- On Wood Street again, just opposite Coffee Evolution on Huddersfield's "bohemian corner", is Vox. Nice, if pricey and very strong, European lager and a happy, laid back atmosphere.
- The Grey Horse @ Birchencliffe. Good crowd, no trouble, brilliant mad staff, top class Real Ale and an excellent homecooked food menu at reasonable prices
- Zetland & West Riding
- Spotted cow salendine nook, execellent bar staff guarenteed to make you laugh no matter how down you are.
- dont drink m8
- beppy's off licence birkby for booze and the d-lo
- Rat and parrot is now Livingstones! Not bad, open till late, drinks promos! cheesy dance down stairs with a new R'N'B room on the messazine level - can get sweaty!!
- Can't recommend the Old Courthouse for lunch in Huddersfield. Service never improves. Current promotion has all beer and food less than £2. That's fine in principle but the kitchen can't cope. A 55-minute wait before I took a refund and went to O'Neill's. Waited only six minutes for a lovely sausage and onion baguette.
- The old hatte
- Always the Olde Hatte, it has the greatest Jukebox ever, Rebel Songs, Reggae and Punk...
- sharkeys, courthouse, rock cafe, zephyr, lloyds, revolution, boy & barrell, varsity, foyer, o'neills, blob shop. all reasonable. for rediculously cheapness go to the college arms, tho its shit. you can however get a dirty cinzano & lemonade for 85p.
- The Rock Café on Ramsden Street it's one of Huddersfield’s most popular night spots in the evening and it's also open during the day. The food is gorg but the cocktails are better.
- the wellington. town center. ( a young crowd ? I think . yes )
- too many to mention
favorites are head of steam, weatherspoons, sharkys(triples for singles), chicago (2 for one)
- blob shop packed after 1030 on sat, opan till 12 aswell as college arms, o'niells, varsity, sharkeys quality 3 for 1 cocktails.revolution mean strength vodkas.2 4 1 drinks in chicagos bargain.COUNTY cheapest and probabley smallest in town centre.courthouse not bad either
- head of steam - nice comfy sofas - get boozed than have a snooze
- The Vulcan has a clientele of irish navvies, builders on the Kingsgate and Postmen therefore it's rough but charming conversation. The Crown is full of drug dealers and everywhere else is full of arsey southern students getting pissed on shots and shouting in their annoying whiney accents.
- Pubs full of louts
- Sharkeys and Rock Cafe are excellent for Cocktails!! Definately go there before clubbing, last time I did it I don't remembered much of the night, well worth it!
- marsdens got a pub called old new in the djs a nutter ,knows everything about everyone ,& is the only dj i know thats barred from the rest of the village cos he attracts a huge crowd !! check out his happy hardcore music!!he is a total nutter !!!
- Sharkeys - just great for cocktails and shooters
- For cask conditioned ("real") ale, The Rat And Ratchet (try saying it when you've had a few! Then you'll get the joke) on Chapel Hill. Landlady from hell is still there but her hubby's a nice guy. Slubbers Arms, Halifax Old Road, Fartown. Further out, try the two brew pubs - The Sair, Slaithwaite (get on a bus and ask any local) and The Riverhead Brewery Tap, Marsden (6 miles from Town Centre, regular bus service.)
- Don't go to pubs like the Woolpack at Lockwood - it is rough as f**k. The Saddle on Lindley can also get a bit tasty, especially on a Sunday evening when the locals are beered up.
- THE WAREHOUSE wen its finally open!! it opens in DECEMBER 1st!!!
- blob shop...some nice ladies in there
- Flares - 70's music (but not strictly) - hilarious sights to behold. Wish the DJ would SHUT THE FUCK UP and get on with playing his tunes as you can't understand anything he says anyway.
- Loads of pubs for everyone. Well if you're into walking round in gangs of lads or girls that is. Pastel coloured shirts are the order of the day and also black shoes with silver buckles are a must in Huddersfield. Which ever route you take round the town you will end up in the "Firkin" as it's the only place open late. The "Varsity" is the best place but is ruined by locals on their "only" night out of the week, trying so hard to pull that bint Mary they have been plucking up courage to speak to for weeks. She is on a night out with the girls though and will tell him to talk to her later in the "Firkin". The "Firkin" is quite a place! Full of pissed up locals dancing on tables looking stupid. Quality!
- Spinks nest in birkby, Courthouse, The head of steam, Abrahams, O Neils,
- For good bands on a Friday/Saturday check the Yorkshire Victoria, the Lockwood and O'Neils (sometimes). Also the Angel at Paddock on a Thursday.
- Tip: Go to the Vulcan (between the sport's centre and the parish church) before 1200 weekdays, and you get free soup & roll if you buy a main course. As this'll only cost you about £3.50 and you'll get enough food to feed Chris Moyles on an eating binge, this is a bargain. The pub's a bit dodgy at night though.
Try the Head of Steam for a bit of a different pub - it has a railway theme, but actually manages to be trendy too!
For real ale, I agree that the Rat & Ratchet is simply the choice. Try Timothy Taylor's Landlord Bitter for a nice session drinking pint.
- Whatever brainless twat wrote they should knock down the old cinema? It turned
out to be a beautiful building, formerely the riding school/the Armoury/the
Tudor Cinema - but now the Rat and Parrot. Keeps University staff and students
sane. I don't like theme pubs - but its better than most
- loads and loads of pubs and clubs
- Parish Pump
- Bar Non - St George's Square : Trendy, pretencious, expensive but FULL and I mean FULL of superb looking women. The "Strip" - all the pubs opposite the University: Yates, College Arms, The Thirsty Scholar, O'Neills, Old Court Brewhouse (all of them superb...) Union Bank - fairly good but can be busy... Pen & Cob, MInstrel, White Horse, Unicorn: DO NOT GO IN THESE PUBS - the chant "you're going home in a yorkshire ambulance" will apply if you do.
- The Royal Swan Mon - Thur selected bottles £1
- Bar Non and the Head of Steam beside the station are open till midnight most nights of the wek
- For good beer (Timothy Taylors) and a collection of oddball characters, try the Slubbers Arms on Bradford Road
- The Rat & Ratchett is worth a visit. Excellent selection of beers, great juke-box, and good atmosphere. Beware, however, of the landlady[10/96], a bad-hearted bitch with an attitude problem. No, she hasn't ever kicked me out, but I have witnessed several being dispatched ceremoniously exitwards for no good reason. O'Neill's is up to the usual standard. The Old Hatte is a favourite Crap Pub. Everybody scowls at you, but nobody seems to bite.
