Pubs in Ilford, Essex*

The place to go for a lazy afternoon, pub quiz or last call

You can tell us more about Ilford.

Pubs
  • o'neil irish pub opposite bodgers shop and there are some others on cranbrook road including yates wine bar which is a cool place to chill out with some mates.
  • does anyone remember "Stop Outs" opp the ilford police station? There were some good times to be had....when you was drunk enough to forget you were there! Lloyds NO.1 bar is the place in Ilford good food and cheap priced drink with a good range and the staff can be friendly too. ************************
  • Yates is now called Que Pasa (or something similar). Its now full of leopard and zebra print, and looks like a tarts boudoir. The Valentine has closed for refurbishment - 'bout time too, the toilets were a health hazard! Lloyds - used to be the rat and carrot, then bla bla', now turned into a wetherspoons with music. Supposed to be ok.
  • The Green Castle (used to be blah blah's), just around from ilford station has moderately priced drinks, 3 pool tables, shows sports and/or music television (with a large range of tunes)and has in my opinion the best staff and patrons of any pub anywhere ever, usually quiet on week nights and not packed on weekends (cos no-one can find it. If you want a quiet pint or a good laugh this is the place to go.
  • The Valentine just rules. Have been going there since I was a lot younger (am only 24 now!!), late nights Fri and Sat and Karaoke on a Wed make for a good time to be had by all!!
  • The White Horse in Chadwell Heath. Nice & friendly proper boozer with a really nice garden.
  • Ahh, the Cauliflower in Seven Kings! Massive Victorian gin palace with original features. Has live music on Saturday nights. Also a nice quiet pub at lunchtimes. A must.
  • O'Neills on the High Road near Ilford Station is reasonable, and has the odd band in, but it's often too hot, too loud and too packed. The Hogshead on Cranbrook Road has a nice selection of beers and no music - perfect for when you just want to park yourself in a corner and talk.
  • The Overdraft (previously the Island) attracts a "fresh faced" crowd on a Friday night for those who "decide" not to go to the Venue...
  • If you want pool tables try the red cow, round the back of the shopping centre
  • Well apart from the bowl around the back of ilford nr the subway from the high road. you should also check outthe banks in the old gas works place by the romford rd. But youll have to keep on your toes from the security guards.
  • The Rose and Crown when Jim was in charge.
  • The Great Spoon of Ilford; This pub offers the cheapest beer in Ilford, being one of the J.D.Wetherspoon chain. It attracts a varied crowd, ranging older locals lunchtimes (there for the cheap beer) to the pre-club crowd on weekend evenings. Seems to be a meeting point with groups of people staying for a couple of pints before moving on. The Rose & Crown; A traditional type locals pub. Can be a bit male dominated (I was there one saturday evening and there was only two women in the whole pub!).It does however have a freindliest atmosphere & does the best beer in Ilford (for real ale fans). Decent jukebox (for my age group, ie lots of Clash but less house music!!).
  • Cheapest: Old Fairlop Oak (Witherspoons), Quietest: Doctor Johnson, Busiest: Ye Olde Investigator (previously the Checkers), Most OAPs: The Unicorn, Best for watching Footie: Y.O. Investigator
  • Cranbrook Road now has a number of pubs that are well worth a mention. These include:- The Great Spoon, The Hogs Head (great for getting a seat, but most expensive pub in Ilford), Jono's Irish bar (is just down from the station) always packed. Just off Cranbrook Road, facing Bodgers is O'Neils which is open till 1am, but charge £2 to get in after 11pm. There is usually some sort of band or act playing Irish songs in O'Neills on Friday and Saturday Nights.
  • My cousin once got beat up in the Hope near Pioneer Market. I used to chip down to the Napier in Goodmayes, then it was the Rat and Carrot, now I live in Leeds
  • The Rose & Crown on Ilford Hill for a decent pint and cool atmosphere - true english pub for both young and old alike
