Pubs in Ingatestone, Essex*

The place to go for a lazy afternoon, pub quiz or last call

You can tell us more about Ingatestone.

Pubs
  • The Crown probably the best, but The Star has a character all of its own. What on earth they are going to do when the smoking ban comes in, god only knows.
  • Stocks is pretty cool compared to the rest of the pubs. The Star is for sleepy old men, The Bell is rubbish and The Crown is for 'less mature' people...
  • The Crown
  • Yep, about three I think
  • The star in the high street. The 'pub that time forgot'. If you want a welcoming local pub that's the size of someone's living room then this is the one. Full of charismatic locals, blessed with an open fire, hats hanging from the ceiling and the barrels behind the bar. The 'organ man' used to make regular visits with his hammond and 'wind up' drum machine although apparently he now plays guitar (God help us). The Crown in the high street - Quite dark and cosy. Can be a bit crowded, has a pool table and friendly landlord/lady. Another open fire, younger audience. The Anchor in the high street - Haven't been there for a while always used to be a bit naff. The Bell - Pool table, quite big, not bad at all. The Woolpack Fryerning lane. Nice food, very cosy, more your traditional country pub - good value pub grub. The Cricketers Mill Green (Up Fryerning lane turn right). Used to have the distinction of no music and an odd clientele made up of Mr & Mrs posh as well as more down to earth people. Has since all but converted into a restaraunt. Good food, but also very pricey. More upmarket than ever. The Viper - Mill Green near the woods (towards highwood from the cricks). People still park their horses here and fags and chocolate can be bough very reasonably behind the bar. There is a slight element of 'the piano player stopping' when you walk in of an evening, but it's great in the summer and has a lovely beer garden.
