The Best Things in Ipswich, Suffolk*

If you're around, be sure to check these things out

You can tell us more about Ipswich.

The Best Things
  • That I no longer have to live in the rotten place.
  • St.Pancras Catholic church
  • Bar Fontayne - where we used to chat people on other tables with the provided telephones and the occasional dance up on the bar. The Board Walk. The student sweaty dance club near the harbour, can't remember the name. The Swan pub where the only tips were a few coppers found on the floor after closing time. Don Gerardo's non-Italian staff who all left together one day and opened their own restaurant in town.
  • No italian bitch's
  • The road out.
  • The road out.
  • Nothing.
  • the RAILWAY pub on FOXHALL rd
  • skateboarding spots
  • Going to a home game on Saturday then two pints in the Black Horse afterwards, then refreshing your way up Woodbridge Road, drinking a pint in every pub until you reach the Lattice Barn. You then either head towards Heath Road hospital, or go home, very happy.
  • People are friendly. Lots of shops. Compact. Nice football ground.
  • The Wolsey Theatre - so much more stylish and friendly than the Ipswich Regent. AND has more comfortable seats!
  • FLIPSWITCH
  • You can leave. Get out while you can.
  • in life come to those who wait.
  • The people, the places and the way you can alk in a straight line pretty uch from one end of the town center to the other, i love Ipswich and am deff comming back to live there when ive finished Uni.
  • Hippy Hill in the summer, Christchurch Park in general. Ipswich's chilled approach of nightife (indie nights galore). The fact we have two wetherspoons. Barts burgers late at night......the fact that shitquid is kept out of the town centre....i'm sure there's more.
  • If you walk past willis caroon near the tax office there is a load of dumped depleated urainium shells, quality if you need a bit of a buzz after a quality night out in liquid with vibe fm.
  • Ipswich is small enough that you can go out and pretty much always see someone you know. Some might even call it 'inbred'. Vagabond's and I-scream are 2 of my favourite places and make Ipswich almost worth living in. Almost...
  • there seem to be alot of dope smoking 'greebo's' which is my scene :)
  • A town full of multi-cultures and peole of all different types of backgrounds. the new wave of asylum seekers are starting to ruin that nice mix of different cultures we had.
  • Tescos at Copdock is a popular night spot post 10 O'clock. The car park is like a giant playground (complete with security guards)for the over 18's. Seriously though, Ipswich does have many beautiful parks which are fun in the summer. My mum says the town centre has improved a lot over the years. It is also quite close to some ok places that aren't Ipswich_like London, Norwich and a variety of sea side type places.Ooh, and the museum is...... FREE.Very few murders compared to The Bronx.
  • er! ........ Um! ....... No can't think of anything
  • IPSWICH HIGH SCHOOL!!! i'm in the sixth form there, and we rock. we're not posh, despite the reputation, and know how to have a good time!!!
  • IP1 Magazine. The only intellegent/entertaining reading material ever to exist in Ipswich.
  • Ipswich has the best fireworks store in the country (World Of Fireworks) and its open all year.
  • The parks. There are lots of them. The biggest is Chantry, followed by Christchurch and Hollywells. In Holywells if you walk around the edge of it, it is just like being in the countryside for a hour or so. (Pplleeaassee keep it wild!) There are also many others of smaller sizes. Public libraries. Theres a really good big one in the town centre, and lots of branch libraries so that everywhere within town is within walking distance of one. The river through the town. Not enough is made of it. How about creating a river park?
  • The young women, Mmmm
  • Definately the parks, when the weather is nice that is!
  • the parks ,the docks , the river, the kids.
  • Ipswich was a very good little market town when I was a kid over 55 years ago but it has been ruined by an ambitious council determined to turn it into a city and outsiders trying to call the football team tractor boys. It is not a city and now it is not a little market town either because of loony toons trying to mould into something they think it should be ie a city which would enhance their social position.
  • The vast countryside helping us to breathe through the Ipswich smog.
  • The Attic
  • It's taken ten years, but I finally like Ipswich. If you want it you can find it, where else can you find a community Samba Band ? if nothing else, music in the park makes it all worth it. The first sunday in July all the world is in Christchurch park, and they are are all tapping their feet.
  • Everything is nearby - not a lot of walking necessary from pub to pub/club etc
  • The Merman at Orford Castle.
  • The parks - nuff said! The fact that you can get out into the countryside within minutes from the town centre.
  • IPSWICH COMMUNITY RADIO (on twice a year for a month at a time),open access anarchy on the legal airwaves; ITFC, Red Flag 77, Hippy Hill,Flex Fm (pirate radio),
  • Ipswich Town FC, and they try your patience. Nightlife is beginning to improve but there's too high a proportion of chain pubs.
  • Not many other English towns let you ogle big birds like Ollie, Tilly, Twiggy and co. They're bloody big Ostriches at the Victoria Garden Centre near Christchurch Park.
The ostriches have now [summer 96] gone from the Victoria Garden Centre but the newer acquisitions are a better source of amusement anyway. Now, there are rheas (ostriches), marras, very greedy goats, wallabies and Rasher and Sasha the Vietnamese pot-bellied pigs. Top place but rumour has it that it isn't to be with us for much longer.
  • Wolsey Art Gallery
  • Medieval architecture. Check out especially the "Ancient House" in the Butter Market, with its superb pargetting (sculpted plasterwork).
  • The Malt Kiln, Wherry Quay. Excellent pub for young people, best in the school/uni holidays when underage drinking is at its peak.
  • Best band: the Cinnamon Years, pop/folk. "mr. smith", 7 track demo, available from James Taylor, 13 Willoughby Road (basement flat).
  • The best thing is the atmosphere. Everyone is just out to have fun.
  • I can't think of anything GOOD about Ipswich but Christchurch Park isn't bad...
  • About Anglia ITV at 6 p.m one of the true modern wonders of the world. Is it possible to be more local than a local news programme????
  • Rebecca Jones on About Anglia. Say no more.
  • The link roads to get you outta here are good...
  • The YWCA - best place for new and temporary residents to stay and meet people. (Boys and girls welcome, book weeks/months in advance.)
  • The East Anglian Daily Times is produced there - one of the best local daily papers in the country - and that's about all I think
  • Dhaka
  • Having moved south to Bognor Regis, I have to say Ipswich seems a heck of a lot more fun with better facilities, public transport and road links than it did when I lived there!
