Pubs in High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire*

The place to go for a lazy afternoon, pub quiz or last call

You can tell us more about High Wycombe.

Pubs
  • The White Lion, Cryers Hill...why? Because it has the best publican EVER! Fi! She rocks and so does the clientelle!!!!
  • Antelope, Falcon, The Bell, The Hogshead, Bulters (more of a bar)
  • Finn McCauls is good entertainment. There was a disproportionately high number of skanky middle aged women on the pull when I went. Some people might like that though. I'd go to the Hobgoblin. Everyday if I could. The Bell's alright for a quiet pint too.
  • The Bell in Frogmore, great beer and thai food..
  • Antelope R-I-P
  • If you like clean places, with nice staff/customers, affordable prices and NO RISK, get down to the glasshouse
  • Antelope - OAPs and unemployed during the day, evenings generally attract a chavvy element. You get alternative crowds in there sometimes but this is more to do with the later hours than the ambience. (Loud music overcompensates for the lack of atmosphere) Interesting to see if this changes now the licenses have extended elsewhere. Hobgoblin - attracts postmen during the day (uh, after work obviously!) and a range of people in the evenings. Often a nice mix - very accepting crowd generally. This is the most popular pub for rock/metal/punk fans. The White Horse - Scummy, dingy pub but offers good live entertainment. (Day time - strippers/lapdances, evenings - corking live music. Often referred to by locals as The Shite. Attracts a crowd namely from the alternative scene. Many fresh faced hopefuls lurk by the stage with their stripey socks and grungy-esque mascara - soft drinks only of course. (Often seen vomitting outside or down the road. - Too much fizzy pop...)
  • New website for The Downley Donkey Pub www.downleydonkeypub.co.uk
  • The Roundabout, The Hobgoblin, The Antelope. All attract a strange mix of people, but it seems to work!
  • Pubs and clubs are rubbish, over smokey, full of chavs and the youthful. It is better to go to Reading, Henley, Oxford etc for a night out instead!!!
  • Dont go in the antelope. al u wil find are desperate 12 year olds and scowling old builders.
  • Hogs Head now has a juke box wooo!! Very chilled here and nice bar'men' def go here before going out.
  • DA TOAD NEVA BIN DER BT LUKS AYT N MA MATES GO DER WUD HELP IF I WOZ 18 N MA MATE WEARNT IN PRIZON SO I CUD GO
  • the crown in Penn does really nice lunches
  • Freshfaced crpwd alrite?
  • Horse and Jockey- Penn. Earl Howe- Holmer Green. Just to let you know, the Magpies pub has closed.
  • elephant and castle in amersham. toad in wycombe is k if u like the ruddie scene (totally cool midday however) white horse and the hogs head r also well rated
  • The Hobgoblin gets my vote. Good beer, good music and good company. Also the Antelope, a little "studenty" but good value as it is often open till very late.
  • All Wycombe pubs are pretty crap.
  • all the best pubs are gone now, the red cow on frogmoor, ye exchange, the saracens head in green street.
  • The Terriers ph the most over priced pub in town!!
  • I have only been in 3 pubs in H Wycombe. The Falcon is good to start in as beer is cheap. Get monged here if you are on a budget. The next one that I go in is the Antelope, full of student types but generally good fun. Lastly the Hobgoblin, goths and allsorts go there. I have also noticed that a lot of the pubs operate doormen/ladies who all seem to be from the same security firm. Don't f*ck about with them or you'll find that there will be many places that you can't into other than the one you have just been thrown out of. Happy Binge Drinking!!
  • Pakis slowly creaping into the town centre pubs. STOP IT NOW!!
  • The Shite is full of Greebs and the Stella is shit! The Goblin has the best Jukebox, but is fucking pricey........ O'Neill's is just too cheesy....... It's got to be the Antelope every time really! I fucking love that place man!
  • falcon and hobgoblin tbh, beer and burger deal (arguments over change are frequent) and a crazzzzeeeeeeeeeeee quiz
  • The Antelope and The White Horse...both have wicked live music and bands.
