemere.
  • The Uni, cos that's where I met all my mates, closely followed by my girlfriend, who is the best thing in the world.
  • this is home man. You can walk down any road you want there will be no trouble. cuz the asains around at night are all usually charged and just wana chill.
  • The most beautiful woman in the world lives in High Wycombe.
  • da white horse!
  • easy access to london, upcoming student aura, a town sorting its act out
  • How it used to be long ago when it WAS a beautiful place to belong to.
  • high wycombe has nothin goin 4 it or the people in it. but the people who live here will know its pure jokes. so luv it .
  • Its a good place to live or why would all these residents moan about wanting to leave but are still here!
  • THe rye (a big field wher everyone goes) fred
  • Hussein's kebab van. Friendly service and big ass dirty burgers. I also think it's quite funny that there's been a cold war going on between Husseins and Dennis' Kebab van which sits exactly opposite hussein's. They just sat opposite each other and give each other dirty looks. Until Dennis suspiciously dissapeard one day and has'nt been seen since. Also the crazy bus which ferries drunk people from the university to their homes in the early hours of the morning. It's like dicing with death because of the care-free,almost suicidal, attitude of the driver. I also like the way that if he doesnt like you, he'll chuck you out halfway home. But unfortunately he keeps playing paul weller tapes.
  • the kebab van, the one on the RIGHT as you look at them on bridge street car park. 2 quid for a medium, truely medium donner is not bad at all. 1.40 for chips and cheese. oh and the falcon.
  • The brunettes and the fit bloke in Computer Paradise.
  • If you are a mugger, thief, drug dealer, vandal or murderer, then Wycombe has to be one of the best places in the country, you are free to persue your particular activity with virtually no interference from any of the authorities. If your occupation isn't listed above then there is no best thing.
  • only place in bucks to have a professional football team
  • I'm actually really disappointed in all the negative feeling for High Wycombe that I've read on this page. I'm really excited about buying a house in Castlefields and living in High Wycombe again. I love the countryside, the friendly people, the shops, the pubs and the fact that my boyfriend and I can just about afford a house. We can't wait to get out of London to come to High Wycombe.
  • Yeh listen up u fasies wycombe is heavy deres pubs, clubs, bare buff lads and bad people u lot dont ave a life dats y u tink its shit!hangin in da octagon ent bad u jus gota kno da peeps ya get me!booooo to da wycombe crew!
  • The Rye on a hot sunny day with a group of mates, loads of alcohol and food.
  • Ella Pawlik
  • The fit goth boys.
  • Wycombe WAnderers football club. The TOAD. FAST EDDIES
  • Sabrina - sexy waitress at costa coffee. Its near nice places, why go into wycombe centre ?
  • the fact thats its so boring u cant help but meet people.
  • The 'delicious kebab van' outside Midalnd bank and McDonalds. £2.20 a nice fiesty ..oops mean tasty kebab , minty , moist and marvellous with cheese !
  • The road out of wycombe.
  • Wycombe wanderers FC
  • Wycome is a great place i have lived here all my life. I bet half of the people who have rote about my home town have never even been here!!
  • Noodle Bar behind the Falcon has improved High Wycombe no end....it also has a fairly good market on Tuesdays, Fridays and Saturdays...check out the olives and feta from the Greek family!! Watch out though...it's easy to spend too much. There's a fab public library that is about to move to better environment apparently. The surrounding countryside is great.
  • I think the council are actually trying a bit harder. More pubs and cafes are opening up. Plenty of jobs about. The women are easily impressed. It's handy for London, Oxford, Watford, Reading, Beaconsfield, Marlow etc - all of which are a safer bet than Wycombe.
  • Going Away on holiday
  • Wycombe is really close to London and there is always something going on, it's groovy coz i live in Wales and nothing happens! My dad lives in High Wycombe and it just has to have way more gorgeous guys in it! Wales is like total rubbish coz nobody does anything and the police always raid all the best raves in barns and only coz we snog each other!
  • The drinkers, smokers, dealers, slags, ladies,I love the place. But the gothics that hang around on the RYE writing gay gaffiti in the subway are DIKS!!!
  • Theres plenty of space to be bored in and if you like freaks this is the place to live.
  • The expensive places - cafe rouge, the swan theatre, the rye park, hughendon park, the train to london and the bus to oxford. The bus to marlow and henley ( lovely little thames side towns ).
  • It's near to London. The Hellfire club has some good stand up acts who sometimes go on to be famous. The Antelope. The curse of Wycombe is a myth. If you want to leave just leave I did. Good country pubs nearby. Good scenery nearby. It's not that dangerous - a few idiots but hardly the Bronx. Plenty of work.
  • Watching people leave High Wycombe.
  • Being here as little as possible
  • Nowt . prob Hogshead.
  • Goths
  • Living in Beaconsfield
  • Close to everywhere, but still plenty of country. Good atmosphere on a weekend night. The Blues. Multi racial community.
  • DRUGS
  • Wycombe girls may be plain, but they'll always be there for you after the pub shuts ready for a knuckle shuffle in the car on the way back to her house.
  • The Grammar Schools, and the close proximity to London, Marlow, Henly etc!!
  • ADAMS PARK,
  • Bekonscot Model Village down the road in Beaconsfield West Wycombe Caves and Hill
  • the railway station, at last a way out
  • Swan theatre (1000 seats and plenty of start turns) and UCI cinema (6 screens).
  • Cynics who hate the place leaving for Bermuda. Come on! HW is never going to be the greatest place in the world but there are many worse places you could be. If it's as mediochre as some people suggest then it just gives those people a better chance of standing above the rest.
  • As others have mentioned, Wycombe is right in the middle of the UK (well actually just near Aylesbury is the furthest inland you can get anyware in England) so it is great for getting to the M1, M4, M25 and then on to the rest of the UK.
  • Friendly atmosphere during the day....and the hills may be annoying to walk up but they're excellent if you're on a bike.
  • Nicer places are easily accesible from wycombe.
  • The abundance of teenage girls due to two girls' high schools (including one for "posh" birds at the bottom of Marlow Hill) The staff in shops where you go every week will remember you and talk to you in a friendly fashion The schools are actually pretty damned good (unless you're a dumbass) It has trees and open grassy spaces and the odd river and some great views from the top of the many hills. CONCRETE BALLS IN THE HIGH STREET!!!
  • John hampden grammar school
  • The Exit
  • Have lived there since I was little. Nice bakery. Pretty hills and farms. Underground. Swings in the park.
  • The obvious best thing about the town is the football team, Wycombe Wanderers.
  • Little hassle aside from law courts, everything is easy to get to from the centre of town
  • Wycombe has now got night club that is relatively good, although the best part of the town is the pubs.
  • Good skating community. Near to London
  • Are you joking? The only good thing that I can say about having lived in HW is that I now appreciate anywhere else (yes I mean ANYWHERE)
  • I only have to live there for 3 years and it is relatively near London
  • BEING A GATEWAY TOWN ( USEFUL FOR LONDON AND THE COUNTRYSIDE )
  • The parks along the banks of the river, old historical buildings. That awesome roundabout, cut a hot lap before the cops turn out. The firefighters who knew how to have a good time, and the parties they threw.
