Hi Patricia,
I too was born at the convent in April 1952. My birth mother's name was Bridget Dyer. My adoption was arranged by a local Authority, not the Catholic Childrens Society and I have yet to find her. Good luck in your search.

Hi Patricia my brother was born on Jan 25 1951 at 34 West Hill how did you find out that local authority had organised the adoption having problems getting this info
- Re: highgate convent
by marylin fallon (Member 10240765) on 25-Sep-2009
Hi Margaret, I am also interested in the local authority adoptions from St Pelagias. My mother in law was in this home around 1949-1951, and gave birth to a son she named Anthony Murphy. We have tried contacting the Catholic children's society, but they can find no trace of him. His name was probably changed on adoption.
There is more information, and more people trying to trace relatives from this home, on the Camden knowhere message board 121 to 140. Good luck with your search. ... more >>

I am still trying to find info on my brothers adoption I think if we could find the adoption agency who dealt with their adotions we would be half way there. Catholic Childrens society are saying they did not deal with the adoption so if you gather any extra info or if i do would be glad to share this with you

I was at the Convent in 1963, and gave birth to a daughter, she went up for adoption, but then I fought to get her back, all I can remember is the adoption agency was in Ladbroke Grove, as a friend, another girl from the convent came with me when the day came for me to take my daughter to the adoption society. We had to get a black cab, it is all so very horrible the way we girl's were treated by the nun's.