  • The Castle on Rutland Ave, Castlefield! HA HA HA! How many times has it been petrol bombed/burnt down now? The owner got death threats cos they wanted 2 biuld another mosque there and he refused to sell it! WHY? Castlefield already has a mosque and there's another bigger 1 just down the road near Green Street!
  • The Gate and The Mason's Arms
  • The Gate and The Mason's Arms
  • WYCOMBE SUCKS AND I LIVE HERE!!!
  • litten tree.. and the toad.. the falcon for some cheap drinking but not very lively.
  • Sadly missed The Angel, Pauls Row now O'Neils
  • The Hobgoblin Rules.... Good Music and good tunes all you metal heads.... Go there and Trust me students... Do not go to the Union... If you do you'll know what i mean.
  • The pubs seem to be quite changeable, the pubs I used to drink at I would not set foot in now. Try them all, it's a matter of personal preference.
  • Erm....not The Litten Tree. Go to Finn Mac Cools
  • Hourglass in Sands, has to the most depressing Pub in the Town?, shabby with no characture, the locals that look down mouthed & miserable, this should be knocked down & rebuilt with a New Landlady that doesn't look like a Witch.
  • two many to list, I'd have to be judgemental.
  • The white horse
  • Ok maybe they don't sell to minors.....but I think everyone is quite aware of the "young looking crowd" in about every pub in Wycombe, Go to Bourne End !!!
  • Wetherspoons is the cheapest but they seem intent on banning well-meaning-but-sometimes-loud members of the uni's sports teams.
  • Falcon has cheap beer - best to go there when it's empty. All pubs heaving with bodies and standing room only Wednesday and Friday night.
  • Loadsa pubs in wycombe, loadsa pub to avoid. Goblin and The Lope are great pubs with a friendly crowd. Oneils as ok, but theres always a queue when i go there. The Shite Whores is erm shite, but it does have a late license.
  • The Old Plough R.I.P was the best pub in the world - with the three legged drunk dog, the bend pool cues for shots round the posts and the folk club. - It's reopening soon but I'm scared to go, I'd be inconsolable if it wasnt exactly the same as it used to be
  • Well... Falcon is a good starter pub, as the drinks are very cheap, tho there is a rude guy who works there and some creepy old winos at the bar. O'Neills is fun on Friday and Saturday - admittedly, tho you have to be trollied. The DJ there is generally up for cheesy requests and those old chesnuts - S Club 7, Nirvana and Van Morrison - are trawled out every single week. The bar staff are nice, toilets clean. Blokes (esp. that porn star looking one with long blond hair) can be slightly seedy. Finn McCoul's is prolly the worst (apart from the Flint with its handpainted signs: 'Famalies welcome') because of the tres dodgy clientele - fat ladies in revealing clothing having fights in the toilets, and lacsivious blokes out for a shag. The Toad is full of decidedly uncool people who think they are trendy b/c they have Nelly's album. Litten Tree is alright, but a tad sleazy plus one time we were there someone was shot on the street outside... Antelope is pretty groovy too, nice garden...
  • falcon, littentree or toad (if you're a muslim), rest are for skater skum or weirdos.
  • Antelope- used to be AMAZING for me, as I used to know all the staff and punters there, but everyone I know's left now so it ain't quite the same anymore, still a good pub though. White Horse and the Hobgoblin are good pubs on their day. Everywhere else is just full of townies.
  • HOGSHEAD --------------------------------------------------------------------------------- BIG UP, SADLER, TRIGG, LIBBY, SYNER, RATBOY (BEN), RUSSEL, RAPH, TAMZIN, LUCY, AND THE OLD SKOOL MEMBERS... MR DISTON, MICKEY, DEXTER
  • hogsead, oneils and the antelope are all decent pubs. litten tree toad here n now full of townies. hobgoblin is 4 the alternative lot, flint cottage if you wanna get glassed, finns is full of hill billy types inbred looking people, staff arnt much better. falcon is full of alcEs. try em all tho good laugh!
  • HOGSHEAD - best pub in wycombe, cheap drinks, good chilled out atmosphere, sound staff. beware of the HUGE gordie, not trigg, the other one.
