• I would like to see The Brittannia pub, if not flattened, refurbished into a lovely classy bar or something. Its one of the original buildings on Houghton main street (Newbottle Street) as you first come in and its in such a sorry state of disrepair I'm suprised its still occupied! It looks horrible and something needs to be done. Actually, the Buffs Club could be knocked down, thats horrible and if you're coming into Houghton from Sunderland, its one of th first things you see! Someone knock it down and build us a cinema or a shopping centre or something please!

Im sorry Miss Hyland but your dream of reconstructing the building and brain washing the "children" to no longer be charvers but fair followers of society is not going to happen so i would get out while you can before it all crumbles infront of your very eyes.

• MAUTLAND SQUARE... either that or get it covered over with a glass roof or something. This is a cold, windy and forlorn spot in complete contrast to the nearby busy Newbottle Street shops.
