| Houghton le spring books

by Valerie (Member 10229067) on 13-Jul-2008

I am looking for the following two books that are now out of print and wondered if anyone in Houghton le spring had copies that they would like to sell me. My mother in law was evacuated to Houghton le spring in the second world war and recently revisited the town, but said it had changed so much and would like these books to remind her of what it was like. Thank you.

Can anyone please help
Im trying to find out information on my great great great great grandmother, i believe her name was Susannah Lambton,in june 1809 she had an illigitimate son whom she named George Lambton. On Georges Baptism cert it states that Susannah was a native of painshaw/penshaw in the parish of Hougten le spring.
If anyone can shed any light on my Susannah i would dearly love to know whom her family were.

Hi there I am not sure if this is of any help but I have an old Memorial Birthday text book which belonged to my grandmother which goes back to 1801. In there there is a George Lambton from Penshaw who married in 1830 in Penshaw a May E Baines from Dumley End. They married 13th April, but I dont have a date. I have an Ernest Lambton and the year 1872 written in the book, and a May Alice Lambton 21st June 1887.
Not sure if any of these are from your family. I know Penshaw was a very small village so everyone knew each other.
Best of luck in your search.

I went to Houghton Grammar from 1970 to 1975. It would be nice to hear from others who were at the school starting 1970 until 1975 or even 1976/7 if they were staying on for 6th form. I didn't as I left at Easter 1975 to join the Royal Navy.

Does anyone know whereabouts of a Linda Coates. Knew her around 1974 when I was 15. Linda attended Houghton Secondary Modern School until about 1976/7. She lived at Easington Lane.
Just wondering what she is doing these days.

Houghton was good in the old days. Lots of places have gone now. The Brit used to be a good pub for a decent pint. handy for the bookies Ladbrokes that used to be opposite.
I left Houghton in 75 to join the Royal Navy but used to come back on leave now and again. Came back in 84 to 86 and it had not changed that much. But it has changed completely now.
Living in Hetton now and that has changed completely. The decent pubs have all changed, and the ones in the town centre seem to be full of townies.
Even Houghton feast has changed, it's a rip off now. ... more >>

- HAPPY WEEKEND: (gracekama3@myway.com)

HAPPY WEEKEND: (gracekama3@myway.com)
Hello my dear,
Nice to meet you, I am Mrs. Grace Kama from Sierra-Leone. I got attracted after glancing through your short profile, I deemed it necessary to disclose this important issue to you. I lost my husband during the rebel attacked in 2003 before his death, he had an account with a bank here in Cote d’Ivoire, where he made a deposit of US$10.5 Millions Dollars. This money was for the purchase of cocoa procession machines and development of another factory, unfortunately he did not meet his target before his untimely death.
Why I contacted you, due to the agreement he had with the bank during deposit, I’ve been denied total access to the money, the bank Manager told me precisely that the money was deposited in a suspense fixed account with a clause attached to it for onward transfer into a foreign account. That the bank will follow the agreement written and signed by both (the bank and my husband). I was advised to look for a foreign account where the money can be transferred before I can have access to it.
Since security here cannot be guaranteed besides, I’ve lost my husband, I hereby ask you to do me a favour by standing as my late husband’s foreign business partner and the beneficiary of the money to enable the bank effect the transfer into your account.
I have plans to invest this money in continuation with the investment vision of my late husband, but not in this place again rather in your country. I have the vision of going into real estate and industrial production, please if you are willing to assist me and my only son Ken, indicate your interest in replying soonest.
The bank has given me requirements I should forward to them:
1. Your full name, contact postal address
2. Your phone and fax numbers.
3. Occupation
If you agree on this, I’ll give you 15% of the total share when transferred, then 5% will be given to you if you made any expense on the cause of the transfer. Waiting to hearing from you, please once I hear from you I'll send you my pictures, also the deposit certificate the bank gave to my late husband.
Thanks for your anticipated co-operation, Call me: +22507057738. REPLY HERE: (gracekama3@myway.com)
Yours,
Mrs. Grace Kama ... more >>