  • The pub opposite the Rye (town end) where the Wycombe Town Band used to practise in the 50's. Disraeli gave an historic speech on the balcony (Ive forgotten what the speech was about but it WAS important I believe !!). Maybe some old bandies can elaborate?
  • Well u want slappers of both sexes it has to be the Litten Tree just be careful its not jail bait! If u want a good time The Toad
  • The Firkin has been O'Neills for the past 2 years! get with the programme! Live bands friday and saturday night with extended hours till two or later if you know what i mean. The only place to drink at the weekend. During the week the place to go is the Irish club behind the station for ol, ceoil agus craic.(plus really cheap good quality stout).
  • Who killed the Antelope???
  • im not alowed in pubs silly ok the falcon u forced it outa me fred
  • The antelope's good and has some blues band's every night. The hog's head is really nice and is quite cheap. Exept for the food. The hob goblin is cool but one of the bar staff hates my mate and wont serve him cause he's got long hair.
  • try out legends it is well good chilled out , good atmospher and wicked music .
  • I go to the R.A.F.A club in Totteridge Road very often. It really is a nice friendly place to go and talk about things. They even have domino's.
  • Why has nobody mentioned the Wendover Arms on Desborough Avenue. Just been refurbed and is now very bright and modern. Good food, good value for money. Give it a try, you might just like it.
  • the falcon is cool for a cheap night out with beer and other drinks starting at £!.15! go there get pissed move on to the next place,we all love a cheap night out
  • Toad, litten tree, firkin, Oneils, general havelock....bla bla bla
  • Avoid The Falcon, Finn's, The Flint, Time, Here and Now, the Hogshead, The Toad unless you want to surround yourself with sheeplike slappers and dickheads, all wearing the same clothes, all with the same hair, men with enough hair gel to fry chips & onion in and GIRLS with a severe lack of personality, conversation and ability to speak without sounding like a total dumb ass beeyatch. Instead head for The Goblin,(beware of certain barstaff on pain of death once they've got you, they'll never let you go - AND NO IT'S NOT FULL OF GOTHS ANYMORE, hoooraaaaaah), Antelope, and White Horse for a more relaxed, no one gives a fuk, chilled out bloody good night. Legends has an appealing quality too, if you dont mind the bandanas, jeans around knees and basketball tops...and the miserable old owner Maria..if she catches you talking to her blokey you WILL BE BANNED!..bit hard when he's serving behind the bar!!!!!
  • The Toad in Frogmoor.
  • The Hogshead - plenty of space (unlike the Hobgoblin, which requires a shoe-horn to get in/to the bar/past the goths/to the back garden) and fairly quiet. Pub quiz on Wednesday nights 8:30ish with "John" aka the very lovely Amanda. Watch out for the unruly team in the corner.
  • As above in Clubs
  • TOAD TOAD TOAD TOAD TOAD TOAD!!!! It's wicked!!!!!!!!
  • The Nags Head was once a favourite venue for hard bikers, hard rockers and hard drinking. Now under new management the only hard thing you are likely to find in 'The Pride' is in a cubicle in the gents. In pairs. 'nuff said.
  • DO NOT BOTHER, go to marlow or henley !
  • One word, Firkin.
  • Keep up! - The Firkin ( formerly the Angel ) is now an O'Neals with a good atmos and crowd. Good outside seating for the Sunny afteroon. The Falcon although cheap ( JDW ) avoid on like the plauge on s Sunday afternon as its Wino city. Litten tree - good, lively and modern with cheap beers Tues nights.
  • Unless you want to catch a terminal disease, keep well away from the Anchor - you can smell the urine and dog crap from outside the door. But the Bell can be quite a laugh - the karaoke is terrible!
  • Finns for the ancient. Hobgoblin for the goths. Litten tree for the horrible sloans, wannabees and fucking dickhead kevs and the firkin for the underage.
  • Paper mill Falcon
  • The Falcon is still packed most nights, even thought the management think that cheap beer and a good atmosphere are mutually exclusive. Quite a few new places opening up, so maybe worth another visit in 6 months.
  • Firkin, Littentree and Hogshead! Avoid anywhere else!
  • the falcon no longer smells of sick!
  • The Belle View ,Every fortnight have a cool jam session where a live band plays old + new rock totally pukka.
  • Mainly dodgy, the litten tree can be ok. Avoid the cheap booze places, they are dives.
  • The Antelope still seems to be the best pub in town. That fake Irish boozer Finn whatever seems to get as many punch ups as it ever did when it was called the White Lion. The Gate is handy to play pool in. If indie kids are your scene try the Roundabout.
  • go to the antelope then to unit 3.
  • NAGS HEAD, as was. Now called THE PRIDE. Gay Pub Now. So....er.....go if youre gay i guess . . .
  • What can I say - The Hogshead.
  • Club Anchor one of the most rocking places in town on a Friday and Saturday night Disco with Karaoke, All age groups welcome (over 18 or course), and flourescent lighting and flourescent plastic drinking glasses all over. Not to be missed.
  • white horse
  • Rounabout - students Firkin - Crowded but OK apart from entrance fee Falcon - No smoking, no drinking, no talking, no running in the corridor. nice food. Antelope - Late liscence The Bell - who knows? The Pride - Backs against the wall - friendly Unit 3 Club . Open late .great tunes and DJs
  • Flint, Finn McCouls. Hobgoblin is not what it was before renovation. For pleasant afternoon drink, Antelope and Firkin both have nice gardens. For drunken weekend, anywhere other than Desborough.
  • Angel, Antelope, Flint. Do NOT go anywhere else. You'll be disappointed....and still a virgin!
  • A great place to go in High Wycombe is Fast Eddie's pub club. In the last few years it got refurbished and it is really nice now. It has about 12 tables and the decor is fantastic. It's open late every night. If you live or are staying in Wycombe you must check it out
  • the firkin is a great pub the drinks are a little steep but the atmosphere is amazing
  • The Firkin if you are under age or go to bucks college, otherwise the falcon which has carpet and cheaper drinks. Finn McCouls on a Friday has quite a rocking dance floor
  • Typical inner-city/town pubs. No obvious management and kids serving you who don't give a shit.
  • The Hobgoblin's full of Goths!
  • Finn's, up by the station, is a great Irish pub - they have a disco on Friday and Saturday nights, and the atmosphere is excellent. Young crowd.
  • The problem with Wycombe was that all the decent pubs used to be taken over by drug-dealers until they lost their licences, then they'd move somewhere else and so on. It got like a ghost town centre) in the late 80's early 90. Red Cross Knight,Roundabout, Falcon, Rose, Halfway House all shut down for a time because of this. Improved now but its got no character anymore.
  • The Hobgoblin has just (5/11/98) re-opened after refurbishment which saves the rest of the town from all the goths/metallers that have had nowhere decent to go for the last 8 weeks. It's on the High Street and has very friendly, if a little extravagantly turned-out staff.
  • The firkin is the best- trust me, just go in on a friday night and ask to speak to sharky!
  • The Roundabout in the "South Central" area of town is worth mentioning for the very fact that me, my girlfriend and lots of our mates at one time worked there. Sad place but they always made an effort to break the boredom. Also handy if you're 15 or under as the landlord seems unaware of the under-age laws.
  • The Sugar Loaves - beware of satan worshiping bikers, although have heard that it might be a bit better these days. Also the White Lion, good as is near Kebab van.
  • Pubs worthy of mention (apart from the White Horse and the Nags Head) are the Hobgoblin and the Antelope in the town centre (both very busy - lots of students), the Rose and Crown near the bus station (good selection of well-kept beers), the Bird in Hand (good restaurant pub), the Derehams Inn in Derehams Lane (good selection of beers but hard to find) and the Queen in Victoria Street (superb Christmas decorations and my local). The George and Dragon in West Wycombe.
  • The Hogshead is a decent pub, nice and friendly barstaff.
  • Firmament and Firkin, Tuesday nights is comedy night
  • The Nags Head was always a top spot and should not be missed. For good food and atmosphere, simple, don't stay in Wycombe.
  • Swan , West wycombe road
